Chapter 11 his past
Amelia’s P.O.V. (Continued)
“I don’t know why he confronted you, but you don’t need to explain your past to anyone from now on. I don’t care if we get the approval or not. I will not let them cause pain to my people.” Marcus comforted me, pain and determination evident in his voice.
Marcus was the youngest son of a beta family. He was more suitable for taking over the beta position from his father than his two elder brothers. They schemed against him and accused Marcus of trying to kill the youngest alpha son.
Marcus ran away from his pack to save his life eight years ago. For the next two years, he constantly ran from them and lived in ruins, pits, and gutters to save his life, as they were constantly hunting him.
“I am okay, Marcus. I am not that fragile now.” I comforted him after some time.
“Do you really think that I will believe you?” he asked me, anger evident in his voice.
I slowly moved my face towards him. I grinned, showing him the full set of my teeth.
He bumped his forehead on mine, making me hiss in pain.
“Serves you better.” He muttered and slowly moved away.
“You got the message from the king.” Sylvia remarked and I immediately looked at her.
She was now reading the message. My heart skipped a beat. I don’t know why a ray of hope ignited in my heart. I waited anxiously for her to tell us what that message was.
“He agreed!” she exclaimed excitedly, and a wide smile spread on my lips.
“That’s great.” Marcus also chimed happily.
“B…. but it’s day after tomorrow. How are you supposed to prepare everything in two days?” she remarked worriedly.
“I am almost done, Sylvia. It’s not an issue.” I assured her confidently.
To be honest, I really had no hope that the king would give us this opportunity. His hatred towards the rogues is world-known. His mother was brutally killed by the rogues when he was only 10.
They said that he witnessed their cruelty and shifted for the first time at that time, killing those rogues after that, but it was already too late to save his mother.
“Now, you two…. Go now, and let me finish my work. I need to rest after that.” I instructed both of them, intending to finish the proposal that I wanted to put in front of the king.
“No…. you are not working.”
Marcus stopped abruptly when his phone started ringing.
I stiffened because it wasn’t his work phone. He had two numbers, and one was specifically for our assassination work.
He picked up the call and I stood up. “Night Raven. I am Beta Duke for the Black Ray Pack. We spotted ten rogues outside our territory on the west side. Sharing the access with you.”
I immediately looked at Sylvia, who immediately approached the laptop on the other side of the table.
Marcus sat down and took another laptop from my drawer.
“Is there any activity from their side?” Marcus asked him in a serious tone.
“They destroyed two cameras installed outside the pack border. We have blocked the road but lost surveillance. Station guards are ready to attack at any time, and it seems that they have explosives with them.” Beta Duke replied, sounding troubled.
We had contracts with a few packs in this region to whom we provided security services if rogues from other groups appeared around their packs.
The Black Ray Pack was one of them. It was about a twenty-minute drive away from where we were.
Alexander’s P.O.V.
“I can’t believe that they have been developing themselves right under our noses and we didn’t get a whiff of that.” Hunter grumbled, troubled and shocked.
I went through the report stating whatever knowledge and information Hunter could find on them.
“Marcus Smith, or better to say, Vincent Hampton from The Light Shadow Pack.” He continued while I read about him.
“He was charged for the attempted murder of the youngest alpha son eight years ago, but he succeeded in escaping. The strangest part is that he was the most eligible beta son to take over the beta position from his father. He was only seventeen, Alexander. He knew how promising his future was. Why would he do something like that to ruin his life?” His question was rational according to the situation.
“What reason did they find for his crime?” I asked him calmly. I was reading about how he formed that rogue pack.
“This is the most suspicious part here. That alpha son was only ten years old, and Marcus was training him when he got injured, and they accused him of attempting murder.”
I raised my brow and looked at him. After meeting Marcus and Amelia, I asked Hunter to do a thorough investigation on Marcus because he looked familiar. Hunter dug up everything that he could about Marcus, and the truth was shocking.
“And you know what, it was his eldest brother who gave the testimony against him.” He added and I got the full picture of what happened to Marcus back then.
“So, she was right.” I mumbled bitterly. She said that her pack had people from everywhere who were wronged and abused by their packs before they were banished.
After going through the betrayal of his own family, I am sure that Marcus sheltered people like him only.
“I succeeded in getting information about ten people from their group and each of them was banished from their packs under suspicious circumstances. Alpha Gabe told us the truth.” He continued adding more things.
“Why don’t we have any information on Amelia? You said that she is now working as the co-CEO of their company with Marcus and also, she is the CEO of their security company and the top assassin. But there is nothing about her past.” I asked and he looked at me with a troubled look.
“Amelia’s last name is Marcus’ mate’s last name—Locke. I tried to find anyone named Amelia in our database but found nothing about this Amelia. We don’t have any information about a banished or missing pack member named after her. She must have changed her name too, like Marcus,” He replied to me and my jaw hardened.
Her words were still ringing in my ears like a broken record when she told me what happened to her before she became rogue. I couldn't even imagine how she succeeded in staying alive after going through so much. The wolfsbane not only killed her wolf, but also erased her scent. How horrible and painful it would be for her to face everyone's questioning gaze every day.
Her words were like long and pointed needles jabbed into my heart. She looked young and should be in her early twenties, and she was only eighteen when she went through so much pain.
It happened to her under my reign. Indirectly, I was also responsible for what happened to her.
“The Light Ray Pack… they are under attack.” Hunter told me and immediately took his laptop from the desk.
