Chapter 128 Perspective of Others: He Likes You
"Alright, you guys are in the loop now, but let's keep this under wraps, okay? I'll send each of you a copy of the info later. Take it home, look it over, and no rush to decide."
Emily didn't flaunt it. For her, it was as easy as drinking water.
She also reminded everyone to keep it quiet.
"Sure thing, Ms. Johnson, whatever you say."
"Don't worry, Ms. Johnson, we're with you."
The two of them chimed in together.
Soon, the food arrived, and Emily dropped the subject and started eating.
Her bowl quickly filled to the brim, but under the watchful eyes of the three, Emily managed to eat all the food they piled on her.
When Emily got home, she saw Daniel.
She was a bit surprised to find him standing in the yard.
At that moment, Biscuit was rubbing against his legs, and Cloudy was wagging his tail at him. Liam was nearby, peppering him with questions, his eyes full of admiration.
Daniel, having shed his usual elite air, appeared gentle and patient with Liam.
"Emily!"
Liam was the first to notice her and called out cheerfully.
Daniel turned his head as well.
Both faces, one big and one small, looked at Emily simultaneously.
For a moment, Emily had a fleeting thought: this scene looked like a husband and son waiting for the wife to come home.
It was so beautiful and warm that it pulled Emily back to reality.
She often felt that such happiness was unreal.
"Mr. Smith, I didn't expect to see you here. How are you feeling?"
Emily greeted him with a smile and asked politely, "Have you had dinner yet?"
She thought it was just a casual question.
To her surprise, Daniel replied, "Not yet!"
Emily's smile froze on her face because she had already eaten.
Since he hadn't eaten, she couldn't very well say, "I've already eaten; you should go home and eat."
Emily thought for a moment and then said, "How about this: you play with Liam and Cloudy for a while, and I'll prepare a nutritious meal for you."
She had already informed Violette that she wouldn't be home for dinner.
Considering Daniel's health, she couldn't just throw together something quick. So, she decided to cook herself.
Daniel's lips curved into a slight smile when he heard her concern. "Alright, I'll wait as long as it takes!"
It was hard to tell whether it was his deep, affectionate gaze or his words that made Emily's heart race.
She avoided his eyes. "Okay!"
She turned and went into the kitchen.
Violette saw Emily heading into the kitchen and wanted to stop her. "Emily, you've had a long day. Let me handle it."
She reached for Emily's apron.
Emily sidestepped her hand. "Violette, I'll take care of Mr. Smith's meal. He has special dietary requirements."
Hearing this, Violette didn't argue further and decided to assist Emily instead.
Emily couldn't refuse her help, so she accepted it.
Violette looked at her several times, as if she wanted to say something. "Emily, be honest with me. Do you have feelings for Mr. Smith?"
Her eyes were complicated, and she seemed worried.
Emily was taken aback by the sudden question. Images of her interactions with Daniel flashed through her mind, each frame surprisingly clear.
It was Violette's question that made her realize she might actually have feelings for Daniel.
Emily quickly composed herself, lowered her eyes, and said, "Violette, don't worry. I know we're in different worlds. I won't make the same mistake twice. Besides, he doesn't even like me, right? We have no chance!"
Violette's expression grew more complicated. "Emily, but is there a chance that Mr. Smith likes you too?"
As an observer, she felt Daniel treated Emily differently than others.
Emily's eyes widened in surprise.
She couldn't help but laugh. "Violette, what are you talking about? That's impossible!"
She tried to convince herself not to overthink it and take it seriously.
Their statuses, positions, and levels of excellence created an insurmountable gap.
Violette explained, "Mr. Smith is rumored to be cold and ruthless, but he treats you differently. I've heard that he has punished James several times to protect you. It's too much of a coincidence to be just a coincidence."
Emily suppressed her racing heart.
She said, "He's the head of the Smith family. James is also part of the Smith family. If James messes up, he should be punished. It's nothing special."
Violette sighed.
"Maybe. You're amazing, and in my eyes, you're a good match for Mr. Smith. But if you start a new relationship, I hope you'll be careful and not get hurt again."
Emily was touched by her words.
"Violette, I understand. Don't worry!"
Emily promised.
Violette looked at her with relief and finally felt reassured.
Since there weren't many people to cook for, Emily only made four dishes.
Violette helped her and then let Emily rest.
So, when it was time to eat, only Daniel and Emily were left.
Liam had already gone to bed.
"Try it and see if you like it."
Emily set down the utensils and said to Daniel.
"As long as you made it, I'll like it!" Daniel said with a smile.
Here we go again.
His words were so ambiguous that Emily felt herself being charmed. If he kept this up, she wouldn't be able to control her feelings.
Emily avoided his deep gaze. "If you like it, eat more. I'll check your pulse after you finish, though it won't be as accurate as in the morning."
If she didn't have plans for tomorrow, she would have gone to his house in the morning.
Daniel seemed to read her mind. "If it's not accurate, how about I come to see you in the morning for a pulse check?"
Emily was surprised.
A fleeting emotion crossed her mind.
Wasn't this too much of a coincidence?
She explained, "Sorry, I have to leave early tomorrow for a trip. It's probably not convenient."
He was so disciplined and organized that his schedule was likely well-regulated.
Emily didn't think it was urgent.
Daniel focused on her words and casually asked, "Where are you going and what for?"
After asking, he seemed to realize it was a bit abrupt and explained, "Your safety affects my health, so I care about you. Maybe I should send someone to protect you."
Emily laughed inwardly.
Of course, he couldn't really like her.
It was probably because she was useful to him.
"No need, there's no danger. Thanks for your concern."
Daniel nodded but insisted, "Alright! How early? I can come by early for the pulse check."
