Chapter 13
"You don't want to improve your grades?" John asked, confused. "Just spare some time and let me tutor you. That should be okay, right?"
"No need."
I handed the empty lunch box back to John.
John seemed a bit dazed, looking somewhat disappointed.
"Aren't you afraid people will laugh at you for hanging around me?"
I looked into John's eyes and asked.
John's eyes were clear and bright. "What's there to be afraid of?"
"Before, I wanted to keep my distance from you because I thought, I don't like you, but you like me, so I should keep my distance and not let you have any unrealistic fantasies."
"But now it's different."
John said.
"Oh." I didn't really care what he thought. "Your cooking is pretty good."
I headed back to the classroom first.
John didn't follow this time.
After all, Class A and Class F weren't even in the same building.
After school, he was waiting downstairs, but didn't say hello. I didn't acknowledge him either, yet he quietly followed behind me.
I had no idea what he wanted.
Walking out of the school gate, I didn't see my driver and frowned.
A Bentley suddenly pulled up slowly in front of me.
The window rolled down, and the woman in the driver's seat with flaming red lips took off her sunglasses. "Alice, do you remember me?"
My face went cold.
Alice remembered.
The woman before me was Alex's biological mother, Ava Davis.
She glanced at John behind me and leaned on the car window teasingly. "Oh my, Alice, got a boyfriend?"
John thought she was my family member. Embarrassed by the teasing, he waved his hands. "No, no, we're just classmates."
"Go away,"
I told John.
John was a bit confused, but seeing my expression wasn't good, he obediently left first.
Ava smiled and got out of the car, reaching out to touch my face. I slapped her hand away.
She looked at me in surprise, the smile fading from her face. "Alex was right, you really have changed. Pretty fierce, Alice."
"Get lost."
I didn't want to waste words with Ava.
Ava laughed in anger. "Alice, what exactly did Emily teach you to make you so aggressive? You got my Alex whipped, and I haven't settled that score with you yet."
"Settle the score with me?"
I glanced back at Ava. "Then you must have a death wish."
"Ha," Ava sneered, putting her sunglasses back on. "I think you and your mother haven't figured out your situation yet, Alice. One word from me, and you'll have no one to pick you up."
I laughed. What an absurd threat.
To show off her position in Robert's heart?
I shot back, "One move from me, and you'll be attending your precious son's funeral."
Ava got angry. "You wouldn't dare?"
I kicked the Bentley, and the car door instantly shattered.
Ava screamed at the sight. "Are you crazy?"
"Guess whether I dare or not?"
"Alice!" Ava panicked, not knowing what to do, and could only take out her phone to call Robert.
"Hello, darling..."
Before she could finish, I snatched her phone and crushed it under my foot.
"What? You?!" Ava broke down, clutching her hair.
I left satisfied.
Took the subway home.
When I got home, Emily was nowhere to be seen.
I asked the housekeeper, "Where's my mom?"
"Ah, Ms. Alice Baker, you don't know yet? Mrs. Emily Baker was in a car accident today. She's at the hospital downtown."
My eyes widened. I dropped my backpack and rushed to the hospital immediately.
At the hospital room door.
Robert was pacing while on the phone.
But the other end wasn't answering.
I didn't pay much attention and went straight into the room.
Emily looked in fairly good spirits, with gauze wrapped around her forehead.
I sat by the bed. "Mom, how are you feeling?"
"Nothing serious, just minor injuries."
"What happened?"
"Ran into a drunk driver. Just bad luck."
Emily seemed helpless.
She suddenly looked up at Robert, who entered the room. "Your Ava needs you, so go. No one wants you here anyway."
Robert stayed silent. "I'm not leaving. I want to stay with you."
"It's nothing serious. I have Alice with me, and James will come later too."
Robert didn't respond and didn't leave.
Emily rolled her eyes at him.
Emily really was fine, though. I could tell.
Suddenly, the door burst open.
Ava came running in, crying.
"Darling!"
As soon as she entered, she threw herself into Robert's arms.
Robert reflexively pushed Ava away.
I watched this scene and found it ridiculous.
They already had a kid together. What was this act for?
Emily's face darkened. She secretly clenched the bedsheet. "Robert, what's the meaning of this?"
Robert frowned and said to Ava, "Get out."
Ava clung to Robert. "Darling, I was scared to death, okay? I just went to Crestland Academy to check on Alice, and Alice kicked the car you gave me to pieces. I can't even imagine—if that kick had landed on me, I'd probably be in the ICU."
Always tattling.
I clicked my tongue impatiently.
"What, you want to try? And you came looking for trouble?"
I took a step toward Ava. Robert instinctively moved Ava behind him and warned me, "Alice, don't do anything rash."
Watching Robert protect Ava, Emily, though used to it, still laughed coldly in anger. "If you two want to have your affair, get out."
Robert pushed Ava, signaling her to leave.
Ava did let go of Robert, but instead of leaving, she walked to the bedside. "Emily, I came to visit you. We haven't seen each other in so long."
"Get out." Emily turned her face away, not wanting to look at Ava.
Ava even tried to take Emily's hand.
Robert stopped her. "Enough, go outside!"
He gently pushed Ava. She clutched her arm, looking at Robert in disbelief. "Darling, you never used to push me!"
Robert looked like he had a headache.
I patted Robert's arm, offering him a solution. "Slap her twice."
Robert frowned. "What?"
"Hit her." I kept it brief.
"If you don't, I will. And we're already at the hospital, so getting her into the ICU would be convenient."
I flexed my wrist.
Ava's eyes widened. "Alice, do you have violent tendencies? Always hitting people. Don't come near me!"
Ava took the opportunity to hide behind Robert, gripping his arm tightly.
At this moment, Robert chose to protect Ava. A hint of triumph flashed in Ava's eyes.
"Alice! Stop this nonsense!" Robert's face darkened.
Looking at my biological father, who was determined to protect his mistress, I raised my hand and slapped him.
