Chapter 13 Panic
When Mira woke up, she didn't remember a thing about her conversation with Sebastian, but she knew deep in her heart that he had visited her but she couldn't remember much about what they had talked about.
She looked at Lena. “Have I fallen asleep for how many hours?” she asked.
“I think...you have slept for more than an hour, Luna,” Lena replied, removing the wilted flowers from the vase.
Mira left the bed and sat at the dresser table brushing her hair. Should she go to the garden and talk to Luna Rosie? But she was not in the mood to face that woman right now.
She stared at her reflection in the mirror, she could see two faces, Luna Rosie’s beautiful face and her own ugly face.
She shakes her head, sighing heavily. She will just stay in the room and wait for her husband to finish his meeting with his brothers.
The door opened and Luna Queen Rebecca entered the room.
Mira tensed. She had no idea how to call her. She glanced at Lena.
“Rosie, dear, how are you today?” Luna Rebecca asked.
Mira stood up and bowed her head in greetings. “I’m fine thank you, Mother. Please have a seat,” she replied cheerfully and lowered herself on the sofa.
Luna Rebecca sat beside her daughter-in-law and studied her face.
Mira felt uncomfortable under the Luna Queen’s scrutinizing gaze.
Luna Rebecca held Mira’s hand in hers. “Your memory is still not coming back in full yet?”
Mira nodded her head. Her eyes glistened in tears. “Yes, Mother. I’m sorry about this. But I try hard to remember everything little by little. Just that every time I try to remember everything at once I suffer from a painful headache. So remembering everything is a bit slow on my side. I hope you understand my situation,” she said dispiritedly, looking miserable.
Luna Rebecca patted her hands gently, consoling her. “Don’t be too hard on yourself, dear. It’s fine if your memory hasn't returned yet. The important thing for us is that you take care of yourself and your baby.”
“Thank you for your understanding, Mother. I appreciate it very much,” Mira said. A huge relief washed over her because her mother-in-law is kind and very considerate of her condition.
Luna Rebecca smiled. “If you need my help don’t hesitate to tell me, okay?”
Mira nodded her head. “Thank you, Mother.”
“Is Lena taking good care of you?” Luna Rebecca asked.
Mira smiled. “Yes, she is.”
“Good. I’m happy that you are recovering well.” Luna Rebecca was pleased with Rosie’s remarkable recovery from the deadly virus that ravaged the land. “I will not stay long because I have dinner to attend to tonight. I have to make some preparations.”
Mira smiled brightly. “Thank you, Mother, for the visit.”
“I will spend more time with you tomorrow,” Luna Rebecca said.
“I’m looking forward to it, Mother,” Mira replied cheerily.
“I’ll take my leave now. You take care of yourself and the baby.” Luna Rebecca stood up.
“Yes I will. Take care, Mother.” Mira walked her mother-in-law to the door.
After the Luna Queen left the room, Mira thought she could finally be alone. But the door opened again and came the two sisters of Alpha Gideon, Luna Rachel and Luna Raquel, paying her a visit.
Mira sighed inwardly. How to behave around these two women?
“Sis, how are you today?” Luna Rachel asked with a smile.
“I’m fine, thank you,” Mira replied cheerfully.
“You still remember our names? What is my name?” Luna Raquel asked.
“Your name is Luna Raquel and your sister’s name is Luna Rachel,” Mira answered proudly.
Luna Rachel clapped her hands. “Wow. You are slowly getting your memory back. I’m happy for you, sis!”
“Take your time, sis. You will remember everything soon,” Luna Raquel said reassuringly.
“Thank you for your concern. I appreciate it,” Mira responded thoughtfully.
“We didn't visit you right away because our brother told us you needed some time to be alone. We want to give you enough time to recover before we invade your privacy. I guess it’s okay now to ask you what really happened after you stopped breathing?" Luna Raquel asked. Curiosity sparkles in her eyes.
“Don’t ask her about such questions, sis,” Luna Rachel promptly stopped her sister from asking awkward questions.
Mira smiled. “It’s okay. I'm ready to talk about it…”
"So you really died? As in you encountered an out-of-body experience?" Luna Raquel asked.
Mira nodded her head. “Yeah. I actually died. My soul left my lifeless body, reaching to the sky and floating in the endless void of darkness. It was raining hard outside and lightning struck my soul and I was engulfed in complete darkness. When I opened my eyes, I was back in my body. I don’t know how long I have died for, but I’m glad my soul returned to my body again. I’m just thankful that I was given a second chance at life,” she said solemnly.
“That’s a scary experience, sis,” Luna Raquel commented in horror.
“Scary experience indeed.” Mira nodded her head.
“Life after death is indeed true and it happened to you. You are a living example, sis. I’m glad you are still very much alive or else our brother will be truly devastated if you die along with your baby,” Luna Rachel stated gratefully.
“Sometimes death is a welcome relief though…” Mira said softly.
Luna Raquel raised a brow. “Why did you say that?”
Mira heaved a sigh. “Because not everyone lives a good life, the majority live in pain and grief all their lives. They can’t find solace while alive so death brings them instant relief and release from pain and suffering. For them death is a better alternative compared to continuing to live in misery,” she responded melancholy.
The royal sisters stared at Mira's face in total awe.
“Wow, you have aged wisely after experiencing death,” Luna Rachel said in astonishment.
“Yeah, there is some depth in the way she spoke those words as if she had experienced extreme suffering in her life and lived to tell the tale,” Luna Raquel joked.
Mira smiled gloomily. The royal sisters have never experienced real hardship in life. Born into a rich family they have been pampered all their lives. If they get to live her life they will not survive.
The royal sisters continue to chat with Mira cheerily, discussing everything from fashion, food, music, and the latest news in the entertainment world.
After a while, Mira got bored and wanted them out of the room. They were noisy and she wanted silence. She massaged her temple, pretending her head hurt.
Luna Raquel noticed the expression of pain on her face. “Are you okay, sis?” She asked worriedly.
“I’m having a mild headache, I dunno why…” Mira answered gloomily.
“It must be a pregnancy related symptom. You need to rest. We will take our leave,” Luna Rachel said, standing up.
“We will visit you again some other time. Take care of yourself, sis.” Luna Raquel patted Mira’s shoulder affectionately.
“Thank you for checking in on me. I’m sorry I don't feel well today,” Mira apologized earnestly.
“It’s okay. We will chat some other time. Rest now,” Luna Raquel said gently.
“OK.” Mira went to bed and lay down.
Luna Raquel draped the blanket over her sister-in-law's fragile body. “We will take our leave.”
“Thanks for the visit.” Mira smiled and closed her eyes to sleep.
The women left the room.
After the royal sisters were gone, Mira opened her eyes.
Lena went to bed and asked, “Luna, does your head hurt again? You should take your medicine.”
“Nah, all I need is sleep. The pain will go away after I wake up,” Mira replied.
“OK.” Lena no longer offers the medicine and continues to do chores around the room.
After a few minutes lying on the bed, Mira couldn't force herself to sleep. She got up from the bed and walked to the window to breathe in fresh air. After inhaling the fresh air and admiring the blooming flowers in the garden, she went to the dresser table and brushed her hair.
She opened the drawer to get Luna Rosie’s phone, wanting to try opening it today with a random password she could think of. She was worried because she couldn't find the phone. It was no longer in the drawer where she had last seen it. W-where is it?
She opened the rest of the drawer but couldn’t find the phone. The charger was missing as well.
Where could it be?
She looked up at Lena, who was cleaning the TV. Did Lena take her phone? But she is not the type of person who steals other people’s possessions. So who took the phone?
Where could it be? She began to panic.
She had no choice but to ask Lena, “Aside from my husband and the royal family, who else entered my room today?”
Lena answered, “Um, the servant Mira. She brought some fresh clothes here because Roda was sick so she took over her chores.”
Oh no!
Mira froze. She bit her lower lip, alarmed. Could it be Luna Rosie who stole the phone?
“Luna, what’s the matter?” Lena asked.
She shook her head. “Um, what time did Mira come here?”
“She came here while you were sleeping and I left the room because the cook wanted to ask me regarding the ingredients of the food you want to eat,” Lena explained.
“So, Mira was here inside the room while I was sleeping?” Mira asked in agitation.
“Yes,” Lena replied.
“OK. That’s all Lena. Continue cleaning the room,” Mira said and walked to the window. When she looked down she saw Luna Rosie sitting on the bench. She was facing her room, holding the missing phone, busy browsing.
Mira’s breath quickened. Her heart pounded erratically into her chest. Dammit. Luna Rosie has already got her phone back! Has she already contacted her husband and revealed the truth?
Luna Rosie looked up and their gazes met.
Mira blanched because Luna Rosie was smiling triumphantly while holding her phone, silently declaring she had already won the round. Could she be chatting with her husband already?
Mira was panicking.
What to do?
Alpha Gideon was going to war. If Luna Rosie brought out the truth about the soul switch he might get distracted, and he would have a hard time concentrating during the bloody fight. He might get injured in the battle.
She needs to protect him! The only way to stop Luna Rosie is to go to the garden and put some sense in that woman’s stubborn head.
She looked at Lena and said, “I’m going to the garden alone. Please don’t follow me!”
Mira moved towards the door and left the room in a hurry.
