Chapter 62
"What do you mean, I didn't just leave with her?" He asked, staring back at me with a confused look on his face. But I knew better than to fall for that; he knows exactly what I am talking about.
"You know exactly what I am talking about." My heart was thumping so loudly against my chest at one point, I thought I felt it in my throat. How could Dan let something like this happen? "Honey, you had a nightmare, okay? Please calm down, you're worrying me."
"Stop fooling me," I raised my hand to swat his away, the warmth of his fingers grazing my skin sending a shiver down my spine.
I rose from the bed, my eyes fixed on him, a mix of anticipation and tension hanging in the air as I waited for him to break the silence. "The woman you met at the club, Dan."
"What about her?" He said, standing up from the bed, still with the stupid, confused look etched on his face. "Where were you, just now?" He probably won't tell me where he has been, but I will ask anyway.
"Em, you are not making any sense right now. I need you to calm down; you will stress the baby." I clicked my tongue in annoyance. "Dan, you really want to go that road with me? Pretend like I am losing my mind? That woman that you were with at the club, what was she to you?"
"Why are we talking about this? It happened a long time ago."He pleaded his case, stepping closer and resting his hands gently on my waist, a mixture of guilt and determination in his eyes.
"What do you mean, it happened a long time ago? This happened last week. It matters because I know you were out looking for her with your goons." I said, revealing to him more than I wanted, I softly moved his hand from my waist.
"How do you know that?" I gave him the obvious look, and he sighed, sitting down on the bed. "I just wanted to ask her why she did what she did to me." I rolled my eyes, having a hard time believing this bull.
"Why would you hide that from me? I'm the one who went through shit to rescue you." I said, getting a bit emotional thinking about all the things I had to do to save him. I had to bury a woman because of his recklessness.
"I know, baby. I am sorry for this. I just didn't want to stress you out. You have been under a lot of pressure, with Anna and some other things. But please don't ever think that I have other things going on outside this marriage." He said as he softly kissed my forehead and his index finger under my chin to lift my lips to his.
He is not supposed to apologise, I'm the whole reason why he took off and left. I'm the one who is actually wrong here; I shouldn't have done whatever I had done with his brother. I pulled away from the kiss but kept the intense eye contact.
"Baby, I'm the one who's sorry. Please forgive me for everything, don't blame yourself." It took a lot for me to be able to apologise, I am not very keen on being obedient. "Sssh, it's okay." He shushed me, running his finger on my lips.
He inched closer in front of me, one hand settling instinctively on the curve of my belly, his thumb brushing slow circles over the fabric of my sleeping shirt. I felt wanted delicately.
“You’re beautiful,” he murmured, and the way he said it made my breath catch. I slid my hands up his chest, feeling the steady rise and fall beneath my palms. “Don’t look at me like that,” I teased softly, though I loved it.
“Like what?”
“Like I’m the only woman in the world.”
“I don’t see anyone else.” His mouth found mine before I could answer. The kiss wasn’t rushed. It was warm and deliberate, his lips moving over mine with quiet confidence. One hand stayed at my waist while the other cradled my jaw, tilting my face just enough to deepen the kiss.
I melted into him, my body responding without hesitation. When I parted my lips, he took his time, kissing me slowly, tasting, claiming, but never overwhelming. His palm slid back over my hip, then returned to my belly, protective even as the heat between us built.
I broke the kiss just long enough to breathe. “You sure?” he asked, his forehead resting against mine. I nodded, pulling him back down to me. He kissed me again, firmer this time, his hands guiding me gently toward the bed, every movement unhurried.
I jolted awake to the sound of a bang. I sprang up from my sleeping position and set up. Dan was still snoring beside me, but he stirred as footsteps rushed up the stairs. I shook him, scared that someone might have broken into our mansion and walk into our room with a gun.
"What's wrong?"
"Someone is coming," I said, looking at him with a shaky breath. He quickly leaned over to his side of the bed and took a gun from under the bed, putting in the gun silencer. I looked at him in shock. I have never met anyone more secretive than him.
The person finally reached our room because we heard a loud banging on our door. Dan got up on the bed with his shorts, roughly opened the door with the gun aimed and ready to shoot. "It's me, I'm sorry," Luca said with his hands up in the air, sweating profusely, as he had been running.
"Tyson got shot; he is at the gate. He was waiting for the security to open the gate for him when someone suddenly came behind the vehicle and shot him in the chest." He said, out of breath.
"We need to take him to the hospital; he's losing a lot of blood."
