Chapter 12

**KAIA**

We started unpacking our stuff and filled up the closet. After settling in, we went back downstairs to help Amy's mom make dinner.

"Hey Dad? Is the lake safe for swimming?" Amy asked after we both took a bar stool by the kitchen counter to sit on.

"Yeah, it is. Feel free to go for a swim whenever you like."

"Cool." Amy replied and reached towards the counter, plucking a grape from the bowl.

A loud engine sound came from outside, and Amy and I immediately shared a confused glance before walking over to the floor-to-ceiling window to check it out.

A black Toyota Hilux pulled up outside the house. The doors opened, and my heart dropped when I saw the person who stepped out of the driver's side.

"What the hell is he doing here, Dad?" Amy yelled at her father.

Gabriel came and joined us by the window, and we watched Adrian stand outside the vehicle with another person that he also came with.

"He said he cancelled." Gabriel said, and Amy started to scowl at him.

"Make him leave!"

"I can't do that, Ames; he's already here. With his friend."

I turned back to look outside and glared at Adrian, smiling and laughing with his guy friend as they started to retrieve duffel bags from the car and headed up to the house.

Amy stormed off to greet them outside, and I slowly followed with Gabriel.

"Don't you have a game tomorrow?" She asked from the front deck, and the boys looked up at her.

"Cancelled," Adrian replied. "The hockey committee wanted all the players to have an enjoyable long weekend too."

Amy scoffed while folding her arms together.

Then slowly, Adrian's eyes shifted over to mine, and his face completely changed, and I caught his jaw clenched.

"What is she doing here?" He asked Amy, but he was still looking at me.

"I invited her to come."

"This was supposed to be family time for us, Amy." He said before turning to glare at her.

"So I can't bring a friend, but you're allowed to?"

"Nate's family. Mom and Dad have known him for a long time now. She's a stranger." He snapped before pinning his glare on me.

I clenched my fists tightly and glared back at him.

I knew this was going to be a bad idea.

"Don't be an ass, Adrian." Gabriel suddenly said it from behind me. "Your friends and Amy's friends are more than welcome to join us. Now are you going to come in or just camp out there?"

A minute had passed until his friend Nate decided to take the lead and enter the house. Amy followed, and so did Gabriel, leaving Adrian and me in our glaring contest outside.

Then slowly, he started walking up to the porch, and his tall frame towered over mine as we both faced each other at the doorway.

"If you're expecting an exciting long weekend, then you will be very disappointed. I am not thrilled to have you here, and I will spend every second of the day reminding you of that. You'll end up wishing you were back in your little dorm room reading a stupid book." He growled in my face.

"It's already less enjoyable with you existing and breathing the same air as I am." I responded, matching his cold tone.

"Good." He stated firmly.

He brushed past my shoulder and entered the house. I swiftly turned around and glared daggers at his back.

"Would it kill you to apologize?"

He stopped, and I heard him chuckle before turning back around to see me.

"Keep refreshing those emails. It's never going to happen."

He answered with a mocking smile before walking away. It struck me as odd that he still remembered what I said to him at the bonfire party, about learning a proper apology and then emailing it to me.

But seeing his annoying face and remembering what he did, it cleared all thoughts away from my head and replaced them with murderous ideas instead.

If he thought he was going to ruin this for me too, then he's in for a surprise, because I will play dirty to make him miserable too throughout this long weekend.

**OoO**

The next morning, after I finished with my skincare routine, I left the room and went downstairs in case Mrs. Levont needed any help with breakfast.

Amy was still fast asleep, and there was no doubt she would be waking up soon because the girl was not a morning person.

I walked down the staircase and was greeted with a sweet aroma in the air. I glanced towards the kitchen area and found Mrs. Levont standing beside the stove, talking to Adrian's friend, Nate, who was sitting on a counter-height stool facing her.

Mrs. Levont looked up and saw me descending the staircase, and her face lit up with a smile.

"Morning, sweetie. Sleep well last night."She asked cheerfully, and I returned the smile.

"Yeah, I did. The room was very nice, Amy, and I loved it."

She grinned, and I pulled out a stool and sat next to Nate, who immediately smiled at me.

"Hi." He greeted me softly.

"Hey."

"Just give me a minute, darling; I'll fix you a cup of coffee too." Mrs. Levont said, and I happily nodded.

I glanced towards the breakfast she had already prepared and served on the countertop. My mouth immediately watered at the sight before me.

She made sandwich toast, fried eggs, and bacon with side avocados. Plus, fresh lime juice is already prepared on the side.

"What's your major?" Nate asked after taking a sip of his coffee

"What's your major?" Nate asked after taking a sip of his coffee.

"Um, Business English in Marketing and Sales." He raised a brow in surprise.

"Nice."

I nodded, and Mrs. Levont suddenly turned back to us, with a piping hot cup of coffee in one hand. She placed it in front of me and smiled.

"Here's your coffee, darling."

"Thank you." I replied with a smile, and just as I was about to reach for it, someone appeared by my side and snatched it within my reach.

"Thanks for the coffee, Mom." Adrian said and slid on the stool, a couple of steps away from Nate and me.

I bit back a frustrated groan and shot him a side glare. Mrs. Levont narrowed her eyes at him too before giving me an apologetic look.

"I'll get you another one, sweetie." She told me, and I shook my head while getting off my seat.

"It's okay, Mrs. Levont. I can do it myself."

She smiled at me, and I walked around the counter to make myself another cup since the asshole here just took mine without asking.

Jerk!
