Chapter 80 LIVE YOUR LIFE
Edeline
Outside, the moon had finally risen above the treetops, casting a soft glow that filtered through the leaves, which fluttered and danced in the gentle breeze. Autumn was approaching, its presence evident in the crisp air and falling leaves. The moonlight illuminated my room with a calming, ethereal glow. I stared up at the moon, wishing for healing, hoping for strength. I needed to develop a stronger will. I pleaded silently for a solution, for a way to address all the mistakes and find a path through this painful situation.
There was a soft knock on my bedroom door, barely audible over the quiet of the night.
The familiar scent signaled that it was Mirabelle. I had mixed feelings about her presence, but she was my closest friend.
“Come in, Mirabelle…” I called out, my voice hoarse from tears and exhaustion.
She hesitated for a moment before opening the door, her cautious footsteps making a soft patter against the hardwood floor. The room was dimly lit by the moonlight filtering through the window, and I turned to face her, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Hey,” she said gently, her voice a soothing balm to my frayed nerves. She walked in, her heels clicking softly as she closed the door behind her.
I took a deep breath, letting the soft, sweet scent in the room fill my senses. Calmly, I reached over to the vanity and flicked on the lamp. The room was bathed in a gentle glow, and Mirabelle and the others exchanged glances. Mirabelle looked stunning in her short black mini dress and matching peeptoe heels. Her hair was elegantly curled, falling in graceful waves down her back. She was, without a doubt, a vision of beauty.
I, on the other hand, was a mess. I wore a long t-shirt, and my hair was thrown up in a haphazard bun. I hadn't given my appearance a second thought. My mind was tangled up in a whirlwind of emotions. I wasn’t just numb—I was still struggling to come to terms with everything that had happened.
“Edeline, I understand how distressed you must be,” Mirabelle said softly, her voice carrying a comforting tone. She was lounging on my bed, patting the spot beside her, inviting me to join her. I eased myself onto the bed, lying down next to her. “I’m not sure if you know Mirabelle,” I admitted, our eyes meeting—my grassy green ones locking with her bright green.
Her lips curved into a somber smile. “I can only imagine what you're feeling. But none of this is your fault. I saw everything that happened. I had just stepped away to call the oracle, and when I came back, there you two were. I’m always on your side, but I'll be honest: he went easy on you. Maybe you should hear his side of the story before you decide to give up on him completely. I mean, live your life, girl, but he’s your chosen mate. I don’t have a mate myself. If something happens to Tatiana and she leaves, and you’re already marked by someone else, you’ll still feel a connection with him, though not as strong. So, think it over. If you want it to be over, it can be. I just want you to consider it carefully.”
I frowned, frustration bubbling up. “Why should we wait to hear his side? What are you talking about, Mirabelle?”
She chuckled softly and shook her head. “That didn’t come out right. Edeline, I had a revelation tonight... Before and after everything went down. When I consulted the oracle for guidance and returned after your wolf left, I had a profound realization. When I get a vision out of the blue, the oracle speaks. I can help guide wolves towards the right choices. I strongly suggest you hear his side of the story before trusting anyone else, especially other males. Right now, Mirabelle is channeling her oracle persona, not her usual self.”
I stared at her, bewildered. “Are you talking about Darius? Is there some connection between what you said to him about choosing sides tonight?”
She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and exhaling forcefully before meeting my gaze. “When I embraced Darius, I felt a dark presence within him. The vision from the moon was hard to describe—more like an impression than clear images. But, Edeline, be cautious about trusting him too much. He cares deeply for you, and he might go to great lengths to keep your affection. He’s a loyal friend, no doubt. But there’s someone else who will have a significant influence on him. And it won’t be through their words. That’s all I saw.” She watched me closely, letting the weight of her words settle in.
“Mirabelle, Darius has been incredibly supportive,” I said, trying to steady my voice. “He genuinely believes I can do better than Percival and doesn’t want us to be together. Plus, he doesn’t really get the whole mate bond thing. But I trust that he’ll look out for me. Still, I know your visions are usually spot on, so I’ll definitely think about what you’ve said and stay alert. Though, honestly, his feelings for me aren’t as deep as you might think. He loves me like a best friend,” I explained.
Mirabelle chuckled wryly. “Oh, honey, that boy is completely smitten with you. It seems like everyone but you can see it.”
I was stunned. It seemed impossible that Darius could have feelings for me. We had always hoped we’d never end up together!
I sighed, giving in. “Alright, Mirabelle. I’ll take your word for it.”
Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she spoke. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Determined, I pushed aside my doubts and decided to keep an eye out for any signs. Mirabelle had a knack for understanding people, and her visions were usually accurate. If she thought Darius might cause trouble, I’d trust her judgment and stay vigilant. But that wouldn’t stop me from maintaining our friendship—I needed his support right now.
“Anyway,” Mirabelle continued, her tone shifting, “let’s change gears. Forget this solitary gathering and join me for a more lively event. You’re coming with me tonight, and there’s no saying no. You should probably get some tequila and mingle a bit. We’ll address your concerns quickly.” Her smile was playful, hinting at a challenge but lacking any real menace.
