Chapter 38: Mr. Fu's Waiting for You Somewhere Else

Xu Zijin had been blind for almost a year. She always told herself that it was not bad to be blind because out of sight was out of mind. But she knew clearly how desperate she was. Every day she opened her eyes, she saw nothing but the darkness. Her heart was filled with fear and panic. She felt as if numerous ants were biting her heart and trying to eat her up bit by bit. The thought that she might be blind forever tormented her day and night.

Xu Zijin was never a strong woman. She needed to be protected.

"Congratulations, Miss Xu. The operation was a success. You have regained your sight. But you should protect your eyes well from now on."

A strange voice came from behind and brought Xu Zijin back to her senses. She finally remembered that there were other people in the room. She hid her delight and tried to calm herself down.

She took a deep breath, looked around the ward and knitted her brows. "Where is Fu Chen?"

Xu Zijin suddenly recalled Fu Chen's aberrant behaviors last night, and got an uneasy feeling.

"Miss Xu, Mr Fu is not here."

"Then where is he? I want to see him right now." Xu Zijin was anxious to see Fu Chen at once. Now she recovered her sight and was able to go anywhere she liked. So wherever he was, she would go to him.

"Please calm down, Miss Xu."

Xu Zijin couldn't control her emotions at all. She turned around and was going to leave the ward.

Just then, the door was pushed open from the outside.

A strange man walked in.

When he saw the vacant look on Xu Zijin's face, he explained in a respectful way, "Hello, Miss Xu. I'm Mr. Fu's assistant, Mawson.

Xu Zijin bit her lower lip and asked loudly, "Where is Fu Chen? I want to see him."

"Please calm down, Miss Xu. I'm here to take you to see Mr. Fu. In order to celebrate your recovery, Mr. Fu has prepared a surprise for you."

His words relieved Xu Zijin somewhat. She was always afraid that Fu Chen was just her imaginary lover who never existed in reality.

Xu Zijin complained in a low voice, "What's Fu Chen up to? He's so mysterious." She followed Mawson out of the hospital.

Mawson took Xu Zijin to a styling studio first in which she spent the whole afternoon in dolling herself up. The make-up artist did her hair, made up her face and asked her to try on one dress after another.

It was really a hassle to pick out the one which suited her best. She was exhausted in the end.

When she was all dressed up, she looked at herself in the mirror with mixed feelings. Now she was no longer the woman she looked like a few hours ago. She had perfect hair and perfect makeup, looking beautiful and distinguished.

Xu Zijin used to be the first young lady of note in Jiang City. Now she looked as pretty and dazzling as before.

Since she lost her sight, she had always worn loose hospital gowns and no makeup, with her hair hanging loose over her shoulders, like a slovenly middle-aged woman.

However, when she put on the fine makeup and beautiful dress, she felt as if she had gone back to the past. The bad memories, which had been suppressed in the bottom of her heart for a long time, surged forth and filled her mind.

Xu Zijin became increasingly restless. She didn't like what she looked like now because such a delicate and beautiful face was like a mask hiding her sadness, misery and tragedy. However, the past experience was like a hideous nightmare imprinted on her memory, and she would never forget it.

She didn't know what Fu Chen wanted to do. Had it not been for her trust in Fu Chen, she would have tried every means to run away. After leaving the styling studio, she was still restless and agitated. She sat in the car with her eyes closed and remained silent.

She suddenly realized that Fu Chen was not an ordinary man.

He had had the chief stylist of CE company dress her up and bought her the latest haute couture and expensive jewelry. Even this car was a limited-edition Maybach. Thus it could be seen that he must be powerful man...

The more she thought, the more uneasy she was. Her heart was shrouded by an uneasy sense of foreboding.
