Chapter 73: The wicked vs wise

Rosia's POV

I make my way to the throne room where I find my mates on their seats with the priests, all kind of scrolls before them. They stayed up all night still trying to find a way to break the blood pact. And from the depressed expressions on their faces one can see they haven't found a solution yet.

Good thing I have. It's funny what desperation and fear can do to someone. It makes one see and think of solutions you wouldn't have considered before. My mates may however not like the solution I have come up with, so I must let them realize that there is no other way out for us first.

"Honey, we were just about to come look for you," King Aeries says, standing up to take my hand. He leads me to the table.

"Why? Have you found a solution?" I ask, though I already know the answer.

"Unfortunately, not yet," Aerion sighs, his voice full of Shame. "We are so sorry for failing you repeatedly."

"We’ve acctually decided it’s best to move you and your family back to Alpha Nolan’s pack for your safety." Aerius informs, his eyes pleading with me to understand. "At least until this is over."

The priest nod in support. "Believe your mates, my lady. Once Cassandra wears the queen’s crown, the law of Avrion gives her powers that not even your mates can't take away. She can decide who is a slave and who is free. She might target your family the moment she wears the queens crown."

Silence follows as they wait for me to agree.

"I'm not going anywhere," I say, my voice firm. "And neither is my family. I won’t take them back to the hell they just escaped."

"Rosia, please," Aeries begins, "This is not what we want either but we are concerned about your safety and that of your family."

"But what if there is another way?" I ask. "One you haven't considered."

They all look at me, their tired eyebrows rising in surprise. I turn to the priest.

"What happens if my step sister makes the exact same vows she made with the my mates, but she makes them with someone else and seals them with blood?"

The priest looks stunned for a moment before speaking. "Then she would be entering a new blood pact. And also by doing so, she would technically be breaking the vows she made to the Kings." He explains. "But I don't see why your sister would willingly enter into another blood pact with someone else willingly as it would destroy all she's earned."

"She won't do it willingly," I say, looking at my mates. "She’ll do it because we’ll trick her into doing it. During the coronation, she has to pledge her love and loyalty to you as her kings and husband and to the kingdom too, right? And she has to seal that promise with her blood?"

"Yes," Aerion answers.

"We'll sneak the exact wording of your blood pact vows into her pledges," I explain. "But we'll use someone else blood. She’ll think she’s just swearing the oath to you. But instead she'll be swearing to another person."

"That sounds like it would definitely work!" Aeries exclaims his face lighting up. "She would be bound to the new blood owner and she will have broken the vows she made to us. We would be free, right?" he adds looking at the priest for his approval.

"Yes, your majesty. Your mate's plan sounds . . . extremely brilliant! " The priest praises.

"But who would give us their blood?" Aerius asks. "Who would volunteer to be tied into a blood pact with that witch forever?"

"Lucas," I say.

The room goes silent.

"I visited him," I continue. "He’s a beast. He cannot speak or function well, so he can't say no, and he’s not himself. We'll use his blood. And the moment your blood pact with Cassandra is broken we can kill her to free Lucas from the new blood pact."

The Kings look at each other. They seem to be considering if Lucas is our best shot.

"I would also suggest that you make it look like you now like her. It will be easier to fool her when she trusts you." I tell.

"How are we supposed to make her believe that I now want her when she knows very well that we don't? " Aerius questions.

"From the conversation I had with her yesterday, she still believes that one day you'll grow to like her as you did before. She will believe every word you say because she is desperate to have you," I answer.

" I still doubt she'd believe a word that comes out of our mouths?" Aeries says, looking furious that they have to do this.

Of course saying intimate things to your enemy is not just hard but disgusting as well. But it seems to me like it's the only way.

"You must make her believe that your thoughts and feelings are genuine. You must confess a good reason why you're choosing to betray me. Tell her that I am a weak human that never deserved to be your queen and you now are willing to accept her as your wife and queen." I suggest.

"That's not true. You're the smartest and strongest woman we have ever met. Not even our mother was as you as you're," my mates differs.

"The point is to make her believe without doubt that you hate me. The truth doesn't matter," I answer.

"Still it disgusts me to say such lies about you," Aerion complains before leaning closer to place a kiss on my cheek. "We promise you a life of bliss once this problem is behind us," he whispers.

I know there is nothing like a happy ever after. Not in this world at least. Troubles will always arise. But it's good to not point that out now. What I actually value most is their company.

"Thank you in advance," I say.
