Chapter 124 Little Follower
"Don't waste your time on jerks or crappy situations. Better things are on the horizon."
Daniel chimed in suddenly.
Emily shook her head.
Daniel's heart sank. Was she shaking her head because she'd lost faith in people?
But then Emily said, "I don't pin my hopes on the future or anyone else. Only by becoming strong myself will good things naturally come my way."
Daniel's deep eyes reflected her determined yet lively gaze.
He felt both heartache and admiration for her.
He didn't hesitate to give her a thumbs-up. "That's awesome, really insightful."
Emily felt a sense of satisfaction as Daniel praised her, especially with the slightly affectionate look in his eyes. It made her lips curl up involuntarily.
Shortly after Emily called off her engagement, news broke that Bianca was pregnant and about to get engaged to James.
Emily had anticipated this outcome, but she hadn't paid much attention to it.
It was only when she received a reminder from Willow to submit her design draft that she "coincidentally" ran into Bianca, who made a point of sharing this "good news" with Emily.
Bianca gently stroked her still-flat belly with one hand, unable to hide her smugness. "Emily, I have to thank you for this. If it weren't for your reminder, I might not have noticed I was pregnant. When the baby is born, I'll be sure to tell them about your kindness."
Emily looked at Bianca expressionlessly. "Really? Congratulations."
She genuinely meant it, and she was quite sincere.
But Bianca clearly didn't believe her.
She thought Emily's words were insincere, just a cover for her jealousy.
"Thank you. Because of my pregnancy, the Johnson family and the Smith family are already discussing the engagement. I'll soon be marrying into the Smith family. Emily, I know you must be a bit upset that James is marrying me, but ultimately, it just wasn't meant to be between you two."
Bianca continued to provoke Emily on purpose.
She wanted to see Emily lose control, just like she had long ago.
But Emily clapped her hands calmly. "A bad man and a bitch, a match made in heaven. James is my ex-fiancé, a stain on my past. I wish I could erase him completely. You better keep a tight hold on James and make sure he doesn't ruin anyone else's life!"
Emily was so composed that Bianca was the one who started to break down first. "Emily, I know you're just saying this out of spite, but we only got engaged after you called off the wedding, so you can't blame me."
This time, Emily couldn't help but laugh.
She looked at the students passing by in the distance and said to Bianca, "What if I call them over and ask them if it counts as being a homewrecker when you got engaged to James with a one-month pregnancy just days after I broke off the engagement? Or do you think I don't have any evidence?"
"You wouldn't dare!"
Bianca's face darkened, her voice filled with malice.
It seemed she was aware that she was the other woman.
Emily snorted lightly. "I don't care if you two are together, as long as you don't bother me anymore. If you keep causing trouble, you know I have medical skills. If I get upset, your baby might not make it, and then you might lose your leverage to marry James. After all, on the day I called off the engagement, it was clear to me that the Smith family wasn't too keen on having you as their daughter-in-law."
Bianca was using her pregnancy to pressure the Smith family because she had seen that they wanted to arrange another engagement for James.
Emily's words made Bianca's face twist with anger, freezing her in place.
Seeing Bianca go silent, Emily turned to leave.
But someone stepped in her way.
"Emily, you're picking on Bianca again!"
It was Ronnie, glaring at Emily as he stood protectively in front of Bianca, like a knight defending his princess.
"Oh, look who it is! The loyal sidekick!"
Emily smirked.
"Emily, you can have your issues with me, but how can you say that about Ronnie?"
Bianca chimed in, pretending to defend Ronnie but really just stirring the pot.
Ronnie's face darkened. Seeing Bianca stand by him despite everything, he looked at Emily with even more hostility.
"Bianca, it's alright."
Ronnie gave Bianca a grateful look before turning to Emily with a cold smile. "All you do is play dirty tricks and run your mouth. Do you think you can break me? Let me tell you, I just joined the core team at Aiden's tech company, and I'm pulling in a six-figure salary. Doesn't that just burn you up?"
Emily raised an eyebrow.
"Really? Aiden's tech company's AI project, huh? Well, congrats. You better work hard for that paycheck."
"Finally accepting reality, huh? Good. Now that you know how capable I am, stay out of our way. And you owe Bianca an apology for bullying her."
Ronnie thought Emily's knowledge of his new job meant she was keeping tabs on him, boosting his ego even more.
Men can be so disgustingly self-assured sometimes.
Did he really think Emily was interested in him?
Some people are just incredibly clueless!
Emily almost laughed out loud. "Where do you get off thinking I'll listen to you and apologize to Bianca? Since you're so pitiful, I'll give you a heads-up. You probably don't know yet, but Bianca is preg—"
"Ronnie, Emily has issues with me, so she probably won't say anything nice. You shouldn't listen to her. I don't want you to have a bad impression of me because of her."
Bianca cut Emily off, trying to downplay her words.
Ronnie, already biased against Emily, found Bianca's words reasonable and thought Emily wouldn't say anything good.
"Don't worry, I won't believe any of her slander. We don't need to pay attention to her. Let's go."
Ronnie thought his entry into Aiden's AI team was all thanks to Bianca, which made him like her even more and trust her unconditionally.
Bianca nodded and was about to leave with Ronnie.
Suddenly, she thought of something and smiled. "Oh, Emily, I heard you're also entering the design competition. I am too. Even though you've never been good at it before, I'm looking forward to seeing the surprises you'll bring."
Ronnie sneered beside her. "She can't do anything. She's just jealous of you and copying you. Bianca, you shouldn't even mention she's your sister during the competition. She might embarrass you."
Emily almost laughed at Bianca's shamelessness. "Really? The competition, huh? I'm looking forward to seeing your work too!"
A flash of malice crossed Bianca's eyes.
What's going on?
Why isn't Emily getting agitated or angry?
What's this sudden panic in her heart?
It must be because she's been losing to Emily so much lately that she's scaring herself. She'll just wait for Emily to make a fool of herself and highlight her own superiority.
