Chapter 81

Chapter 81

Evelyn likes Matthew, just like Benjamin likes Evelyn.

Everyone in Emerald City knows this.

So her desire to break off the engagement is also an open secret.

Jeremy's gaze landed on Evelyn with ill intent, and his tone began to turn lewd.

"No time like the present. Ms. Thomas, why don't you come with me to get a hotel room again today? Even if it doesn't make the trending topics tomorrow, all these people are watching."

"No matter how much Benjamin tolerates you, he can't stand you betraying him like this."

Again?

Jeremy made it sound like there was really something between them.

Even if Evelyn's mind is unclear, she wouldn't break off the engagement this way.

She pulled at the corner of her lips, the smile still on her face, but her words weren't so polite anymore.

"Seems like Mr. Martinez and I have quite a history. Why don't you give me a call then?"

"Don't tell me Mr. Martinez doesn't have my contact information?"

"Then how did we contact each other before? Telepathy? That's not going to happen between us, is it?"

Evelyn's last sentence was full of mockery, and the sarcasm spread across her face showed a cold detachment.

A flash passed through Jeremy's slightly lowered eyes - not panic, but anger.

Did he arrange this on purpose?

Why?

Various reasons flashed through Evelyn's mind, but she couldn't figure out why he would embarrass her in this situation.

For something like this to happen at the Martinez family's birthday party, and involving someone from the Martinez family, how could the Martinez family stay out of it?

After what happened with Freya last time, Benjamin definitely wouldn't let the Martinez family off.

With all these things combined, her mind was a bit confused, and she couldn't understand what Jeremy was trying to do.

Jeremy looked at her and laughed coldly.

"Ms. Thomas, who knows if you've already deleted my contact information?"

"After all, right now you look like you're trying to distance yourself from me."

"What, you suddenly don't want to break off the engagement anymore?"

Break off the engagement!

Could it be that the Martinez family made a deal with Matthew?

Evelyn collected herself and was about to speak when Jeremy suddenly said—

"Contact information doesn't prove anything, but the birthmark on Ms. Thomas's body can prove our intimacy."

"You have a pink birthmark on your lower back. I really enjoy holding you from behind and kissing it there."

Combined with the suggestive smile on his face, most people could picture that scene in their minds.

Quite a few people started jeering.

Evelyn's face turned completely cold.

Jeremy was spreading lies to this extent, giving her no chance to clear things up.

"What's with that expression, Ms. Thomas?"

Someone laughed and said, "Mr. Martinez has given you the best way to prove yourself. Just show us your birthmark, and we'll know everything."

If she really bared her back to prove her innocence, she would instantly become the laughingstock of everyone.

If she didn't prove it, then there was no way to stop this rumor.

Suddenly, all the mocking laughter was directed at Evelyn. Her hands hanging at her sides clenched into fists.

Stay calm, she had to stay calm.

Panicking now wouldn't help her solve anything - it would only give others more to talk about.

Just as chaos surrounded her, an elderly voice spoke up.

"How could something like this happen?"

Zachary walked over, leaning on his cane.

His eyes had become cloudy with age, but still gleamed with shrewdness.

"Ms. Thomas, since this has happened between you two, the Martinez family naturally has to take responsibility. We'll arrange your marriage right away."

Marriage?

Her and Jeremy?

Evelyn's thoughts became a jumbled mess. She asked instinctively, "Isn't the Martinez family planning to marry into the Simpson family?"

"The one planning to marry into the Simpson family is my other grandson, not Jeremy."

Then what was Jeremy's proposal about earlier?

Even if she couldn't figure it out, she understood that the Martinez family must have other plans.

Evelyn calmed down and looked up.

"Zachary, marriage isn't something that can be decided just by talking. Besides, Benjamin and I..."

"You've already slept with me, how could Benjamin still want you? He can't really tolerate you betraying him like this."

Jeremy spoke crudely, causing another round of laughter.

Zachary pretended to scold Jeremy a few times, then looked at Evelyn with an even more kindly expression.

"Since this has happened, we naturally need to sit down and talk."

He raised his hand: "Someone, take Ms. Thomas upstairs."

She couldn't go!

Once she went, she would be under the Martinez family's control. There was no telling what would happen. She couldn't let herself fall into a helpless situation again.

Being sold to a red-light district in Zephyria in her past life had already made her suffer enough.

She looked at the servers walking toward her and smiled coldly.

"So you're not going to respect my wishes and are going to force me to leave?"

"What are you saying?" Zachary seemed like just a kindly old man. "I just want to talk about you and Jeremy. Don't worry, I'll have someone bring your parents over right away."

Several servers surrounded her, giving Evelyn no chance to resist, and grabbed her arms to take her upstairs.

How could a weakling like her be their match?

With so many people around, no one was going to help?

Where was Samuel?

Evelyn's heart gradually grew cold. Had she done so much only to still be unable to change her fate?

Even though her life had taken a different path, was her destiny still unchangeable?

No, she couldn't just give up the situation she had worked so hard to change.

"Let go of me!"

She suddenly shouted, looking at Zachary: "What can't be discussed here that we have to leave?"

Evelyn met Zachary's eyes and saw the ruthlessness in them. Her heart sank.

Zachary was determined to take her away.

What should she do?

She searched through the crowd, trying to find someone who could help her, but everyone either seemed too scared or had been bought off - no one reacted.

Finally, Violet said something in confusion.

"Isn't it wrong to just take her away like this?"

"Ms. Bailey," Zachary said kindly, "This is something the Martinez family has wronged Ms. Thomas with; naturally, we owe her an explanation."

"But..."

"Violet, call Benjamin! Tell him to come save me!" Evelyn suddenly said.

Violet froze, instinctively gripping her phone.

Noticing Violet's reaction, Zachary narrowed his eyes. He signaled his people to move faster, then smiled at Violet.

"Ms. Bailey, we all know about Mr. White's feelings for Ms. Thomas."

"With something like this happening suddenly, I'm afraid it will upset him, and he'll be very disappointed."

"Please take care of Mr. White during this time. I'm sure the relationship between you and Mr. White will develop by leaps and bounds."

With a few words, Zachary painted a beautiful picture for Violet. Her expression changed several times, and the hand holding her phone gradually loosened.

Evelyn had already been dragged to the stairs. Panic spread through her entire body at this moment. She was extremely anxious, even feeling desperate.

Just then, a gloomy male voice rang out.

"Where are you taking her?"

Benjamin walked in with a dark expression, his sinister aura overflowing.
