Chapter 27: Reunion 2
The air was heavy with tension as the team sat around a table in their makeshift hideout. Peter’s mind raced, replaying Carly’s revelation over and over. Lucian is my brother? He glanced at Lucian, who sat across from him, arms crossed and face unreadable. Lucian avoided Peter’s gaze, focusing instead on the faint hum of the room’s magical wards.
“We need answers,” James finally broke the silence, his voice firm but careful. “This new guy—whoever he is—didn’t just show up for no reason. And if he’s gunning for both of you, it’s because of Hood Kripson.”
Bella, seated next to Carly, frowned. “The question is, why now? What does he have against Kripson that makes him this... obsessed?”
“Maybe it’s not just about Kripson,” Carly added, her eyes flickering between Peter and Lucian. “It could be about both of you. There’s a reason he’s targeting you two specifically.”
Lucian leaned forward, his voice low and sharp. “We don’t have time for speculation. If this guy is as powerful as he seems, we need to act now. Find him, stop him.”
“And how do you propose we do that?” Bella shot back, her frustration evident. “We don’t even know who he is!”
“We will,” Lucian said simply, his confidence unwavering. “I’ve seen power like his before. It leaves a trail.”
Peter finally spoke, his voice cutting through the tension. “Before we do anything, we need to talk, Lucian. You and I.”
The room fell silent. The others exchanged glances but didn’t object as Peter stood and motioned for Lucian to follow. Reluctantly, Lucian rose from his seat, and the two of them stepped outside into the cool night air.
Peter turned to face Lucian, his expression conflicted. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lucian met his gaze, his own expression guarded. “Because I didn’t know,” he admitted. “I knew Hood was my father, but I didn’t know about you. Not until recently.”
“And you didn’t think I had a right to know?” Peter’s voice rose, anger bubbling to the surface. “You’ve been here, right under my nose, and you said nothing?”
Lucian’s jaw tightened. “I didn’t know how to tell you, okay? What was I supposed to say? ‘Hey, turns out we’re brothers, and our dad is one of the most dangerous wizards alive’? You think that’s an easy conversation to have?”
Peter looked away, the weight of the revelation settling heavily on his shoulders. “This changes everything,” he said quietly. “We’re not just fighting for ourselves anymore. We’re fighting for a legacy we didn’t ask for.”
Lucian nodded, his voice softening. “I know. But that doesn’t mean we can’t choose what to do with it.”
The two stood in silence for a moment, the tension between them easing slightly. Whatever differences they had, they were in this together now.
Back inside, the rest of the team was strategizing. Carly had pulled out a map of the city, marking locations where magical disturbances had been reported in the past week. “If this guy is as powerful as we think, he’ll need a stronghold,” she explained. “Somewhere he can channel his energy without interference.”
Bella pointed to a mark near the outskirts of the city. “What about here? It’s close to where we first encountered him.”
James shook his head. “Too obvious. He’d know we’d check there.”
“What about the abandoned industrial district?” Carly suggested. “It’s remote, lots of places to hide.”
Peter and Lucian reentered the room, their earlier tension replaced by a newfound understanding. “The industrial district makes sense,” Peter said, catching the tail end of the conversation. “If he’s hiding, he’ll want somewhere he can set traps. Somewhere we’re not familiar with.”
Lucian nodded in agreement. “And if he’s smart, he’ll have wards up to detect us before we get close.”
“Then we’ll need to be smarter,” James said, a determined grin spreading across his face. “No offense, but this guy doesn’t seem like the type to play fair.”
As they finalized their plan, Carly couldn’t shake the feeling that this fight was going to be different. This wasn’t just about survival—it was about uncovering the truth. And if her visions were right, that truth was far more dangerous than any of them realized.

The team arrived at the industrial district under the cover of night. The air was thick with an unnatural stillness, as if the very city was holding its breath. They moved cautiously, their senses heightened. Lucian led the way, his experience with wards proving invaluable as he identified and disarmed several along their path.
“This place gives me the creeps,” Bella whispered, her voice barely audible.
“Good,” James replied with a smirk. “Means we’re in the right place.”
They reached an old warehouse, its windows shattered and its walls covered in graffiti. Lucian held up a hand, signaling for them to stop. “He’s here,” he said, his voice low. “I can feel it.”
Peter stepped forward, his magic simmering just beneath the surface. “Let’s finish this.”
Inside, the warehouse was a labyrinth of shadows and broken machinery. The team moved silently, their eyes scanning every corner. Suddenly, the air shifted, and the scarred man appeared before them, his expression cold and unyielding.
“Bold of you to come here,” he said, his voice echoing through the space. “But bravery won’t save you.”
Peter stepped forward, his magic flaring. “We’re not here to save ourselves. We’re here to stop you.”
The man laughed, the sound chilling. “Stop me? You don’t even know what you’re up against.”
Lucian joined Peter’s side, his own power igniting. “Then why don’t you show us?”
The battle that followed was unlike anything they’d faced before. The man’s power was immense, his attacks relentless. But the team fought as one, their bond stronger than ever. Carly and Bella worked together to shield the others, their spells weaving a protective barrier. James used his agility to outmaneuver their opponent, landing precise attacks when he saw an opening.
Peter and Lucian were the heart of the fight, their combined power forcing the man to retreat. For the first time, he looked uncertain, his confidence wavering.
“You think you’ve won?” he spat, his voice filled with venom. “This is only the beginning.”
With a final burst of energy, he disappeared, leaving behind a promise of more chaos to come.
As the team regrouped, Peter looked at Lucian, a hint of a smile on his face. “Looks like we make a good team.”
Lucian smirked. “Don’t get used to it.”
But there was no denying the bond between them. For the first time, Peter felt like he truly understood what it meant to be part of something bigger. And as they left the warehouse, he couldn’t help but wonder what other secrets their pasts might hold.
