Chapter 169: Nowhere to be found
“Yes, I want to know, Adrian. I’m curious because you went against her. This is the reason I agreed to come see you. I was hoping you would tell me why you did.”
“I voted against her because, just like you and others have said , she doesn’t deserve the position. I recently discovered a lot of things about my mother that made me finally understand why you hate her.”
“Hate her?” Marcel asked.
“Yes. Or don’t you hate her?”
“Of course I do,” Marcel said. “I hate her, but I’m surprised you used the word. It means whatever you found out about her must have been really bad,” Marcel said and observed him.
Adrian nodded “Yes, you are right. It is bad.”
“Did you call me here to tell me about it?”
“Partly. I won’t tell you everything now, and that is just part of why I called you.”
“Okay. What other reason do you have?”
“I wanted to tell you that I have a lot of regrets regarding our relationship as brothers. I regret not getting to know you well, Marcel. I regret being in competition with you and us always fighting because I was listening to my mother and letting her deceive me. She had made us become enemies. I sincerely wish things were different between us.”
Marcel was silent. This came as a surprise to him. He did not think Adrian would admit such a thing. Even he wouldn’t have done what Adrian was doing. He never wanted to get along with Adrian, so it was not just because his mother made them become enemies.
He had hated the idea of having another woman and her son in the house his father and mother built together. And now here was Adrian admitting what he could not admit.
“I know this comes as a surprise, Marcel, but it’s the truth. I wish we were real brothers and not enemies,” he said.
Marcel could not say anything.
Seeing that he did not say anything, Adrian continued.
“I want you to know that I no longer have anything against you, and I wish the best for you, Marcel. I no longer want to be in an unhealthy competition with you or continue to have interest in the things you are interested in. I realize that we are not in the same world, and I do not compare to you, so I can’t compete anymore,” Adrian smiled sadly.
Marcel could see the pure sadness in his eyes, and he became curious as to what he found out about his mother.
“Adrian, I have heard all you said, but do you mind telling me what made you change all of a sudden? Why did you vote against your mother’s, tell me the truth?” Marcel asked.
Adrian relaxed his back in the chair and sighed.
“She had stolen my shares and never told me she had the desire to be chairwoman.”
“Okay… but is that all?” Marcel asked because that couldn’t be the only reason.
Adrian shook his head. “No. There is a whole lot more. But just know that I know she had a hand in your attempted murder.”
“Oh wow. You knew?”
“I just found out,” Adrian said sadly. He could still feel Marcel’s hostility and distance even after all he said, but he understood the reason. It was because Marcel was not sure if he was really being sincere with all he said.
“I see. So you plan on keeping her secret for her? Because if you know a lot about your mother, you should be doing the right thing.”
“I plan to do the right thing, but I wanted to speak to you first. Because this will be the last time we are going to be speaking, Marcel.”
Adrian stood up.
“Know that if I finally get evidence I’m sending her to rot in jail,” Marcel said to him.
Adrian smiled “As you should and like I said, this will be the last time you will be seeing me. And I already said that I plan on doing the right thing. The only thing I want to tell you now is to look for someone called Pascal.”
“And who is that?” Marcel asked.
“He is the person helping my mother in all she has been doing. He had mentioned your uncle. I think he knows your uncle,” Adrian said and walked away.
Marcel was surprised and repeated the name in his head. Adrian knew the name of the person behind his mother and that the person knew him uncle. He could not just let him go without giving him more details.
Marcel immediately ran after him. He ran out of the shop and into the market but lost sight of Adrian.
Marcel searched around and asked people, but no one said they had seen someone like that.
He picked up his phone and called Adrian, but there was no response.
Marcel immediately left there and got into his car. He called Charlie.
“What’s up, Marcel? I’m surprised you remembered my existence today.”
“I want you to track Adrian’s location right now. It’s important.”
“What is wrong?”
“He had asked to see me, and before he left, he mentioned the name of the person behind his mother. He told me he found out a lot of things about his mother. I really did not take him seriously until he dropped a name. Pascal is the name of the person and he said he knows my aunts husband. So, track his location?”
“I’m on it right now,” Charlie said.
Marcel ended the call.
He had to inform the detective so Adrian could be brought in for questioning. His father’s case was still ongoing, so they needed to interrogate him so he could tell them what he knew about his mother.
He called the detective, and the detective also started tracking Adrian quietly.
Hours later Adrian was still nowhere to be found.
The next day
That afternoon, Aurora was having lunch with Sandy in one of the university eateries. Sandy was doing her clearance that day, so Aurora had accompanied her.
After they were done eating, they walked to her car, and Sandy got in. At that moment, Aurora checked her pocket and could not find her atm wallet. She recalled forgetting it inside the eatery.
“What is wrong, Aurora?” Sandy asked her.
“I forgot my atm wallet inside.”
“Oh mine,” Sandy said.
“Just wait here. I will go get it.” Aurora said to her
Sandy nodded.
Aurora was rushing back to the eatery when someone with a hoodie started heading towards her. The person with both hands inside his hoodie and brought out a shotgun to shoot Aurora when Adrian ran out from nowhere then stood in front of Aurora, who was about to get into the eatery and did not notice the person with a gun from afar.
“Adrian?” Aurora called in surprise
“Stay behind me Aurora!!” Adrian screamed
Aurora looked in front of him and saw someone with a gun. Before she could react, the person pulled the trigger targeting Aurora but Adrian covered her and the bullet hit him instead.
“Adrian!!” Aurora screamed in shock.
Seeing that he had missed, the shooter pointed the gun at Aurora again and pulled the trigger..
“Aurora!!” Sandy who was already running towards them screamed.
