Chapter 106
She wanted to hint at Sawyer's special status to make Lilith back off, but because Sawyer was present, she spoke vaguely.
Lilith wasn't listening at all. Instead, she became even more contemptuous, "Oh, protecting her now? Samantha, you're really something, picking sides so quickly? Helping her cover up an affair? Looks like you two have a great relationship, or do you enjoy sharing the same man?"
Her words were becoming increasingly unbearable.
Elizabeth's eyes suddenly turned cold, about to speak.
But Sawyer, who had been silently standing a few steps away, suddenly moved.
He didn't respond to Lilith's foul language, nor did he rush to explain or distance himself like most men caught up in such drama would.
Instead, he walked calmly and directly to Elizabeth's side, standing shoulder to shoulder with her.
Before anyone—including Elizabeth herself—could react, he turned slightly, raised his hand, and with a natural, intimate gesture, his fingertips brushed across her cheek, gently tucking a strand of hair that had blown onto her face behind her ear.
His movement was gentle. After completing this gesture, he gave Elizabeth a smile that seemed to contain infinite meaning, his gray eyes looking deeply at her as he said softly, "Your hair was messy."
The whole process took only two or three seconds, yet it was filled with strong suggestive intimacy.
As if silently confirming Lilith's accusation, our relationship was exactly this close.
Elizabeth's body stiffened slightly. She immediately wanted to step back and create distance, but Sawyer had already withdrawn his hand, as if what he'd just done was merely a casual gesture of courtesy and gentlemanly behavior.
However, in Lilith's eyes, this action undoubtedly confirmed her suspicions!
Her eyes widened instantly, her face flooding with wild joy and deeper hatred!
"See that! Samantha, did you see! They're definitely having an affair! They dare to be this intimate on the street!" Lilith pointed at Sawyer and Elizabeth, her voice becoming even shriller with excitement. "Someone! Arrest this pair of adulterers! I'm going to personally take them to see Mr. Smith! Let Mr. Smith see what kind of person his fiancée really is!"
At her words, the two bodyguards behind her immediately stepped forward to grab Sawyer and Elizabeth.
Samantha screamed in fear, "Don't! Lilith, you've lost your mind!"
Elizabeth's eyes were ice-cold, already prepared to fight back.
Just then, Sawyer's figure flashed, moving at a speed almost too fast to see, directly circling to face Lilith.
In Lilith's terrified, widening pupils, Sawyer lifted his foot and, in what seemed like a casual but actually precise and ruthless move, kicked Lilith's ankle in her high heels!
Lilith let out a short, sharp scream, her body immediately losing balance, falling heavily to the ground in an extremely awkward position!
Her expensive dress hem was covered in dust, her carefully styled hair scattered messily, and a piercing pain shot through her ankle.
"Ms. Moretti!" The two bodyguards were shocked and alarmed. Forgetting about the arrest, they rushed back to help Lilith.
But Sawyer had already returned to his original position, pulling out a dark handkerchief and methodically wiping his hands, as if he'd just touched something dirty.
His face still wore that elegant, detached smile. Looking at Lilith, who was being helped up, grimacing in pain, shocked and furious, he said in a calm, flat tone, "Ms. Moretti, you should be careful when walking. Wearing such high heels, if you can't stand steady and fall, it's very dangerous. You should be more careful next time."
Lilith was in pain and anger, pointing at Sawyer, her lips trembling, unable to form complete sentences.
She had never suffered such humiliation!
This damned man actually dared to kick her!
Sawyer stopped looking at her and turned to Elizabeth, nodding slightly, "Ms. Windsor, it seems today isn't suitable for further discussion. Let's meet another day."
He deliberately emphasized the words "meet another day," as if the two of them really had some private arrangement.
Then, without waiting for Elizabeth's response, he brought along Justin, who had been watching the whole time coldly, turned toward his car, got in, and drove away.
The entire process was smooth and natural, as if what had just happened was just a trivial little episode.
Samantha watched Sawyer's dashing departing figure, her eyes full of admiration, completely ignoring Lilith, who was still on the ground, gasping in pain.
Elizabeth watched Sawyer's car disappear into traffic, her brows slightly furrowed.
Sawyer was deep-minded, decisive in his methods, and somewhat unrestrained in his actions.
"Elizabeth! You and that wild man better wait!" Lilith, with the bodyguards' support, barely managed to stand up. Her ankle hurt so much she was breaking out in cold sweat, but her venomous gaze was fixed on Elizabeth. "I won't let you get away with this! I'm definitely going to tell Mr. Smith!"
Elizabeth withdrew her thoughts, gave her a cold glance, too lazy to waste more words on this fool, and directly told the driver, "Drive."
The car slowly started, leaving Lilith's furious cursing behind.
Inside the car, Samantha was still excitedly reliving Sawyer's heroic rescue and dashing demeanor.
But Elizabeth was somewhat annoyed by Sawyer's actions.
She felt she'd been used.
Just as the car entered the Smith Manor gates, Elizabeth's phone vibrated urgently—it was Tina's dedicated line.
"Ms. Windsor," Tina's voice was uncharacteristically tense, "Mr. Smith, something's happened."
Elizabeth's heart tightened, "What's going on?"
"Mr. Smith went to the Golden Pit Casino in the southern part of the city tonight to handle some accounting issues. According to routine, he should have left and contacted me two hours ago. But it's now been nearly an hour past that time, all communication methods are unreachable, our people at the casino have been detained and can't send messages. Leon took people there, but was blocked outside. They're saying it's an internal reorganization and no one's allowed in or out."
Jacob had disappeared?
In his own casino?
Elizabeth's breathing instantly stopped. The image of Jacob's crippled legs from her previous life, the Smith Family's subsequent turmoil, and the Aiden Family's rise to power surged uncontrollably through her mind.
The timing was so close!
Had the revenge already begun?
Even faster and more direct than in her previous life?
"Immediately mobilize all available personnel, seal off all exits around the Golden Pit Casino, and investigate all suspicious people and vehicles! Contact our contacts inside the police force, see if there are any unusual dispatches or lockdown records! Check Richard, Dave, and everyone who's had conflicts with Jacob—their movements tonight!" Elizabeth forced herself to calm down, issuing a rapid series of commands in a quick, decisive tone.
"Yes!" Tina immediately complied, but hesitated, "But Ms. Windsor, with Mr. Smith absent, we can't directly access many permissions. Especially the family's internal security forces—they might not fully follow my commands."
Elizabeth immediately understood.
