Chapter 13: .
Selene's pov
From the second I stepped onto the school premises, I sensed eyes hovering over my body
It wasn't the usual 'look at Brooklyn's high school freak' kind of stare
It's the kind of stare that makes one's stomach rumble in nervousness.
It was strange, what was more strange was Ethan's attitude back in the house when I greeted him.
He was probably upset that I kissed him last night, after calling me an amateur kisser, I should be the one offended not him.
Now, he's back to being the annoying jerk he's always been.
I settled down on my chair and brought some of my books out when my ears picked up some gossip from behind.
"I heard he snapped Jack's neck and Jack might not survive." One girl started.
She tried to keep her voice low, but the excitement made it high-pitched.
"Total lies, I was there and had beaten the crap out of Jack." Another commented
"Why would he do that though? The two of them are like best friends and super hot, now Jack looks terrible."
"I heard it's because of a girl, the two of them fought over a girl at the party." Someone chirped in.
I shifted uneasily on my chair, that wasn't what happened. How are different versions of the story flying about in the school?
"Don't you girls have better things to do than gossip?" Becca shouted from the doorway
Chairs creaked and scooted across the ground as the girls dispersed
I was grateful that Becca showed up, I couldn't take another round of their lies.
I gave her an appreciative smile, but she Ignored me completely and made for her seat.
I guess she's angry too.
Suddenly, my heart started racing
Did she spot Ethan and me leaving the room while she pretended to be asleep?
No wonder she's mad
We were suddenly getting off to a good start and I ruined it
I'll have to explain things to her after class.
All through the class, Becca returned to her cold self, and every attempt to get her attention proved abortive.
When the class ended, she was the first to leave the class.
I tried to follow her, but got blocked by others who were trying to go out at the same time.
Pushing through the number of people at the door, I managed to step out, just in time to see her entering the sick bay.
I followed her, not out of curiosity about what she was doing, but to get the chance to speak with her alone.
Her back was to me when I entered the sick bay.
I almost called her, then stopped myself when I saw Jack lying down in one of the beds.
I inched closer quietly and hid behind the curtains.
"Why didn't you lock the door? Didn't you know anyone could have walked in?" Becca sounded furious.
"I thought you were keeping Ethan occupied, how would I have known he'd waltz in like that? Jack groaned in pain.
They were talking about the incident, and I leaned in close to the curtain.
"You had one job to do Jack, just one job, I drugged that silly girl enough to make her body limp and you ruined it" Becca hissed
"I'm sorry, we will get another shot"
"There is no other shot, Ethan made certain of it already"
I covered my mouth from screaming, I was wrong about Becca being friendly.
It was her behind me getting drugged, she set me up with Jack
Jack never had an interest in me, it was all a ruse to get me to his bed.
Ethan was right about him.
I tried to slip out and quietly as I came in, one step backwards and I messed up my steps.
I came crashing into the curtain and out in full view for Becca and Jack to see
Becca stood straight, no streak of guilt in her getting caught
"If it isn't Selene Greasely, spying on us, I never knew you were a gossip freak too." She smiled wickedly
I stood up straight, not afraid that I would get caught.
"You should drop the act, Becca, I heard everything. It was you. Why would you set up something so terrible for me?"
I tried to sound angry, but I was hurt.
Not because I thought of her as a friend, but because she could come up with something terrible for me.
"Isn't it obvious? I hate your guts and you're just too gullible. It's annoying" She said without remorse.
I looked at Jack whose eyes were clamped shut and swollen black.
He deserved it and more.
"Did you think of how Ethan would react when he finds out you're behind this?" I asked her.
Becca giggled humorously. "Please, who's going to tell him? You?
Darling, remember what happened last time, he would not believe a word you tell him."
My mind flashed to the last episode of Becca framing me for hurting her and Ethan taking her side.
It didn't deter me.
"We'd see about now, nothing will stop me from revealing your evil and manipulative ass."
"You should stop her." Jack muffled from the bed.
Becca crossed her arms under her breast, and she didn't look the least scared.
"No, let her go."
I turned on my heels and went in search of Ethan .
He needs to know what kind of person his girlfriend is.
I searched everywhere for him, but I couldn't find him.
I even went to the hockey rink, the sure place he'd be, until I heard one of the players say he was at the principal's office
Ethan was sitting outside the principal's office, with his head bent.
I don't understand why he was here, he never gets punished for things like this.
"Ethan !" I called
He looked up and frowned at me
"You shouldn't be here" He growled
"Leave, now."
"Wait, there's something you need to know." I tried to get him to listen.
A man who looks like the older version of Jack came out of the office looking really stern, with an officer by his side.
He pointed at Ethan .
"Arrest him"
