Chapter 148: Chapter 148
THE NEXT DAY
I woke up to Marcus' alarm ringing. I had woken up and Marcus, who had set the alarm, wasn't awake yet. I felt a bit of a headache, but it left as soon as I straightened my legs and stretched on the bed.
Marcus was finally awake, followed by Owen. I couldn't believe that I had slept so long. I had slept since evening and I was just waking up in the morning. I knew I had to control the way I slept so that I wouldn't sleep for such long hours.
I was about to get out of bed when my phone rang. Someone was calling. I looked at my phone screen. It was my brother who was calling. I hurriedly picked the call.
“Hello, big bro.”
“Ethan, how are you doing?”
“I'm fine.”
There was a brief pause on the line before my brother spoke again. “I'm planning to drop by your academy and see you. We have a lot to talk about.”
I swallowed hard and felt a bit nervous. I didn't know if my brother would be in support of my new decision and him coming all the way here to talk to me meant that he had something serious to say. I just hoped that he hadn't told Theo about my whereabouts.
“Okay.” I said finally. “I will be expecting you.”
The call ended. I dropped my phone and I felt really nervous after ending the call. I got into the bathroom and tried hard to shake the feeling of nervousness aside. He was my brother. It wasn't like he was some sort of monster that was going to attack me.
I got to the training hall and few people were already gathered there. I had come early. I could see omegas training with their alphas. I guess the arrangement wasn't that bad after all. Not all the alphas wanted to take advantage of the omegas. I saw Owen standing at the corner. I felt sorry for him. He had been paired with Adrian and from the way he described it, Adrian was bullying him. I knew how it felt to be bullied because I had been a victim since my childhood days. Life wasn't easy for an omega. It was almost as if the universe was punishing you for being an omega.
Sir Sebastian arrived in the hall. The noise in the hall died down and later disappeared. Everywhere was quiet. He walked to the front where everyone could see him and he faced us.
He cleared his throat before speaking. “I'm sure that some of you used yesterday to train with your alphas. Today's training will be different from the others. You will be graded for today's training and the scores will be used to screen. Anyone whose scores are bad across all the training will be screened from the academy.”
There were murmurs among the crowd. Lucian held my palm and squeezed it gently as if reassuring me of something.
Sebastian cleared his throat once again and there was silence.
“This message is not given for you to fear. I believe that if everyone works hard, no one will be sent out of the academy.” He glanced at his wristwatch. “You have thirty minutes to warm up and after that, we'd begin the combat in pairs.”
I looked around. I felt sorry for the omegas who had tried their best to get into the academy and some of them might be removed for poor performance. I wished that no one would be removed. Ravenholt was a prestigious academy that almost everyone wanted to go into. Being removed from it was the worst thing that could happen to anybody.
I could understand the administration. They didn't want to have students who weren't trained. They needed to keep only the best students.
Lucian put a hand around my waist. “Are you scared? You really don't have to be. Your fighting skills are pretty good. I doubt you'd get a bad score.”
I smiled at him. I wasn't worried about myself but I was worried for others. Sebastain returned after the thirty minutes expired and omegas began to pair.
The first pair of omegas started. It was Marcus and some other person who I didn't know. Their fight started off good. For about twenty minutes, no one was able to push the other to the floor. I was impressed by Marcus' grip on the floor. It meant that he also knew about the foot grip that Lucian taught me, that when your foot was firm on the floor, you couldn't easily fall off.
Finally, one person was pushed on the floor and it wasn't Marcus. Marcus pushed his opponent down. I was almost forced to clap. Sebastian scribbled something on his clipboard. I couldn't guess the score that he gave them, but I knew he wasn't going to give Marcus' opponent an F just because he was pushed down. His opponent had also fought to a great extent, so he did well too.
The next team came up. They performed poorly than the first. Their hand fights were as if they were playing. I noticed Sebastian shake his head and scribble something down even when they weren't done yet. One succeeded in pushing the other down and Sebastain wrote it down again.
The third batch came out. The fourth batch did the same and they continued with several batches until it got to my turn. I took a deep breath and Lucian gave me a thumbs up that I was going to do fine.
I shut my eyes and played it in my head of how I was going to move. Then the whistle blew and I opened my eyes. I began fighting my opponent. I didn't forget to keep my foot steady on the ground just like Lucian taught. I was focused on pushing my opponent to the floor.
My opponent was quite strong. We sparred for minutes and none of us were able to push the other down. Finally, my opponent lost concentration and I used that opportunity to push him to the ground. I had won. I noticed Sir Sebastain write something down and I hoped it was positive.
