Chapter 97 She Is Greedy, That Is Her Weakness
"Not good!"
Charles let out a breath. "Man, James is really sneaky! Looks like he's got this in the bag."
Even though James seemed a bit shady, as long as he played fair, people only cared about the result.
"Not necessarily!"
Daniel, who had been quiet, suddenly spoke up.
Charles didn't take his eyes off the screen but couldn't help his curiosity. "Daniel, why are you so sure? And seriously, you seem to have a lot of faith in Emily. You got a thing for her or something?"
"Even now, you can't shut up!"
Daniel's sarcastic voice cut through.
Charles sighed but obediently closed his mouth, focusing on the screen.
Byron was gripping the steering wheel, his hands sweaty from the tension.
"Accelerate, turn..."
Emily was beside him, giving serious reminders.
Byron's forehead was drenched in sweat, his eyes bloodshot. Hearing Emily's words, he bit his lip and floored the gas pedal, turning the wheel.
But his skills were lacking; he struggled with the right turning angle and how to maintain the inner circle without flipping over.
The car accelerated, and half of it seemed to lift off the ground.
Emily's eyes narrowed, and she suddenly reached out to adjust the steering wheel.
All the spectators gasped, holding their breath as they watched.
James was also taken aback.
He quickly accelerated and turned his steering wheel.
Both cars turned simultaneously.
Bianca couldn't even notice Emily's car at this moment; the turn was so fast it felt like she might be thrown out.
"Help me, I don't want to die..."
Bianca was terrified, screaming uncontrollably.
James was irritated by her screams, and his focus wavered.
His body shook, and he instinctively eased off the pedal.
The car's speed slowed down for a moment.
Emily's car successfully made the turn and overtook James's car.
It shot ahead like an arrow, leaving James's car far behind.
James's face turned dark and ominous.
By the time his car reached the finish line, Emily's car was already waiting ahead.
Byron had gotten out of the car, his legs weak. Colt quickly stepped forward to support him.
Byron gestured for another assistant to help Emily, but she was already out of the car.
Compared to Byron's weakness and exhaustion, Emily remained calm and composed.
"Ms. Johnson, you're amazing! If it weren't for you, I'd have either lost or ended up in the ICU from that turn!"
Byron had Colt help him to Emily's side, his voice trembling, almost ready to kneel in gratitude.
"Alright, get a grip! Since I'm your leader and promised to protect you, I'll always deliver!"
Emily, though critical of Byron, refrained from rolling her eyes out of empathy.
At this moment, James's car arrived.
He looked at Emily with a complex expression, walking closer step by step.
"James... My legs are weak, I was scared to death!"
Bianca's voice was hoarse and unappealing as she called out, feeling abandoned.
James, hearing Bianca's cries, felt no sympathy for the first time, only irritation.
Just then, Finn rushed over with a stern face.
James didn't turn to help Bianca; he simply instructed Finn, "Go help Bianca."
Then he strode towards Emily.
"You've got guts!"
James hadn't expected Byron to win, realizing it was due to Emily's guidance. Seeing her standing tall and composed by the car, he knew she hadn't screamed and distracted Byron like Bianca had.
He spoke with a hint of nostalgia, "I remember when you were just a kid, fighting grown men over scraps. You've always been brave."
James's tone was somewhat reflective.
Emily didn't respond, unsure of his intent.
He turned to Byron, "You won because of luck and Emily's bravery. If it were just you and me, you wouldn't stand a chance."
James refused to admit Byron was more skilled.
This implied Bianca had hindered him.
Bianca, supported by Finn, heard this and turned even paler, her body trembling.
She cried, "James, I'm sorry. It's all my fault for being weak and scared!"
Her tearful apology was pitiful.
If James continued to blame her, he'd seem petty. He suppressed his irritation, "It's not entirely your fault. I didn't expect you to be so frightened."
Bianca, initially relieved by his words, froze at his tone.
Her mind raced, eyes darting around.
She quickly approached Emily, "Emily, James is upset with me. You don't have to be jealous. James still thinks you're the best. Let's just consider today's race a friendly competition and forget the bet?"
Emily chuckled, "You think you can just forget a signed contract? It shows how unreliable you are. It's amazing how many fools fall for your tricks."
Byron chimed in, "Exactly, a signed contract is legally binding. Stop playing dumb, you legal ignoramus!"
"I... James..."
Bianca's face turned ugly, her eyes red as she looked to James for support.
James glared at her, silencing her nonsense.
Finn spoke up, "Emily, don't get cocky. You didn't win on your own. If Bianca gets hurt, it's on you. Don't expect mercy from me."
Byron stepped in front of Emily, blocking Finn's fierce gaze, "You think I'm invisible? Bianca's recklessness is her own fault! You guys were the ones being unfair, swapping drivers knowing Mr. Smith's level. We had to set some rules!"
Emily, having won 5% of Ascend Global Group's shares, was in high spirits and didn't bother arguing.
She told Byron, "Let's go!"
She headed to the lounge to change, ready to leave.
Passing by James, she reminded him, "The contract is active. Don't forget the share transfer."
James's face darkened further, his nails digging into his palm.
Emily, seeing his reaction, felt even better.
She went to change, but someone knocked on her door.
