Chapter 6
We can't work with that cloth, that's just it. Octavia said throwing away the cloth June just picked from her wardrobe, she jumped up from the bed and walked to the wardrobe to see what they could wear to the party.
Today was June's birthday party and Octavia had offered to celebrate it for her, it was more of her getting to get drunk and party than even the event itself.
She had invited June over to her house to select any cloth of her choice from her wardrobe as she had just gotten some new clothes last week from a top brand but June was scared and not sure if she could wear such expensive clothes.
June had then insisted to wear what she had but Octavia was not having any of it, she wanted June to look elegant on her special day and if possible for them to even be wearing matching outfits.
"This would look good on you," Octavia said showing her a strapless gown. "I have another color of this gown, so we could wear it together, what do you think?"
"I don't think I can wear that," it was so short, she was sure if she bent down, her undies would reveal itself.
"Why? It's so pretty," Octavia said. She was not planning on backing gown on from wearing this gown, she didn't have any gown that she fancied in her wardrobe right now, and she was planning on inviting Keir so what better way than to wear something seductive?
"You do know I have like stretch marks on the back of my legs right?" June said pointing at her legs reminding Octavia as it seemed she might have forgotten already. It was something she felt insecure about and the reason she always wore trousers instead of skirts and even if she ever wore skirts, it was always long enough.
"When did you start caring about that? I think you are just making silly excuses because you don't want to go to this party."
"I am not."
"You should love your stretch marks and anyone that doesn't love them should go fuck themselves," Octavia said. She also had her insecurities when it came to her body but she had learned over the years to stop calling them insecurities and accept that they were normal.
They were what made her human and society had only made it seem like something was wrong with them when there was nothing wrong with them.
June rolled her eyes at Octavia, she knew Octavia was trying to make her feel better but she wasn't like Octavia. She didn't know how to accept her flaws and she wasn't sure she was ready to even talk at length about them.
"Let me freshen up, then one of the maids will help us with our makeup," Octavia smiled.
June concluded it was Octavia's birthday at this point because her excitement was more than the celebrant and she was sure it was because Keir was going to attend.
"Alright," June smiled back.
While Octavia rushed into the bathroom, June busied herself with arranging the room quickly, they had both made a mess while looking for what to wear and which shoe and purse to match the outfit.
She didn't want the maid eventually coming in to see that her boss was an unkempt person. She placed the clothes back in the hangers and into the wardrobe, she also packed the shoes back into the shoe racks and the jewelry into the jewelry box.
In between, her phone vibrated softly in her pocket as she checked who was calling her by this time, she figured it was her friend and it truly was.
'You forgot to send me the location," she heard her friend say.
"Yeah, I will send it to you right away. Are you inviting your boss?"
"I did but I don't know if she did turn up, you know how she can be about things like this. She is not like your boss who happens to take you as a friend as well."
"Yes, I understand Myra, I will be expecting you."
She was about to disconnect the call when she felt it vibrate in her ear, she removed it to check the caller Id and it was her mother.
"Sure," Myra replied disconnecting the call as June answer her mother's call.
She figured she wanted to wish her happy birthday, Octavia came out of the bathroom tying a towel around her chest, picked up the hair wash gel on the table, and headed back into the bathroom.
"Why haven't you yet sent the money?" was the first thing she heard when she picked up the phone.
"What money?"
"What do you mean what money? Or did you get fired at your workplace? I am late on food supplies, I messaged you this morning why didn't you reply? I even thought you were trying to send the money," her mother nagged.
"I don't have any money with me, the little money I had I used to sort out my house rent and other things."
"But your friend Myra, told me you are celebrating your birthday today, I didn't train you to be a liar June."
"I don't have any money with me, my boss is the one that insisted on celebrating the birthday for me."
"Then you are really lucky, I don't expect you to make a fool of yourself right now, you should be asking her for money at any giver time since she seems to like you."
"What?" June couldn't believe what her mother was saying right now.
"What do you mean what? she heard her mother sobbing. "There is no food in the house and you are partying."
June sighed placing her hand to her face as she sat on the edge of the bed, if she had not experienced this from her mother too many times she would believe her mother was being real but she knew she was just a drama queen.
