Chapter 387 These People Might Have Done Bad Things
"Okay, I'll take it from here. You don't need to worry about it anymore!"
Emily nodded.
She walked straight in.
The bar manager gave the staff member guarding the surveillance room a look, and the guy immediately understood, standing up to give up his seat.
After that, the bar manager didn't stick around. He had the staff member wait outside the door in case Emily needed anything, so they could handle it or report back right away.
Of course, there was another reason - to make sure the staff member kept Emily safe.
He left to call Knox.
Knox soon received the call from the bar manager, who told him everything in detail.
Thinking about how the bar manager hadn't helped Emily, his expression darkened.
That cold aura - even over the phone, the bar manager could feel it.
He didn't hide anything. He knew Knox would definitely be angry after hearing what happened.
But he didn't dare hide anything either. If Knox investigated on his own and found out he'd concealed something, the consequences would only be worse than now.
"Mr. Green, I'm sorry. It was my mistake. I didn't help Ms. Johnson, and instead tried to keep the peace."
The bar manager immediately apologized.
Knox's expression was unreadable, his voice revealing neither pleasure nor displeasure. "You should be grateful you helped Emily in the end. She's kind-hearted and understands how hard it is for you staff members. She won't hold it against you. I'll let it slide this time, but if there's a next time, I have no place for someone like you.
People like Sterling and Wilder - that wasn't the first time they've harassed girls, was it? People like that, when you encounter them, should be thrown out forcefully the first time, and never allowed in my bar again. Understand?"
He might be ruthless, but he really didn't stoop to doing such things.
Emily understood him - he was just someone with principles and rules like that.
So in her heart, she thought so highly of him.
Knox thought about this and couldn't help but smile with pleasure.
Emily naturally had no idea that Knox was so easily pleased by this in his mind.
Right now, she was staring seriously at the surveillance footage.
Unfortunately, she didn't see Sterling and Wilder having any interaction with anyone suspicious.
But one thing was certain - someone behind the scenes had instructed them to target her.
Because after they entered the bar, they headed straight for where she was.
Whether she'd been low-key or not at the time, the result would have been the same.
Just as Emily was about to leave, she caught a glimpse of two familiar faces.
One was Zoey's.
The other was Raina's.
She and Daniel had personally gone to Raina's room to investigate and knew there was something off about Raina, but they'd been too busy and hadn't had time to deal with Raina's situation yet.
Now thinking about it, why were these few people all somewhat connected to drugs?
Now that these two were together, and Zoey was connected to Axel from Emerald City, could it be possible that Raina was also connected to him?
She should follow this lead and investigate.
Zoey had gone into a private room with a group of people and hadn't come out.
Whether this had anything to do with her couldn't be completely confirmed yet.
Emily thought for a moment, had the bar manager prepare a server's uniform, and planned to test things out.
When she carried drinks into the room, with the dim, swaying lights and her deliberate disguise, even people who knew Emily didn't recognize her right away.
When Emily left, she deliberately didn't close the door completely.
She had sharp hearing - pressing against the door, she could faintly hear the conversation inside.
"Zoey, does this stuff really make that much money? Where'd you get it? I heard this stuff feels amazing - is that true? Why don't we try it!"
"Try what? Do you even know what this stuff is? You dare try it? Got a death wish? We're making money off other people, not letting other people make money off us, got it?"
Then came Zoey's voice.
Emily heard them mention "this stuff" and frowned slightly.
A suspicion was forming in her mind.
But could these people really be that bold?
She could actually burst in right now, and if it was confirmed to be that stuff, this whole group would probably end up at the police station. But given the King family's background and these people's family backgrounds, without catching them in an actual transaction, and since from their conversation they hadn't touched the stuff yet, a drug test probably wouldn't show anything, they likely wouldn't face any serious punishment later.
And right now, it was just her suspicion - nothing confirmed yet.
So Emily kept listening without rushing in.
The conversation inside continued.
"Zoey, once shouldn't be a problem, right? Life's just so boring. I heard this stuff makes you feel happy, like you're living in a dream. We just want to experience it, just once!"
"Yeah, Zoey, we'll just try it the first time, and didn't you say the dose you're giving us is small?"
Of course, there were also the more obedient ones with less courage.
"My family's warned me over and over not to touch this stuff, and Zoey said not to touch it either. We better not try it, I'm scared!"
"You've always been a coward. If you're a man, you can't say you're scared!"
...
They started arguing among themselves.
Zoey checked the time. "Enough, stop talking. Listen to me. I can light it up and let you smell it from far away, but you can't touch it means you can't touch it. Also, someone go find Raina. She's been gone so long, she didn't just leave and not come back, did she?"
She actually didn't like Raina at all.
Although Raina had always been quite useful, Raina's calm and composed demeanor always made her seem particularly stupid by comparison.
Zoey could only say she wasn't smart enough and got irrational when it came to Daniel, but she was occasionally quite clever.
After all this time, how could she not have noticed at all that Axel didn't trust her as much as he trusted Raina?
Which just goes to show, Zoey really was foolish.
For something Axel had assigned, she got personally involved.
Even if Raina knew about it, she didn't show her face or get involved. Even if something really happened later, Raina could probably walk away clean.
Emily heard someone was about to come out and quickly turned around.
The person reached the door, and when pulling it open, immediately noticed the door hadn't been closed properly. He quickly pulled it open and looked alertly up and down the hallway.
He only saw Emily's figure in a server's uniform in the distance.
"What's wrong?"
Zoey also heard his sudden surprised voice. Seeing him looking around at the doorway, her expression changed slightly, and she asked urgently.
"Should be nothing. The door just wasn't closed properly, so I was checking to see if anyone was eavesdropping. But it should be fine, didn't see anyone suspicious!"
As for the server, this was the private room area, so of course there would be servers passing by to bring drinks to guests.
So he didn't suspect too much.
Hearing this, Zoey also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Then it's fine, but from now on when closing or opening the door, check it just in case!"
Zoey still gave a serious warning.
Emily wasn't scared, just glad she'd walked away quickly and apparently hadn't been discovered.
She didn't leave right away, but first went to find the bar manager.
