Chapter 131: You Should Apologize

Chapter 132: Don't Come to the Company Anymore

I threatened, "You don't have to apologize, but you'd better think it through."

"Fine, I'll go right now!"

Natasha said as she walked out, and soon came back in, pulling Lucy by the hand.

She looked at me with a big smile, "Knox, look, I brought Lucy here to apologize right in front of you. You can't say I'm not sincere."

I looked up and saw Lucy standing there, her eyes red, looking upset and not moving at all.

Her stubborn look tugged at my heart.

But this wasn't the time to comfort her. Seeing my silence, Natasha tugged at my sleeve and said sweetly, "Knox, I brought her here. Please forgive me."

I said coldly, "I told you to apologize. Did you do it?"

"I'll apologize right now!"

Natasha said with a light laugh, turning to Lucy, "Lucy, I was wrong earlier. I shouldn't have made a scene. Please forgive me."

Lucy pressed her lips together and said, "I may not come from a background as high as Ms. Lockwood's, but I work here based on my own abilities. Ms. Lockwood, you can be suspicious all you want, but don't question my work abilities!"

After speaking, Lucy glanced at me and said softly, "Mr. Pemberton, I'll get back to work now."

She turned and left. Natasha, left standing there, pointed at her retreating figure and cursed angrily.

"Knox, look at her, so arrogant!"

"Talking about working on her own abilities—what abilities? I think she's just a bitch who seduces men!"

Seeing she still showed no remorse, anger flared up inside me.

"You should go. I need to work."

With that, I sat down and started working.

Seeing I was actually working, Natasha got bored, stood around for a bit, then left.

After she left, I let out a long breath and called Lucy in through the intercom.

"Mr. Pemberton."

After Lucy came in, she didn't come close to me like usual.

"Come here." I waved my hand, gesturing for her to come closer.

She didn't move an inch. "Mr. Pemberton, Ms. Lockwood could come back anytime. If she sees us together, who knows what kind of scene she'll make."

"Are you mad?"

I got up and pulled her to my side, sitting her on my lap. I playfully tapped her nose and said, "What's this, are you mad?"

Lucy said in a muffled voice, "I wouldn't dare be mad at Ms. Lockwood. She's your future wife. What am I?"

"So you are mad, but won't admit it?"

I leaned in and kissed her cheek. "Alright, don't be upset anymore."

"Didn't you like that diamond earring last time? I'll buy it for you."

"What's this, carrot and stick?" Lucy said, somewhat angry.

"Of course not."

I smiled and brought her hand to my lips for a kiss. "My relationship with Natasha is just a transaction. Don't worry, no matter what happens, you'll always have a place in my heart."

Seeing me like this, Lucy's expression softened a bit.

"Mr. Pemberton, are you really going to marry Natasha? I don't think she can help you at work at all."

I sighed, pretending to be troubled. "I have no choice. You know Helena came demanding payment with her people. Natasha promised to help me stall them, so I agreed to the engagement. Otherwise, I wouldn't give her a second look."

Seeing me looking so pitiful, Lucy's expression softened.

She wrapped her arms around my neck, saying with some sympathy, "Mr. Pemberton, you're betting your whole future happiness on this."

"I have no choice, so I'm asking you to take good care of me."

With that, I picked her up and rushed to the inner room, pressing her onto the bed.

In an instant, the room filled with giggles and heavy breathing.

Afterward, I comforted her thoroughly before Lucy was finally appeased.

By the time she left, it was already dark outside. I walked out of the inner room and saw over a dozen missed calls on my phone, all from Natasha.

I suppressed my irritation and called back.

Natasha's sickeningly sweet voice came through.

"Knox, why haven't you been answering your phone?"

I said impatiently, "I was in a meeting."

"If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."

"Wait!"

Natasha giggled on the other end. "Knox, I want to come keep you company tonight."

"No!"

My legs were still weak—how could I handle her?

"I'm busy tonight. We'll talk later."

"Okay then, I'll come see you tomorrow."

Seeing her pushing further, I said unhappily, "No need. Don't come to the company looking for me anymore. I've already told everyone. If you're not happy about it, we can call off the engagement."

"Knox, what do you mean? Are you serious?"

"Yes."

I irritably unbuttoned my shirt collar. Natasha was getting more and more out of hand. If I couldn't stop this now, I'd suffer later.

"You!"

She yelled angrily, "Knox, is this Lucy's idea?"

I said coldly, "Why bring others into this? I'm talking about your problem!"

"Fine, Knox, you're ruthless!"

Natasha hung up angrily.

Lucy had heard my conversation from behind. She came out timidly and said, "Mr. Pemberton, you didn't fight with Ms. Lockwood because of me, did you?"

I shook my head. "It has nothing to do with you. Go back to work."

I thought Natasha would call me back, unable to help herself, but after two days without hearing from her, I started to panic.

"Knox, the engagement party is the day after tomorrow. Are you ready?"

Xavier's voice came through the phone. To keep him from noticing anything unusual, I said, "I'm ready."
