Chapter 11
The crowd erupted in shock.
"What's going on? Did Sophia really steal from Alice? That snake bracelet on her hand?"
"Come on, you actually believe what that idiot Alice says? Then you're an idiot too."
"That snake bracelet has such a unique design. I feel like I've seen it somewhere before."
Sophia's expression changed slightly. She pulled her hand away from mine and touched the snake bracelet on her left wrist. "Alice, you've gone too far. This snake bracelet is a gift from Joseph, the heir of the Miller family."
"To repay me for saving him."
Sophia said confidently.
"Oh, that's why the bracelet looks familiar! This snake bracelet design is the Miller family's token! Only people who have done a favor for the Miller family can receive such a gift."
Someone in the audience said.
That was exactly why Sophia had set her sights on this snake bracelet.
Sophia took a deep breath and continued, "Besides, Mr. Miller has already found me and confirmed with me that I was the one who helped him that day."
Since Sophia had worn the snake bracelet so openly, it would only be a matter of time before Joseph found her.
But I felt that Joseph wouldn't mistake his benefactor.
Unless he was blind.
"Alice, you're accusing me of stealing. I can't bear this injustice, and I can't defend myself. Why don't we let Mr. Miller testify on my behalf? That way, everyone will believe me and clear my name."
Sophia's eyes reddened slightly. With a look of restraint, she turned to everyone. "Everyone, Mr. Miller is also here at the party tonight. He said he wanted to chat after my performance. Mr. Miller came here low-key, and I didn't want to disturb him, but I have no choice."
"Also, I apologize to everyone for delaying the party and ruining everyone's mood because of my personal matters."
After speaking, Sophia bowed to the audience.
Her friends looked at Sophia with approval from below the stage.
After all, Sophia had just said she was going to become the wife of the Miller family, a top-tier family. Now she had connected with Joseph. In their eyes, Sophia was doing quite well for herself.
Sophia looked at me. "Alice, I know you must resent me for taking your place for over ten years. No matter how you want to punish me, I can accept it, but I cannot accept being wrongly accused!"
"Clap clap clap!"
A round of applause rang out.
"Well said."
Joseph walked out from backstage of the auditorium.
Sophia looked at Joseph as if seeing her savior.
"Mr. Miller!"
"I'm so sorry to make you witness this embarrassment. I need you to testify."
Joseph nodded and glanced at me.
His gaze then fell on Sophia. "I do need to testify, but I'm testifying for your sister."
"You stole her things."
Joseph said with a half-smile.
Sophia's face turned deathly pale.
The audience was stunned by this plot twist.
They might not believe me, and might not believe Sophia, but they wouldn't disbelieve Joseph.
"Mr. Miller, didn't we already confirm this? I'm the girl who helped you when you were attacked. You gave me the snake bracelet yourself!"
Sophia was still struggling desperately.
Joseph grabbed Sophia's wrist. "You've got some nerve, daring to lie to me."
"What I hate most is being lied to. You thought wearing the snake bracelet would fool me? I pretended to believe you, and you really took me for a fool? Take it off."
Joseph's face turned cold as he flung Sophia's hand away.
Sophia's legs went weak. Trembling, she removed the snake bracelet from her hand and handed it to Joseph.
"Cat got your tongue? Shouldn't you apologize to your sister?"
Joseph asked coldly.
With no way to argue, Sophia could only admit her mistake obediently. "Alice, I'm sorry. I was confused for a moment."
"I don't think you were confused for a moment."
I looked at Sophia seriously.
She looked up at me in confusion.
"I think you're just shameless."
Sophia staggered back two steps and fainted in a delicate, helpless manner.
I knew she was faking it, but the commotion she made falling straight down was quite loud. It must have hurt.
Besides, I didn't have time to deal with her nonsense right now.
As soon as Sophia "fainted," her friends immediately rushed onto the stage in a panic to help her.
They shouted, "Call an ambulance!"
The scene became somewhat chaotic.
Joseph looked at me. "Girl, can we talk in private?"
I nodded and followed Joseph out.
I had no interest in the commotion behind me.
However, I felt someone's gaze on my back.
I turned around and saw John staring at me.
I ignored him and followed Joseph out of the auditorium to the school parking lot, getting into Joseph's custom Rolls-Royce.
Joseph eagerly grabbed my hand.
I glanced at him.
He tried to put the snake bracelet on my hand.
He failed.
Joseph had to give up and said somewhat awkwardly, "Ahem, now I understand why you weren't wearing it."
I said, "..."
"Girl, I deliberately pretended to believe your sister to see what she was up to. As soon as I saw she was trying to frame you, I immediately came forward to testify for you and turn things around. Wasn't I righteous and loyal?"
Joseph bumped my arm like a buddy.
I said, "...Yeah."
"You should watch fewer trashy videos."
Joseph clicked his tongue. "That's not fair. I call it keeping up with the times. That's how I can relate to you, young students, right?"
He stuffed the snake bracelet back into my hand. "Your sister is really both stupid and mean. But if she hadn't worn the snake bracelet so openly, I wouldn't have been able to find you so quickly!"
"Find me, for what?"
I was on guard.
"To repay you, of course! After I went back, I thought about it and felt that giving you a million dollars still wasn't enough to repay your kindness."
I smiled.
Really?
You want to investigate me, don't you?
What's your agenda?
I decided to wait and see, and said politely, "Thank you for today."
"Don't be polite. We're friends."
"How about this - I'll treat you to a meal, and then we'll be friends. Want to add each other on Facebook?"
"No thanks, I'm on a diet," I answered.
Joseph suddenly looked me up and down. "Now that you mention it, with your figure, you really should lose some weight. Forget about whether you'd look better - it's clearly affecting your health!"
"Yeah."
I said flatly.
Since I refused to have dinner, Joseph was at a loss, frowning as he tried to think of something to talk about.
He suddenly had a flash of inspiration. "Girl, I heard your sister is quite scheming. Besides, she's just an adopted daughter of the Baker family. Being so arrogant and constantly targeting you is too much!"
"How about this - just say the word, and I'll help you kick her out of the Baker family."
"No need."
I shook my head.
