Chapter 51: Fifty One

Louis sat at the head of the table in a dimly lit room, surrounded by his lieutenants. The air was thick with tension, the only sounds being the faint hum of the air conditioning and the rhythmic tapping of his fingers on the polished oak surface. He had always thrived in chaos, but now he felt like a man drowning in shadows. The cryptic note had unraveled his composure, and though he hid it well, the cracks were beginning to show.

"Sir, our networks are bleeding out. We need a solution-now," one of his men said, his voice laced with urgency.

Louis's gaze snapped to the man, his eyes sharp and cold. "I don't need you to state the obvious," he said icily. "Focus on the shipment tonight. It's critical we regain our footing."

The meeting dissolved into logistical chatter, but Louis's mind was elsewhere. The note haunted him: "Did you think betrayal would go unpunished?" His gut told him it was her. Daisy. But the idea was impossible-wasn't it?

On the other side of the city, Ezekiel leaned back in his leather armchair, a tumbler of whiskey in one hand and a dossier in the other. The photo clipped to the top showed a masked figure walking away from a smoldering warehouse-the Sovereign's enforcer. A figure who left chaos in their wake and whose methods were as calculated as they were brutal.

"She's alive," he muttered, his voice barely audible, the words both a relief and a curse.

"Sir?" his second-in-command asked.

Ezekiel waved him off. "Get me more on this operative. Everything. I want to know where they eat, sleep, breathe."

As the man left, Ezekiel stared at the photo again. The way the figure moved, the precision of the operation-it all screamed Daisy. Yet, he hesitated. If it was her, what had she become?

The night of the shipment arrived. Louis, now more paranoid than ever, personally oversaw the operation. It was meant to be a power move, a way to reassert his dominance and reassure his men. Instead, it became his worst nightmare.

The docks were eerily quiet, save for the distant crash of waves. His men were on edge, their hands hovering near their weapons. And then it began.

A single shot rang out, silencing the air. One by one, his guards fell, each hit with surgical precision. Louis barked orders, but chaos had already erupted. Smoke grenades rolled across the ground, obscuring visibility.

Through the haze, a figure emerged-tall, poised, and masked. The Sovereign's enforcer. She moved with lethal grace, her every step a death knell.

Louis aimed his gun, but hesitated. There was something achingly familiar in the way she carried herself, the tilt of her head, the slight curve of her lips beneath the mask.

"You've taken what doesn't belong to you," the figure said, her voice cold and detached. "Now you'll pay for it."

She moved faster than his men could react. Knives flashed, throats were cut, and within minutes, Louis was left alone, his men incapacitated or dead around him.

He raised his gun again, his hands trembling. "Who are you?"

The figure stepped closer, her boots crunching against the gravel. She stopped mere inches away, her masked face tilted up to meet his gaze.

"You already know."

Before Louis could respond, she dropped a small device at his feet. Smoke erupted, and she vanished into the night, leaving him coughing and disoriented.

Hours later, Louis sat in his office, staring blankly at the footage of the attack. His mind replayed the encounter over and over again. The voice, the movements-it couldn't be her.

But deep down, he knew.

Meanwhile, Ezekiel watched the same footage from his own headquarters, a small, bitter smile playing on his lips. "So, it's true," he whispered.

At the Sovereign's base, the masked figure knelt before the leader.

"You've outdone yourself," he said, his voice laced with approval. "But I must ask-what is it you truly seek?"

The figure remained silent, her head bowed.

The Sovereign chuckled. "Vengeance, perhaps? Or is it redemption? No matter. You'll get your chance soon enough."

He slid a file across the table. The figure picked it up, her eyes scanning the contents. Her grip tightened when she saw the names.

Louis. Ezekiel. Natalie.

The Sovereign's smile widened. "Now, let's see how far you're willing to go."
