Chapter 126 Chubby Bunny
Dawnharbor is huge, with deep roots and a rich history - a world-renowned city.
The population here is dense, with wealthy and powerful families everywhere, gang forces deeply entrenched, and various interests woven into an impenetrable web.
The Thornfield family, the Marr family, the Caudill family, the Valeri family, and the Woods family - these are the five most powerful gang families in this city.
Who could the "big shot" Amelia mentioned be?
Countless thoughts churned and collided in my mind.
This person might not be from the five major families.
After all, beyond Dawnharbor, above these five families, there are even more powerful forces.
I looked back at Amelia. She had snatched the bowl back from Adrian, and even though she was already full, she couldn't bear to put it down.
She wasn't wolfing down food like before, but chewing slowly in small bites, as if she wanted to lick every last bit of food from the bottom of the bowl.
I couldn't completely trust her - I knew that clearly.
Amelia was sneaking glances at me. She used to be spoiled and willful, doing whatever she wanted, but now after suffering so much, she'd finally developed some cunning.
I raised an eyebrow and asked, "Weren't you the one bankrolling those killers? How did you end up like this?"
Amelia cursed through gritted teeth, "Those bastards are nothing but ungrateful scum! I gave them so much money every year, and they betrayed me! I curse them all to die horrible deaths - the worse, the better!"
I let her rant for a while and gradually pieced together what had happened.
When she was sixteen, she was still in Silverpine Town. Chaos was the baseline of that small city. Michelle had gotten plenty of money from her lover, so Amelia had cash to spare.
She was good-looking and constantly harassed on her way to school. At first, she kept quiet and paid protection money, but soon she changed her approach - she took the initiative to pay off thugs to protect her.
Most thugs were useless though. Amelia heard them chatting about some capable characters and went to find them herself.
That was typical Amelia - impulsive and reckless, not thinking about consequences.
That's how she met Clarence and Albino.
A year later, Amelia went to Dawnharbor but didn't cut ties with Clarence.
Six months ago, various forces in Dawnharbor started eyeing the emerging Starstream City. The Gambino family also wanted to send someone to check things out, and Amelia, who was close to Lucas, naturally became the most suitable candidate.
Amelia didn't want to go - how could Starstream City compare to Dawnharbor's prosperity?
But she took Clarence's advice and wanted to establish her own secret base in Starstream City. So Clarence brought Albino and a bunch of killers to Starstream City.
Clarence was over ten years older than Amelia. At first, he just saw her as a foolish little girl, took her money, and humored her. Over time, his feelings toward Amelia changed - he wanted to make her his woman.
But Amelia was proud and had met so many rich young men in Dawnharbor. How could she possibly be interested in the crude Clarence?
When Lucas threatened to send Amelia back to Silverpine Town, she went to Clarence, wanting to kidnap Lucas again.
Clarence urged her to give up on Lucas. Amelia cursed him with all kinds of nasty words.
Clarence locked her in his bedroom. Every time they had sex, they both ended up bloody and bruised, making Amelia hate Clarence even more.
When Clarence humbled himself to coax her, she forced him to kneel and apologize. When Clarence got tough, she threatened to drag him down with her.
Clarence's patience and affection wore thin bit by bit. When Amelia once again smashed the food and everything in the room to pieces, Clarence completely lost his patience. He locked her in an abandoned shipping container, giving her only one bowl of water a day and one bowl of oatmeal every three days.
No wonder she looked so starved.
Amelia put down the bowl and wiped her mouth. "I've told you everything you wanted to know. Can I go now?"
"Go?" I laughed. "I spent so many resources bringing you back - I'm not running a charity."
She stuck her neck out defiantly. I added, "Do you think what you told me is worth that much?"
Amelia wasn't willing to give up. "I want to see Lucas!"
I got off the medical vehicle and walked straight to my own car.
Lucas opened the car door, looking at me intently. "Let's go back. The cook has already prepared dinner."
My expression was calm. "Amelia wants to see you."
Like a turtle, Lucas retreated back into the car. "Not seeing her."
In the distance, Amelia tried to come over but was stopped by Alfred.
I ordered Cole, "Take her back and lock her up for now."
"Yes." Cole responded respectfully.
Just as I was about to get in the car, I caught sight of Jacqueline in the distance. I changed direction and walked a few steps toward her. "You're following me - is there something you need?"
"No." Jacqueline stared at me, seeming somewhat unhappy.
"Bella!"
Marcus's call came from behind me, accompanied by the roar of a motorcycle engine.
I turned to look. Marcus was sitting on a silver and black custom motorcycle with sharp, sleek lines - handsome and eye-catching.
He balanced on one foot, pulled out the key after turning off the engine, and took off his helmet, holding it in his hand.
"Marcus, what brings you here?" I asked.
"Nothing much, just riding around." Marcus casually tossed his helmet up and caught it steadily, his gaze sweeping carelessly around until it landed on Jacqueline, where it suddenly stopped.
Jacqueline's face turned bright red.
Her right hand clutched the cross at her chest tightly as she spoke angrily, "Marcus! Do you remember me?"
I looked at her curiously, then at Marcus. They knew each other?
Marcus frowned at first, looking confused. A few seconds later, his brow suddenly smoothed out, his eyes widened, and he looked Jacqueline up and down, his tone full of surprise. "Are you Chubby Bunny?"
I almost choked on my own saliva.
Chubby Bunny? What kind of weird nickname was that!
Wait, why did that sound familiar?
Jacqueline's face looked like it had been set on fire, instantly turning completely red.
She suddenly lifted the hem of her long dress and pulled out two guns from under the puffy skirt, charging at Marcus like a madwoman. "Don't call me Chubby Bunny! Marcus, I'm going to kill you!"
"Don't shoot!" Marcus hastily backed away and dodged. "What's your name again? I can't remember right now."
"Shut up!"
Jacqueline chased him, and the two ran around the motorcycle.
I watched for a while and noticed that although Jacqueline looked fierce, she was only waving the guns around for show, with no intention of actually shooting. I gradually relaxed.
I finally remembered too.
When we were kids, Jacqueline had stayed at my house with her parents for a while. The nickname "Chubby Bunny" was given to her by Marcus.
That was many years ago.
I didn't expect Marcus to recognize Jacqueline at first glance.
