19. Eyes of a Shifted Wolf
The guy starts to laugh, his broken nose giving it an odd nasally sound. I chance to look up at them to see the bloody mess I had made of the guy and the Alpha leering down at him.
“Funny that you say it’s your land…tell me Alpha, just how did you acquire something that was never even in your jurisdiction? Night Stone doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to-”
Suddenly Alpha Spencer slams a fist into the guy’s jaw making a very loud crack sound echoing in the silent night. The rogue slumps down completely out cold now. The man stands up and faces the other rogues as they hold themselves back, some looked far worse than their leader did. I look over to Benji just to see him staring with worried eyes in the other direction.
Looking to where he was staring, I see Shane hunched over a naked Derek, staring right at his father with a look that I could only describe as uncomfortable, yet slightly displeased. It only made me wonder what their relationship was like.
Derek still wasn’t moving, and I was beginning to freak out just a little at all the blood that was coming from his body. A slight shaking of my arm caught my attention back to a trembling Benji and the tears were gathered at his eyes that never looked away from them.
“Shane.”
His voice was angry and cold. But Shane didn’t back down from the man as he continues to stare up at him with an impassive face.
The older man sighs heavily, looking all around us. His eyes momentarily stop on Benji and I, then he sighs again. “Get him some clothes.” He barks at one of the wolves, who quickly disappears into the woods.
A long, silent, tense moment later a man walks out with a bag. Coming up to Benji he tosses the bag to him and backs away. While he quickly dresses, Alpha Spencer bent down to examine Derek.
“He’s alive at least. Get him to the medical ward immediately. The rest of you patrol the borders for any more of these filth.” He demands.
“What do you want to do about these guys?” The one who had given Benji the clothes, asks.
The man doesn’t even hesitate as he says, “Kill them.”
I flinch at the coldness of his tone. Shane quickly stands up, facing his father. “They should be locked up and trailed! You can’t just go around killing people!”
It was so quick; I barely saw it. Alpha Spencer had his son’s neck in the grip of his hand, squeezing so hard his face was beginning to become red.
A surge of protectiveness overcame me in such a rush that I really didn’t have time to think. I ran to them as I cried out in a mixture of disbelief, anger, and fear, ignoring Benji’s hands as he tried to grab me. Honestly, I have no idea where the emotions were coming from.
All I knew was that I had to protect Shane. No, I needed to protect him.
“You dare to question my decisions boy?! I’ll throw you in the ken-” His words were cut off as I pushed him away from Shane.
On instinct, I threw my arms out in front of him, facing Alpha Spencer head on. My body was shaking, but I held my ground. I could hear the small gasps that Shane was making as he fell to his knees trying to get air back into his lungs.
The man righted himself before he almost completely fell to the ground. His glare was one of pure disbelief at what I have done. His face then turned red from his growing anger. He stomps towards me, getting right into my face.
“What the hell do you think you are doing, omega?” His voice was low, dark, even ruthless.
My entire being wanted to back down from his dangerous aura. A few moments passed by as he stares at me, and I wasn’t sure what he was thinking. The only thing that kept popping in my mind was to keep Shane safe no matter what.
I didn’t notice it and I wished I had, because his look changes with suspicion and questioning eyes.
“D-Dad…s-stop it…you’re going to kill everyone.”
The sound of Shane’s voice brought my attention to my surroundings. My eyes widened in fear as every single person here was withering on the ground, some even whimpering. Benji has closed in on himself, his arms wrapped tightly around him as he panted with difficulty.
Turning slightly around I see even Shane on his knees, breathing with heavy breaths as he gives his dad a death glare, his teeth clenching. Swinging my gaze back to Alpha Spencer, I realized that he was using his alpha aura to its full power.
And the fact I wasn’t affected at all made his eyes turn dangerously into his wolf’s eyes. They were so piercing I was afraid to move a muscle. I didn’t know how to react or what I should do now. I was basically crying out my own true status.
Only other Alpha’s are unaffected by another’s Alpha’s aura. All except the king’s.
Not only that, but I was basically challenging him as well by not submitting. I should have known better. I should have never let my guard down or let my emotions get the best of me.
“Tell your wolf to back down now.” His voice rumbled with a deep growl.
Wait, what? My wolf? How did he know about her? What did he mean? Why would he demand about her and not me? I didn’t…
I slowly look down next to me to see her crouched low, her eyes sharp on him, her canines bared to their full length, her growl just as vicious as his stare was. The back of her hair on her neck stands on end, telling me she was in full attack mode.
“Change back to your human eyes or I will make you regret your disobedience.”
I snap my eyes back to him. Wait a minute. He couldn’t see her after all? Then it was…my eyes? Oh. I understand now. My wolf was showing her dominance through my eyes. Which meant one thing.
I had the eyes of a shifted wolf, without the shifting, which only those with Alpha blood could do.
How the hell was I going to explain and get out of this mess?
