Chapter 14: Did I Say Something Wrong?

Emma and Alan exchanged glances, the same name popping into both their minds at once: Evelyn.

Emma still clearly remembered how Evelyn had torn up her mother's photo before.

Looks like this time, she still hasn't learned her lesson.

After getting hurt by Marcus, Evelyn still chose to cause trouble behind the scenes!

Even though she was mentally prepared, the moment Emma got out of the car, she was so angry her hands were shaking.

The studio that had been taking shape was now destroyed - windows smashed, the door splashed with red paint! Death threats and threatening words were scrawled everywhere! Even the expensive computers and equipment inside were all smashed to pieces - nothing was left intact!

"Damn it! Is Evelyn sick or what!"

Alan roared, his eyes red as he ran to the office area searching for any documents that might have survived.

Emma stood there, looking at the carefully arranged studio now in complete ruins, the anger inside her exploding.

She hadn't even gone to settle the score with Evelyn yet.

But Evelyn had already created trouble for her first!

"My files! All destroyed! They're absolutely shameless!"

After searching and finding nothing, Alan sat down hard on the floor, cursing in anger, "Is Evelyn crazy! She really should be locked up in a mental hospital!"

Mary came running in from outside at that moment.

"Emma, you're here. I just went to the police station and checked the surveillance footage."

She stopped talking, unable to bear seeing this scene again, and even less willing to tell Emma the bad news.

"Just tell me directly, I'm fine."

Seeing her wanting to speak but not daring to, Emma's heart sank, already preparing for the worst.

Sure enough, Mary hung her head in defeat, her voice getting lower and lower.

"The police caught a few thugs. They said they were drunk and are willing to pay compensation and go to jail."

Emma clearly knew these were just scapegoats Evelyn had pushed forward.

But at this point, there really was no evidence to prove Evelyn was behind all this.

"Emma, are you okay? Even if you won't think about yourself, think about the baby in your belly. Don't get angry."

Mary carefully watched Emma's expression.

She said helplessly, "Why don't you guys move to Daniel's place?"

"Would that be okay?" Mary's suggestion was the best option. Their orders here would take at least two months to complete.

If Evelyn kept sending people to cause trouble every time, the project here would never move forward.

But Emma wasn't sure if Daniel would still be willing to help her.

"Speak of the devil, here he comes."

Mary gave Emma a look and gently pushed her.

Emma stumbled back two steps and fell into a warm embrace, her nose catching the scent of sun-dried grass.

A gentle voice came from above her head, "Emma, if I can help you, I'd be very happy."

Emma's face flushed as she quickly pulled away from his embrace. Looking up to meet his burning gaze, she felt a bit embarrassed instead.

"Daniel, what are you doing here?"

"Just passing by." Daniel's eyes stayed on Emma the whole time - not examining or testing, but full of affection.

Mary added from the side, "Right, passing by, from the east side of the city to the west side, then accidentally canceling three meetings, just happened to pass by, right?"

Daniel's gaze remained gentle. He didn't explain, just kept looking at Emma, which made her feel even more awkward.

If he were negotiating terms with Emma, she could tell him clearly without hesitation.

Whether he wanted designs or money.

But this kind of pure help made Emma not know how to repay him.

"You don't need to feel burdened. Of course I'm helping you willingly. When your studio becomes successful later, you must work with us first."

Daniel gave Emma a reason to accept his help.

His eyes caught sight of the destroyed equipment around them, and disgust appeared on his face too.

"Tonight's industry networking event, I'll go with you. Let me protect you, okay?"

He had helped her so much. If she refused now, it would seem like she didn't consider him a friend.

Emma nodded and agreed, "Okay, thank you."

Perfect - at tonight's event, Emma also needed to have a good talk with Evelyn.

The loss of all these things had to be recovered from Evelyn!

At that moment, on the other side at Dawn Blossom Estate.

Evelyn paced back and forth anxiously. She was the one who had sent people to destroy Emma's studio.

But now she was having some regrets.

She had been too impulsive this time. What if Emma complained to Marcus?

Also, today Emma's belly was already so big.

It was definitely Marcus's child.

Evelyn dialed Mabel's number. Over the years, she knew Marcus didn't love her anymore, so she had always tried to please Mabel.

Now that something had happened, Mabel had taken so much from her, she should help her out.

Mabel answered on the second call.

"This is bad, Emma's back, what should we do? She must be back to steal Marcus! And she's pregnant."

A calm voice came from the other end. Mabel trimmed a flower branch, her tone unhurried.

"What's there to panic about? Back then I was able to switch out the birth control pills for vitamins and let her have this child. Now, we just wait for her to give birth, then take the child. Simple."

"But I'm afraid Marcus will find out the truth from back then."

Evelyn bit her lip hard, the panic in her heart spreading continuously.

Seeing Emma this time, the unease and fear in her heart had been magnified countless times.

She knew too well what Marcus's look at Emma meant.

It was the way a man looks at a woman he loves!

"What truth?"

Marcus came back from outside and heard Evelyn saying something fragmentary about truth and Emma.

He walked quickly closer, instinctively feeling she was hiding something from him.

Evelyn hung up the phone in panic, putting on a fake smile, "No, Marcus, I was begging your mother. I want to prepare a proposal ceremony for you. I think our relationship should move to the next level."

Hearing this, Marcus instinctively felt resistant. He backed away, putting distance between himself and Evelyn.

"You don't need to worry about these things. When the time is right, we'll naturally get married."

Evelyn felt uneasy. She grabbed Marcus's sleeve, "Honey, promise me we'll definitely get married, okay?"

Hearing her words, Marcus's mind quickly flashed to Emma's face that he had just seen today - the face he hadn't seen in half a year, but which had become clearer and clearer in his heart.

This time he didn't answer.

Instead, he turned and went upstairs, walking quickly toward his study.

Evelyn's hand dropped weakly to her side. She watched Marcus's retreating figure, and an even more evil idea formed in her mind.

It was all Emma's fault.

If Emma hadn't come back, if Emma had died in that fire.

Then none of today's events would have happened.

So don't blame her for being ruthless.

She absolutely couldn't let Emma's child live. As long as that child existed, she and Marcus would never be possible.

The anxiety in Evelyn's eyes turned to murderous intent as she turned and dialed a number.

"Help me with something. I want Emma to disappear from this world."
