Chapter 430: Not Listening to Advice
"Dad, why? Zoey's about to become part of our family. You never stopped us from spending time together before. What's changed? I'm getting better now, and it's all thanks to what Zoey did for me."
Veda completely ignored Soren's words, immediately jumping to Zoey's defense.
Seeing Veda still being so foolish at a time like this, Soren was furious.
If he had known Veda would turn out this naive, they wouldn't have spoiled her so much back then.
Failing to teach her how to judge right from wrong and read people was also a kind of disaster.
"You suffered this time because of her. If Zoey hadn't been egging you on from behind, you and Emily had no grudges before. There was no reason for her to get in your way. After all, even though Emily married Daniel, she's someone without connections, which would actually make it easier to get benefits from her."
Soren spoke earnestly, analyzing the situation for Veda.
Veda fell silent.
What Soren said seemed to make some sense.
But asking her to get along well with Emily, to befriend her.
Just imagining that scene made her shake her head.
"Dad, maybe Emily and I just naturally don't get along. I disliked her from the first moment I saw her. So even without Zoey, I could never peacefully coexist with someone like Emily. Don't blame everything on Zoey."
Veda had her own logic.
Seeing that nothing he said was getting through to her, Soren grew anxious.
His tone became sharper.
Veda had just recovered and was temperamental, so Soren's attitude made her explode in anger.
The two ended up arguing without realizing it.
Finally, Veda pretended to feel faint and weak, immediately forcing Soren to back down.
A father who loves his daughter - if he has a sensible and grateful daughter, it's fortunate for both. But if he has a disobedient daughter who even schemes against her own parents, that's a disaster.
Soren had no choice but to firmly order, "In any case, I won't allow you to be too close with Zoey anymore, and you're not to do anything she asks you to do."
With that, he left in a huff.
Veda stamped her feet in anger. "I won't listen! Dad, you can't do this, controlling everything, even who I can be friends with. How can you be so domineering? I'm never listening to you again, you hear me?"
She shouted after him.
But this time, Soren didn't even look back. After leaving the room, he had the butler assign two bodyguards to watch the door.
He also instructed the household staff to monitor her every move.
Veda had originally planned to go out later and personally handle some business.
But when she opened the door, two bodyguards immediately blocked her way.
"Ms. Veda Smith, sorry, but Mr. Soren Smith has instructed us not to let you leave. You need to rest at home."
"What if I insist! You dare to stop me?"
Veda tried to resist.
But it was useless.
She glared at them both, but they still didn't budge.
Finally, with no choice, she went back to her room.
She rolled around on the bed, thinking about what to do.
Suddenly she remembered a business card she'd received a long time ago.
She sat up immediately, her eyes lighting up.
Dad didn't think that just because she couldn't leave, she couldn't get things done, did he?
Although Veda's freedom was restricted, her contact with the outside world hadn't been cut off.
She immediately sat up and searched for that business card, looking at the contact information on it.
Then she dialed a number.
"Hello, Veda, I'm so happy you're calling me." It was Tyrell Baldwin from the Baldwin family in their social circle.
He had always liked Veda, but his status wasn't high enough, his abilities were average, he was playful, and a bit overweight.
Veda didn't like him at all. She only occasionally paid attention to him when she needed something, getting Tyrell to do things for her.
This time, she still felt Tyrell was the most useful.
"Cut the nonsense. I have something for you to do. Are you willing or not?" Veda had always treated Tyrell with this superior attitude.
She just saw him as someone who liked to please her.
But as long as she was willing to call him, Tyrell felt he still had a chance of winning Veda over.
"Yes, yes, yes! Veda, you know I like you. For you, I'd do anything."
Tyrell immediately agreed with a smile.
Not forgetting to confess his feelings.
Veda was dismissive.
"Stop being gross, really..." She didn't say the word "disgusting," changing direction mid-sentence. "You're doing well. Now, follow my instructions. I'll give you a contact. You reach out to them. At tomorrow's engagement party, I want you to get someone to grab Nathaniel and teach him a lesson."
"Nathaniel?"
Tyrell was unfamiliar with this name.
Veda frowned, somewhat disdainfully. "I'll send you a photo later. Use it to find the person. He's a relative of my family. Remember, do this discreetly. You'd better not expose your identity - change your voice or something. Anyway, if they ask who you are, just say my dad told you to do it."
"This isn't hard to do, don't worry about that. But why use your father's name? If something really goes wrong and Mr. Smith finds out I used his name, you and I will really have no chance."
Tyrell hesitated.
He still held hope of marrying Veda, because she had once said she was watching his performance, and if he did well, she might give him a chance.
But pleasing Veda was already difficult. Doing this and also having to get past Soren would be even harder.
"Are you stupid? My dad didn't actually do this, so even if they trace it back to my father later, it's just slander. You and I will both be safe. My dad is from the Smith family - not just anyone can slander him."
What a fool Veda was.
She didn't think there was any problem with this at all.
After hearing Veda's analysis, Tyrell thought about it and it seemed to make some sense.
"Veda, okay, I'll do as you say. Don't worry."
Only then did Veda relax. "Just go do it. If you do this well, I'll give you a chance and go on one date with you."
Tyrell was immediately fired up. "Veda, okay, I promise I'll do this well."
Only then did Veda hang up satisfied.
After hanging up, Tyrell installed voice-changing software on his phone.
Then he dialed the number Veda gave him.
Following Veda's requirements, he negotiated a deal with the other party.
However, they weren't asking for a small price.
This forced Tyrell to figure out how to get money from his family.
Tyrell's mother doted on him and never skimped on his expenses, so when he suddenly asked for money again, she couldn't help but ask with concern, "What have you been doing lately? Why don't you have enough money? Tell me honestly, you haven't picked up any bad habits, have you?"
While she spoiled him, she was most afraid of Tyrell getting into things he shouldn't.
Tyrell acted cute. "Mom, where's your mind going? Don't worry, I'm pursuing your daughter-in-law. You know Veda's status - I'm preparing a gift for her, so naturally it can't be cheap. If you care about me and don't want me to die alone, you can't stop me!"
"Okay, I won't stop you, I won't! I couldn't support you more!"
Tyrell's mother couldn't stand seeing Tyrell's sad face, and she was even more afraid he'd really die alone, so she quickly agreed.
Tyrell got his way and soon received a million dollars in spending money.
And so, a plot against Nathaniel began to unfold. He had no idea yet.
Of course, Emily and Daniel didn't know either that Veda would go this crazy.
