Chapter 384 Hope Ms. Smith Works Hard to Win Mr. Brown Over
Thalia laughed, hooked her finger around Michael's tie, and pulled him closer. She leaned in and whispered near his ear, her breath tickling his ear canal and sending a tingling sensation down his spine.
It felt like thousands of ants were crawling all over his back.
His hands clenched tightly at his sides.
Thalia said, "When you can stand on equal footing with me, then you can lecture me."
After saying this, Thalia gently pushed him away. "You can't even handle an old lady, and you want respect from me? Learn from Raymond - when the old lady stuck her nose where it didn't belong, he broke her legs so she could never leave the house again for the rest of her life."
Raymond?
Michael's breath caught.
Thalia seemed to know quite a bit.
When William managed to escape the crowd and walked to the hallway near the restroom, he saw from a distance Michael bent over with his back hunched, while Thalia stood with her back straight, lightly patting Michael's face with her hand, like training a puppy.
The posture was suggestive.
And the most suggestive thing about it all was probably the way Michael was looking at her.
After Thalia finished dealing with him, she turned to head back to the venue and saw William standing at the end of the hallway.
She paused.
Wasn't he on the second floor?
How did he end up here?
That look in his eyes - why did he look like he thought she was cheating on him?
Thalia turned and walked toward William without stopping, while Michael stood at the other end of the hallway watching the interaction between the two, until Thalia walked up to William and stopped. She clicked her tongue. "Mr. Brown, seen enough?"
Both of them acted naturally. In Emerald City, everyone moved in the same circles, and William had won the inheritance lawsuit for Thalia. If they acted too distant, that would be suspicious.
On the contrary, this casual, just-right familiarity was the normal situation.
"Go pick up the clothes."
When Henry heard Michael say this, he felt inexplicably sad. After all, he was the heir of the Jimenez family - getting bullied by family elders was one thing, but being bullied by an outsider too? Even he felt bad watching it.
"Mr. Jimenez, why don't we just forget it and leave for today."
"Go." Michael was brief, his expression restrained.
Henry had no choice but to go pick up the clothes that were in the bag.
"Go upstairs to the second floor."
"Not going."
There was still some distance from the hallway to the venue. As William walked beside Thalia, he spoke.
Thalia refused without any courtesy.
"Don't you want the bracelet anymore?" William asked.
"If you don't bid on it for me, my mom will."
William had always been good at hiding his emotions - Thalia had known this for a long time. Once he left Mistwood Hill, he would hide all his feelings tightly. No matter how much you provoked him in public, you couldn't get any extra facial expressions out of him.
"Mr. Brown, we finally meet."
If anyone said Eileen wasn't here for William, Thalia wouldn't believe it.
Watching Eileen approach William, this was a show Thalia couldn't miss.
Thalia called over a server and asked for a glass of champagne. "Could you bring me a chair?"
The server looked troubled. "Ms. Smith, it would block the walkway."
"Oh, never mind then." Thalia found a comfortable position leaning against the bar.
She watched as William's cold gaze looked the person up and down. "Who are you?"
"You may not have seen me before, I'm your grandmother."
"I don't remember my grandmother coming back from the dead?" William's sharp tongue - apart from not being able to win against Thalia, he'd never lost to anyone else.
Eileen's expression changed. "Mr. Brown, if it's convenient for you, could we talk somewhere else?"
"Not convenient." After William said this, he turned and walked away.
Thalia had only taken one sip of her champagne and froze in place.
That's it?
So boring?
Well, it did fit William's style of doing things.
Thalia had just returned to her spot in the center of the venue when her phone rang. She glanced at the number and answered casually.
On the other end was William's cold warning voice. "Drinking alcohol during your period - if you come home tonight complaining about pain, I'll smother you."
Thalia was speechless.
"Did you guys see Mrs. Jimenez just now? Was she trying to flirt with Mr. Brown?"
"Don't they have a daughter? Could she be interested in him for her?"
"It's just like Evelyn said - those people from Regal City, who knows what they're up to, looking down on people from Emerald City while trying to hook up with them. Who are they being all high and mighty for?"
"Exactly. At times like this, I hope Ms. Smith works harder and gets Mr. Brown. I'd be upset if someone else got him."
Evelyn listened to everyone chatting away and nudged Thalia with her elbow. "Did you hear that? Work hard, don't let someone else get him."
Thalia shifted to the side, dodging Evelyn's movement.
With this shift, she happened to see Eileen negotiating with the person guarding the staircase to the second floor.
She seemed to want to go up.
"What's on the second floor? Can't just anyone go up?" Thalia asked Evelyn, but because she was turned to the side, someone nearby heard her.
"Thalia, the second floor is the VIP area. Usually, only people who received blue invitations can go up to the second floor. That includes people like Mr. Brown and Mr. Wilson, plus some important officials who aren't suitable to appear at this kind of event."
"If Eileen wants to go up, it'll probably be difficult."
"Oh."
Thalia thought to herself that William was really impressive.
So young and already among Emerald City's elite.
She really had good taste - while others looked for potential stocks, she went straight for the best.
..........
"Back already? Looks like Ms. Smith didn't do anything!" Angelina and Daniel had already finished their coffee. The server was just bringing their second cups.
There was also a note on the tray.
"Mr. Brown, someone from the next room asked me to bring this over."
"Who?"
"Mr. Wood."
"Leave it."
After the person left, William picked up the note from the tray and glanced at it.
"Is it that Mr. Wood from Emerald City? Hasn't he been retired in the south? Why did he suddenly come back?"
The Wood family and the Mitchell family used to be close friends.
It's just that the Mitchell family's descendants were brainless and led a once-prosperous family to ruin. If it weren't for Eleanor having some ability now, the Mitchell family probably wouldn't have anything left.
The Wood family had been steady all along and retired at the right time, so they still had quite a reputation now.
"What does it say?" William asked.
"Asking to meet."
William took out his lighter, burned the note, and tossed it into the cup.
"What do you think?"
"We'll see," William replied coldly.
