Chapter 11
As Preston walked away, I was trying everything in my power to get myself together. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on slowing my breathing and heart rate down. How could a man turn my body on with just his presence. I never met someone like him and now I know why Charlette wanted to introduce me to him. He is an amazing catch and for some reason he is all I can think about right now. I want him to press me up against the wall with my legs wrapped around his waist and… as I was thinking of what I wanted him to do to me, I was interrupted by the sound of footsteps coming into the kitchen.
“Don’t forget we need the pie, Maisie!” Charlette said nonchalantly as she was looking me up and down. “Someone is hot and bothered.” She said as if she was trying to hide her laugh.
I slowly opened my eyes and saw her standing up against the island in front of me. She was watching my reaction and based on the look on my face she could tell that Preston had me flustered.
“Ya I will grab it and bring it into the dining room” I said trying to even out my voice.
“So.. what do you think of Preston?”
Great she is just getting to the point and not beating around the bush, I thought to myself.
“Good, he is good, very good. I mean he is very nice and charming.”
“Really that’s all you got to say,” she laughs at me as she grabs the pie dish off the counter before I could grab it, “come on let’s take dessert out to everyone before you decide to have a different kind of dessert.
I rolled my eyes at her and followed her into the dining room. I was trying to focus on the pie and not worrying about anyone in particular watching me.
Charlette sat the pie on the table, and I picked up the knife and started cutting it into smaller pieces and putting them on the dessert plates. Faye came over and helped hand out the plates to everyone so they could start digging into their dessert.
“This is amazing!” says Conrad. Everyone else chimed in with a compliment and I politely told everyone thank you.
I just wanted to eat the pie and get out of here so I could start breathing normal again and not worry about Preston and his grey smokey eyes watching every move I make. It wasn’t obvious to anyone else, well at least I didn’t think it was. I just felt self-conscious and knew that once in awhile he would glance out of the corner of his eyes to get a quick glance at me. I of course was doing the same thing too him.
Damm why did he have to be so hot and on top of the good looks he is also a very successful businessman. He is literally the complete package, but that also made me nervous. Was he too good to be true? As everyone finished up and started to say their goodbyes, I politely gave Charlette and her mom a hug and waved to everyone else. I told Faye and Jim to keep the pie and there was no hesitation from Jim.
“O I won’t say no to you leaving the pie here. Thank you, Maisie, I will have to stop into the bakery one of these mornings to have coffee and a chat with the boys.”
“They would love to have you join them.” I said.
“Good, tell them hi for me and please drive safely home.” Jim said as he waved bye to me.
“I will thank you guys again for the dinner, it was very nice to see you guys and to catch up!” I said as I started down the porch.
“Hey, let me help you to your car.” Preston’s voice caught me off guard as I looked over and saw him leaning up against the porch by the stairs.
“O ya sure thanks.” I felt so dumb as I stuttered back at him. But it was hard to think around him. He walked next to me down the stairs and out to the car, our hands accidentally brushing against each other. As I got to the driver’s side door, I stopped and turned around.
“Thank you for walking me to my car and it was very nice to meet you.” I told him as my eyes slowly made their way up his body to his eyes.
You could tell he knew the effect that he was having on me, and I was doing everything in my power to keep myself in check. But the smirk he gave me stopped my breathing and I could hear my heart pounding in my ears.
“You are welcome and I am glad you decided to come over for dinner. It was very nice to finally meet you and I hope that we can get to know each other a little bit better.”
“Yes that would be nice, I would really like that.” I shot back
“Good” he said as he grabbed his phone out of his back pocket. “Here put your number in my phone so I can get a hold of you.”
“Ya sure,” as I took the phone from him and typed in my number. I handed it back and our fingers brushed against each other’s and when I looked into his eyes, the fire burning in them was undeniable.
“Well I better get on the road.”
Preston leaned in and gave me a gentle kiss on the corner of my mouth.
“Drive safe please and I will get a hold of you very soon.”
“Thank you.” I said and hurried and turned around and ducked into the car before he could see the blush taking over my cheeks. He closed my door for me and waved as I pulled out of the driveway.
As I leaned my head back against the headrest, all I could think about was that this is going to be the longest thirty minutes of my life, as I slowly replay the events of dinner repeatedly in my head.
