Chapter 506: Arranging People to Monitor
"Hey, find me someone who's really good at taking care of people and arrange it right away."
Calista said into the phone while walking to the side.
Otto knew that even if he refused, Calista would find a way to arrange someone to watch over him.
He was very clear in his heart whether this was out of concern for his health or to monitor him.
But he wasn't going to call her out on it right now.
Anyway, the poison should already be cured, so he wasn't too worried. He'd figure out a plan later.
Seeing Calista go aside to make a call, Axel took the initiative to talk to Otto.
"Mr. Day, did you just take your medicine? When the doctor examined you, did they prescribe any new medication? You don't look well, seems like you should change to a new prescription."
Axel's questions seemed to be out of concern for his health, but were actually probing.
He had just smelled an unusual medicinal fragrance.
It felt somewhat different.
Otto's eyes darkened.
Since he had indeed taken the antidote, he vaguely suspected Axel was testing him.
"The doctor didn't find anything else wrong with me, just weak blood and qi. They don't dare change the medicine casually. I actually feel much better today, maybe I can be discharged in a couple days. I don't think changing the prescription is necessary, and the doctor didn't mention it either."
Otto answered seriously.
Axel watched Otto's expression as he said this.
He didn't notice anything suspicious.
It didn't seem like he was lying.
So he changed his approach, "Well then, I know a bit about medicine myself. You know I have a teacher, I've learned some things. Let me take a look."
Axel looked at Otto with a warm smile.
Otto panicked inside.
However, having been through a lot, even though his mind was in chaos, he didn't show it on his face at all.
He was actually a bit worried - if Axel checked his pulse, would he discover the poison had been cured?
Or was he just testing him?
If he refused, it would more easily arouse suspicion.
Otto struggled internally.
But he knew he had to make a choice.
"Then please take a look. Lika has also asked quite a few doctors to examine me, but none could say what's really wrong. I think I'm probably just too tired lately, nothing serious."
Otto spoke casually, but his back was already sweating from nervousness.
This poison actually couldn't be detected.
He was indeed testing.
This poison required a certain parasitic worm, then a drop of Otto's blood. If the poison was cured, the worm wouldn't react, but if the poison remained, the worm would change color.
"How is it?"
Otto extended his hand and let Axel examine him for a while.
After Axel withdrew his hand, he asked.
Seeing Otto's consistent reactions, the weight in Axel's heart lifted. It seemed he had been overthinking.
"I didn't find anything wrong either. It seems like what the hospital said is true - Mr. Day should be able to be discharged in a couple days."
"Ha, that's what I said!"
Otto also breathed a sigh of relief and could even laugh.
He seemed genuinely happy that there was no serious illness.
Soon Calista came over with someone.
"Dad, from now on let Bodhi take care of you. If anything happens, he can notify me right away."
Calista introduced him with a smile, and playfully added, "I specifically hired a male caregiver, so Mom won't be jealous now, right?"
"You child, so disrespectful. Alright, you just give me a headache. The company matters still need your hard work. Go back and rest well, and keep a close eye on company affairs for me."
Otto scolded with a smile and began showing them out.
"Fine, I'll go." Calista said with a wronged expression.
Knowing this was just how the father and daughter interacted and not a real argument, Axel didn't get involved.
After they finished talking, Axel also said goodbye, "Then Mr. Day, rest well. When I have time, I'll come visit you again."
"You're busy, no need to keep running back and forth. Calista sometimes acts confused, so I'll have to trouble you to give her some guidance now and then."
Otto spoke like a gentle elder, giving a few instructions.
"Mr. Day, don't worry."
After Axel finished speaking, he left with Calista.
The person called Bodhi had nothing to do now, just standing guard like this, which seemed somewhat awkward.
Otto paid him no mind.
He now had time to pick up his phone and look at it.
Aaron: [Mr. Day, how do you feel after using the antidote pill? You must not let anyone else know about this.]
Aaron's message had already come through.
He was still a bit worried, so he gave another reminder.
Otto replied: [Don't worry about that, I know what I'm doing. That Axel was just testing me, but didn't find anything wrong.]
Aaron's heart sank.
Sure enough, Calista and Axel were behind this.
He just didn't know which one was the mastermind.
If it was Axel, that would be better.
After all, he was an outsider. Axel clearly didn't like Calista much, so marrying into the family naturally had ulterior motives.
But if it was Calista, Otto would truly be heartbroken.
Aaron sent another message, planning to tell Emily about this later and ask her whether the antidote pill could be detected.
Otto was also very alert. After stopping his chat with Aaron, he even deleted their conversation.
Lika came in at this moment.
Seeing an unfamiliar person in the room, she frowned slightly.
"Otto, what's going on? Who is this person?"
Lika actually vaguely guessed that Otto's physical condition wasn't as simple as what the hospital found.
Otherwise, she wouldn't be asking people everywhere to help introduce the best doctors.
Otto's condition kept fluctuating. At first it seemed like a cold.
But he was obviously getting thinner and thinner, which was very wrong.
"Calista and Axel just came by. They were worried no one was taking care of me, so they specially found someone to look after me."
Otto subtly gave Lika a look.
After years of marriage, they had an understanding.
Lika immediately understood what Otto meant.
"Where did they hire this person from? What's his name?"
Lika nodded imperceptibly, then began asking about his background.
Bodhi had already been instructed and answered the questions flawlessly.
Lika's heart sank. The more satisfactory his answers were, the more it meant that whoever arranged for Bodhi was well-prepared.
"I'm here with Otto now. Otto likes to eat fruit, go buy some."
Lika ordered.
Unexpectedly, Bodhi didn't move, but instead said, "I'm sorry, I'm following Calista's instructions to not leave his side."
"What's this about? You think I would harm Otto? You say you won't leave his side, but I don't believe it. Are you saying you won't leave even for washing up or eating?"
Lika was usually gentle and soft because Otto spoiled her.
But don't think she was really just a clinging vine that could only depend on Otto.
In reality, she was very opinionated and resilient.
Bodhi replied, "Don't worry about that. There are replacements, just to ensure there's always someone with Mr. Day."
It was all arranged.
Hard to say they didn't have some ulterior motive.
Lika wanted to say more, but Otto had already gotten a general idea from Lika's probing, so he stopped her.
"Lika, since it's Calista's instruction, he's just following orders. Don't make it difficult for him. Let it be. Calista is doing this out of concern for me."
Hearing Otto's words, Lika stopped her probing questions.
Otto couldn't do much, but Lika could.
He said with concern, "These days, you've been worried about my health. Now that Bodhi is here, I can rest easy. You should go home and rest well, then come see me again."
"Okay."
Lika knew Otto wanted her to do something, so she didn't refuse. She first called the doctor to ask about his physical condition again, then left.
As soon as she left the hospital, she received a message from Otto.
