Chapter 503 The Tussle Between Bad People
"Daniel, you know what? Bianca escaped."
Emily hung up the phone and met Daniel's concerned gaze. She acted casual as she told him what the call was about.
Daniel had also suspected someone was backing Bianca. Her escape this time was intentional on their part - they wanted to investigate who was behind her, playing the long game to catch the bigger fish.
The law enforcement team had plenty of ways to deal with people like this.
So he wasn't surprised.
"Someone's helping her from behind the scenes. That person is dangerous now. I'll assign more people to protect you."
Daniel was more concerned about Emily's safety.
"No need for now. Zoey and James must have people watching us secretly. Before, when I was 'acting' in front of you, they wouldn't suspect anything because of how much attention you paid to me. But now that you know about the 'video,' if you still take such good care of me, it might make them suspicious. It's just a matter of these couple days - no need to rush."
Emily stuck to her opinion.
Daniel looked into Emily's determined eyes, thought for a moment, and agreed, "Okay, but you must wear the tracking necklace I gave you at all times."
A flash of panic crossed his mind.
But it was too quick - Daniel didn't catch it.
Emily brought up another question, "Do you know about the Devil organization? I suspect Bianca might have this organization helping her from behind. That's the message from Zander's side. I asked him to follow this lead - maybe we can actually track down who's behind this."
With Bianca going to Emerald City, Emily actually had a vague suspicion it might be connected to the Stevens family in Emerald City.
And also.
"Before, people might have thought Bianca wasn't that important, but this time they risked exposure to get her out. I'm afraid she must know something damaging about them. If we find Bianca, it might help the law enforcement team make a breakthrough."
Emily added.
"York and his team have detailed information about Devil. I'll have him give it to Zander later, and we can investigate along this line too."
Daniel agreed almost without hesitation, openly sharing the information he had with Emily.
This was trust.
And his unconditional love for her.
Emily's heart warmed, "Okay, thank you."
Daniel took Emily's hand and walked toward the dining table, "With me, you never need to say thank you."
The meal was sweet and warm.
Compared to their side, Bianca, who they had mentioned, was not doing well at all.
Although she had been rescued, to avoid being caught while on the run, she had to hide everywhere, travel non-stop, and avoid main roads. She was in terrible shape.
Medical parole was the solution they had given her.
But she actually felt like something was really wrong with her body.
That's why the hospital hadn't suspected anything at all.
"I can't go on. I need to rest. I don't feel well."
Bianca squatted down, gasping for breath, her face thin and pale.
The person who rescued her was clearly impatient, "If you don't want to get caught, stop wasting time. Hurry up and keep moving. You used medical parole as an excuse, but you're not really sick."
One of them had a very grim expression, with piercing eyes staring at Bianca in a frightening way.
Bianca pouted pitifully, "I am really sick, I'm not pretending."
As soon as she said this, her body couldn't help but sway.
Instead, it drew mockery from the man, "You're really putting on quite a show."
He reached out to grab Bianca and pulled at her hand.
Unexpectedly, with this pull, she swayed even more and her body fell toward the ground.
The other man quickly caught Bianca, "I think she's really sick, doesn't look like she's faking it. Look at her face - something's wrong. Hey, wake up!"
After catching Bianca, the man's expression darkened. He quickly patted her, trying to wake her up.
Bianca briefly regained consciousness, but only managed to say with difficulty, "I want to see..."
Before she could finish, she completely lost consciousness.
When she woke up again, what met her eyes was a somewhat dazzling ceiling.
Bianca quickly closed her eyes, but she wasn't willing to give up. She needed to know where she was now. She was afraid those two men who rescued her had sold her out.
She quickly sat up.
Her eyes rapidly scanned the surroundings, trying to see clearly what the situation was.
That's when she also clearly saw the man sitting not far from the bed.
"Mr. Stevens, I finally get to see you. Thank goodness you didn't give up on me and rescued me."
Bianca said happily.
Axel looked at Bianca with indifferent eyes, "You've got some nerve, daring to threaten me with that information. Do you know what I'm capable of?"
Bianca felt a bone-chilling coldness and her body shivered.
But she forced herself to hold it together.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Stevens. I didn't mean to threaten you with that information. I just wanted to live. Look, I haven't revealed anything all this time, have I? And if you really wanted to do something to me, you wouldn't have let me appear before you alive and well, would you?"
The time spent with the law enforcement team had given her time to think.
Her mind had become somewhat sharper.
Axel liked smart people.
His attitude improved a bit.
"I won't bother with you this time. Write down what you know, and later I'll have someone send you abroad. You don't need to come back anymore - there's no place for you to hide here."
Axel wasn't discussing with her - he was making arrangements for her directly.
Last time she still had money, but even then life abroad was hard. Now she had no money, and Axel probably wouldn't give her much either. Naturally, Bianca was unwilling.
"Mr. Stevens, actually something is really wrong with my body. I'm not lying to you, I'm really sick. This needs time - only then can I remember more."
Bianca didn't want to leave. She wanted to buy time.
Even more—
Her eyes secretly looked over Axel.
Axel was good-looking and had a good position.
If she could make him fall for her during this time, wouldn't she be able to stay completely?
And enjoy the benefits of his favor?!
Little did she know, this behavior somewhat angered Axel.
Without warning.
Axel made his move, one hand gripping her neck, "You're playing me? The last person who played me is nothing but bones now. You've really got guts."
The sudden suffocation made Bianca see stars.
She tried to pry Axel's hand away.
But there was no way she could.
As breathing became harder and harder, her eyelids started to droop.
Bianca struggled to squeeze out a sentence: "I backed up what I know. If anything happens to me, someone will automatically send it out."
Axel's eyes narrowed, killing intent clear.
But the hand gripping her neck loosened.
"...You're really something!"
Axel suddenly laughed. When he said this, his tone didn't sound angry - it almost sounded like praise.
Bianca had truly witnessed his ruthlessness and unpredictability. She was scared to death inside, but she knew that to survive, she couldn't show weakness. She had to stay calm.
"Mr. Stevens, don't blame me for this. I'm just trying to survive. You've lived on the edge yourself - you must understand what I mean."
Bianca said, playing innocent.
"You staying here is too dangerous. Plus, you're a ticking time bomb. I won't allow anything that threatens me to exist."
Axel said.
Bianca's heart sank.
He had already let her come here - what did these words mean?
