Chapter 6

Jack was tapping his pen on the desk. It had been a month. And he still couldn't get the girl out of his head. He had been drunk when they had sex. But he remembered her face clearly.

He could remember her beautiful brown eyes and how they shone even with the club's neon lights. Her smooth skin, made for his mouth to explore. And her perky and beautiful breasts. And her ass. It wasn't too big. Wasn't too small. Just a perfect fit for him.

Jack sighed and kept the pen down. He stared off into space then stared up when there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," he said, a bit pissed that the person had interrupted his thoughts.

It was Lucy. She sent her head in with a smile. "I'm going to get lunch. Need anything?"

Jack knew she had feelings for him. He didn't do anything to encourage them. But if she told him about them, he was going to let her down. And he was not sure he was going to be gentle.

"No. When you get back, get me Detective Geralds's number," Jack said abruptly, picking up his pen and continuing with his clicking.

Lucy stared at him for a while, then closed the door a bit harshly. Jack payed her no mind and picked up the documents he was supposed to be studying. Then frowned when thoughts of the girl came back to his mind.

He was quite.. confused. Someone, a woman, had never had this much of an effect on him. He had what some people called sex buddies. Even thought what they had was essentially that, he wouldn't qualify it like that.

Jack didn't like involving emotions in any of his "relationships". That was why most of them had ended. Either the girls were not satisfied with just sex and wanted more. Or Jack started feeling some kind of attachment towards them.

That was the main reason why he was never going to have anything with Lucy. She was too emotional. And she was a good personal assistant. He didn't want to lose her because of casual sex he could have anywhere else.

All this and more was why Jack was shocked at why the girl from the club was still taunting his thoughts. He didn't even know her name. So why was he so obsessed with her? And why did the thought of him intoxicate him like this?

Jack frowned then closed the file in front of him. He was not focused on whatever he was doing so it was better he left. He stood, took his suit jacket, hung it over his shoulder and went out of his office.

As he got out, Lucy was coming back, a takeaway bag in her hand. Jack frowned. She had spent almost an hour wherever she had gone to just to come back with a takeaway bag?

"Jack?" she asked, noticing that his jacket was in one hand and the briefcase in the other.

"I'm leaving. Email me Geralds's number. I'll be waiting," was all Jack said and Lucy stood there shocked. Her mouth was open and it was as soon as Jack got into the elevator that she regained usage of it.

"I brought you lunch.."

Jack pretended not to have heard, but the apparent scowl on his face said enough. He really had to consider firing Lucy. Her "feelings" were started to affect her performance at work. And that was the last thing he wanted or needed.

The first thing Jack did when he reached home was to loosen his tie. He wasn't allowed to look shabby. He knew the public eye and those of the board of directors was always on him. So he had to be meticulous about his appearance.

He walked to the bar, poured himself a glass of scotch and drank. It was relieving. His day had not been stressful per say. But thinking about one person consecutively was putting him at wit's end.

Jack walked to his briefcase and took out his phone. He saw Lucy had already sent the number. As she said, she was efficient. The only thing she needed to do now was be professional.

Jack sat in the chair and straightened his legs then dialled the number, not wanting a second more to pass.

"Detective Geralds," someone answered as the call was picked up.

Jack smiled, a small one, but a smile nonetheless. "Geralds? This is Jack Knight"

There was a slight pause, one during which Jack guessed Geralds had recognized the name.

"Right. What can I do for you sir?" He asked and Jack chuckled lowly. It was obvious that Geralds knew who it was. His tone had changed so quickly it was funny. If Jack wasn't already so used to this and if he was a lesser man than he was, he would have felt important.

"I need you to find someone." Straight to the point as always. Jack didn't like beating around the bush, especially with people he didn't know. Talking a lot was taken as a weakness by most people.

"Sir?" Geralds asked, and by his tone Jack knew he wanted more details.

"I don't know her name," Jack said and he heard Geralds suck in a breath.

"That's.. that's going to be complicated. Can we meet, sir?" Geralds asked.

"I'll ask my personal assistant to contact you," Jack said and before Geralds could give his answer, Jack had hung up.

He knew with enough determination and enough money to spend, he could find her. And if he could meet her and finally get her out of his damn mind, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Two days later, Jack was on his way to meet Geralds. The sooner he got done with all this, the better. Lucy had gotten considerably better with his reactions. It was like she had finally realized that she was nothing to him except his personal assistant. And it was never going to change.

To some people, it would seem like Jack was going to stupid extremes just to find one person. But he needed to get her out of his mind. And it didn't matter the extremes he went to.

He and Geralds were meeting at a low-key cafe in the less privileged part of town. The less people got wind if Jack's business, the better.

He parked his car and got slid his tall frame out, then stared at the place with a little disdain. He didn't know what the inside looked like but he sure hoped it was better than the exterior.

Jack walked to the entrance and walked in. Of course he attracted a lot of people's attention. He was tall, really attractive, well dressed and he reeked of money. It wasn't something that was really usual in this part of town.

Jack walked to Geralds who was already sitting with a cup of coffee in front of him. He was lucky he had arrived before Jack. If there was one thing Jack couldn't tolerate, it was tardiness.

"Geralds," Jack said when he reached the table, then dragged out a chair and sat in it, having to weirdly fold his tall frame into the small chair, but managing to make this strange exercise graceful.

Geralds stood and in his haste, almost spilled his cup of coffee. He sent his hand with a stuttered greeting and Jack shook his sweaty hands coolly.

Jack grew annoyed at the man's mannerisms. He had seemed cool and professional when they were talking over the phone but now he was acting star struck. And that was one thing Jack hated.

He waited for the man to compose himself then started, "Good. I want to find someone. But I don't know anything about her. Just her description"

Geralds looked discouraged for a second then he bounced back. "I could do with that. Go ahead sir."

Jack nodded in approval. He was no longer fumbling and his stuttering had disappeared. "She's about five foot six. Dark skin. African American. Has long curly hair reaching her back. And brown eyes"

Geralds had been writing furiously in gis worse for the wear notebook then stopped when Jack stopped.

"Is that all sir?" Geralds asked an Jack almost rolled his eyes at the stupid question.

"If there was anything else, don't you think I'd add it?" Jack asked, trying as much as possible to contain his impatience.

"Right sir. I'm sorry. Can I know where you met with her?"

"At The Tavern. A month and three days ago," Jack said and Geralds raised his eyebrows, probably surprised that Jack had memorised the dates.

"Okay sir. I'll get to it," the man said. Jack nodded, dropped a couple of bills on the table then stood and walked to his car. He hoped Geralds was going to do a good job, they were going to find the girl and Jack finally got to remove the image of that girl from his damn head.
