Chapter 65: Want to See Her Embarrassment
"Not pregnant! Disappointed?"
That's her father for you.
What kind of dad, when his daughter is feeling sick and throwing up, jumps straight to accusing her of getting knocked up by some random guy instead of worrying about her health?
"What are you talking about? I'm your father; of course, I'm worried about you!"
Emily sneered, "I can't handle your kind of worry. A real dad wouldn't think his daughter was sleeping around just 'cause she's sick!"
"Isn't it because you've been out late, hanging with sketchy people?" Eli shot back, his tone dripping with reproach.
Emily didn't even bother to respond.
She didn't want to share a car with him, so she pulled out her phone to call for a ride.
Just then, a tall figure walked straight toward her.
Emily looked up and saw the Maybach not far behind him, her eyes widening in surprise.
She thought Daniel must have left already, but his car was still there.
That meant he was still in the car.
"Ms. Johnson, is there a problem? Mr. Smith hasn't left yet. He asked me to invite you to ride with us," York said respectfully.
Emily didn't fully buy York's words.
It wasn't that Daniel hadn't left yet; he was probably worried about her and waited on purpose.
Whether it was because she had helped him out at the hospital or because she needed to monitor his daily meals, the fact that he was willing to waste time waiting for her made Emily grateful.
Despite his cold exterior, maybe Daniel had a soft spot after all.
"Okay!"
Emily nodded and was about to get into the car with York.
Eli's face darkened, "What are you doing? Hanging out with more shady people..."
"Mr. Johnson, watch your words!"
Before Eli could finish, York, who had already walked away, suddenly paused and turned back with a threatening gaze.
He was someone who had seen bloodshed, and his presence was full of menace.
Eli was so frightened he shut his mouth.
After composing himself, he felt a bit annoyed and curious about what kind of person would have such a menacing subordinate.
Thinking of this, Eli couldn't help but follow them, wanting to see who was in the car.
Originally, he thought it was Aaron's doing, but now it seemed this person was more likely.
Of course, Emily, as a member of the Johnson family, was shamelessly hooking up with one man after another.
The car door opened.
Emily looked at the person inside, his whole body hidden in the shadows.
Light spilled in as the door opened, casting a faint glow on him, making his well-defined features hard to look away from.
Even though she had seen him many times, Emily's heart still raced instinctively.
She steadied her heartbeat and got into the car.
Eli had caught up and craned his neck to look inside.
Emily noticed his gaze and instinctively used her body to block Eli's view.
"Move aside, I want to see who you're hiding..."
Before Eli could finish his sentence, he was grabbed by the collar and lifted off the ground, then thrown aside.
Fortunately, the bodyguard who followed him caught him in time, preventing him from hitting the ground.
"Three strikes and you're out. Speak out of turn again, and you won't need that mouth anymore," York said coldly, his threat clear.
"Do you know who I am? How dare you treat me this way! Emily, get out of the car, or you'll lose Liam!" Eli shouted angrily, trying to use his status to intimidate York.
York sneered, "I don't care who you are. There won't be a next time!"
Unmoved, York gave Eli a cold glance, got into the car, and started the engine to leave.
Emily slightly opened the car window, speaking indifferently, "With Liam in your hands, you don't have to worry about me running away. I'll follow you."
Eli’s face darkened, but he didn't keep arguing with Emily.
He returned to his car and told the driver to head to the Reyes Villa.
Seeing this, Emily turned to Daniel apologetically, “Mr. Smith, I’m sorry you got dragged into my mess and had to deal with all that cursing.”
“You weren’t the one cursing, and you’re a victim too. Why would I blame you?”
Daniel looked at her, speaking calmly.
Emily thought to herself, someone as reasonable and clear-headed as Daniel couldn’t possibly match his bad reputation.
She decided to make him a nice meal tonight to thank him.
But she had one concern.
“Mr. Smith, don’t you have something important to do? You waited for me and now you’re taking me to the Reyes Villa. Won’t this delay your work?” Emily asked, feeling a bit guilty.
Daniel absently fiddled with his jade ring, his gaze deep but still distant and cool, “I wasn’t waiting for you on purpose. I fell asleep in the car. It’s a coincidence. I have someone else handling my work, so it’s fine.”
Oh.
She thought he was being kind to her, but it turned out to be a coincidence.
She almost misunderstood his intentions.
The car fell silent again.
But this time, there wasn’t the usual oppressive feeling she had when alone with him. Emily closed her eyes to rest.
Outside, tall trees blocked most of the sunlight, their leaves cutting the light into pieces that sneaked through the window, casting shadows on her long eyelashes.
Daniel turned his head, watching her lashes tremble.
Her smooth face had gained a bit of color, showing a youthful glow.
Though a few strands of hair were mischievously falling out of place.
Daniel raised his hand.
He hesitated, his gaze deepening, his Adam’s apple moving.
In the end, he withdrew his hand.
The atmosphere was thick with a subtle, warm tension.
Compared to the quiet harmony in the car, Eli was feeling very uncomfortable.
Liam, sitting in the unfamiliar car with the unfamiliar Eli, who was at odds with Emily, was scared and couldn’t stop crying.
Eli finally snapped, “Shut up!”
Liam was so frightened he stopped crying but shrank back into his seat.
Eli frowned. He hadn’t done anything to the boy, but he decided he might not adopt him after all.
Just then, Bianca called.
“Dad, where are you now? I was discussing the design draft with my teacher, and when I looked for you, you were gone.”
She had already signed up for the design competition. To show herself as a good daughter, she called to check on him.
Eli’s mood lifted.
Although Emily was troublesome, Bianca was an excellent child, which made him feel proud.
“I’m on my way to the Reyes Villa with Emily. She has to apologize to Byron. Only if he forgives her will it not affect our families’ cooperation.”
Eli didn’t hide anything from Bianca, “Bianca, you were right. Emily has been hanging out with bad people. I need to investigate and get rid of those men from her life.”
Bianca was stunned. She had been bluffing, but it turned out to be true.
This explained why Emily had changed so quickly.
But she couldn’t let Emily continue to meet other men without her knowledge. She needed to keep an eye on her.
“Dad, will the Reyes family make things difficult for Emily? Maybe I should go to the Reyes Villa. Byron likes me; perhaps he’ll go easy on Emily because of me.”
Bianca seemed genuinely concerned for Emily.
This made Eli even more proud.
Such a daughter was the true pride of the Johnson family.
“If it doesn’t interfere with your work, then come along. Emily is so ungrateful to have a sister like you who cares so much.”
Eli couldn’t help but complain about Emily again.
Bianca comforted him a bit more before hanging up.
She then called for a ride, heading straight to the Reyes Villa.
She couldn’t miss Emily’s apology to Byron!
