Chapter 178 Has the Menstruation Ended?
Thalia saw that William didn't respond, so she turned to look at him.
William's hand, which had been rubbing her lower back, gradually moved to her waist. "I'm not taking you to business dinners anymore."
Thalia put down the cat toy on the carpet and turned to cup William's face. "Is that what I meant?"
She had been attending such occasions with Hayden since childhood and was used to it all. After becoming an adult and entering the entertainment industry, she had seen plenty of these conversational scenes.
William's fingers traced around her waist and landed on her lower abdomen. "Then what do you mean?"
Their eyes met. She felt like William was the drunk one. His misty eyes penetrated her soul, as if visually devouring her.
Thalia looked away and tried to get up, but William hooked her waist and pulled her onto his lap. Thalia let out a startled cry. "What are you doing? There are other people in the house."
Thalia thought to herself that although she was shameless, she wasn't that shameless. William was practically putting on a free live show for everyone.
She squirmed, trying to get down, but William's hand pressed on her waist. "Don't move."
"What are you afraid of?"
"If they don't have the sense to know better, would I let them work here?"
This reassurance was barely better than nothing.
Thalia buried her face in William's neck, truly embarrassed.
"Is your period over?"
"Not completely."
William laughed in frustration. "I've never seen a woman have her period on and off for fifteen days in a month. Are you making up excuses because you don't want to sleep with me?"
Thalia pushed away and sat up, looking at him seriously. "Shouldn't you be worried that I might be dying?"
"I don't know if you're dying, but I know I'm going to die if I keep holding back."
After William finished speaking, he lifted Thalia's chin with his index finger and kissed her, fierce and intense. That restrained and suggestive tension stretched between them. Thalia felt William's restraint and found herself strangely enjoying this feeling.
Liking is indulgence, love is restraint.
And William's restrained control as someone in power was intoxicating.
Every time Thalia teased William, she felt a strange sense of achievement. The man that so many women in Emerald City couldn't get their hands on had become her conquest, hadn't he?
Women have a desire to conquer too.
And a woman like Thalia wouldn't even look at ordinary men.
After a moment, William ground his teeth and pushed her away, speaking through clenched jaw. "Thalia, you're killing me."
William picked her up and tossed her onto the sofa.
Thalia sat on the sofa hugging her knees, blinking with an innocent look, pure and harmless. "Where are you going, Mr. Brown?"
"To take a shower."
"Don't go, let's keep chatting!"
.........
"Mrs. Brown, Amara is here."
Thalia was looking at messages in the production crew group chat on her iPad when she heard Fallon speaking at the door. She was slightly surprised.
"Why are you here?"
"My brother sent me," Amara not only came herself but also brought an elderly gentleman with her.
"Let me introduce you. This is the best gynecologist at our hospital."
Thalia: "What do you mean?"
"My brother called me and said you have irregular periods. He asked me to find a doctor to check on you."
Actually, William hadn't said anything about irregular periods, but his actual words were too embarrassing for her to repeat.
Thalia: ........
If it weren't for the outsider present, Thalia would have gone after William right then and there.
After a while, Thalia sat on the sofa with furrowed brows, falling into self-doubt. "With all these problems he just mentioned, can I even live to thirty?"
"Yes!" Amara wasn't sure either. She sat across from her holding the cat, looking at Thalia. "Everyone living in this world has some problems, more or less. If you don't treat these problems as problems, you can live to a hundred."
"Don't you think what you just said is the same as saying nothing?" Wasn't that complete nonsense? When facing problems, not treating them as problems was simply impossible.
"Leaving?" William's flat tone cut in. Thalia propped her chin and glanced at him sideways. "Mr. Brown, would you be happy if I died young?"
William's hand paused as he reached for his water glass. "I should be happy. After all, you're quite a rich woman."
"If you die, I can take your money and find beautiful women, let them wear your designer clothes, carry your designer bags, sleep with your husband, use your skincare products, drive your luxury cars, live in your mansion........"
Amara: ......... Shameless! So shameless! And Thalia doesn't even deal with him? She's letting him live to see Christmas?
Thalia glared at him angrily. "Then before I die, I'll definitely find men outside."
............
"Kurt, Nora is outside."
Kurt was getting off work. It was almost eight o'clock. When his secretary mentioned Nora, he paused. "What is she here for?"
"She didn't say specifically, but I asked around in the entertainment industry. They said she offended someone and that person is making things difficult for her now."
Kurt stood in the elevator, his expression calm without any ripples.
At his age, if his children had married early, he could have had grandchildren by now. "I gave her benefits not for her sake. I thought she would know when to stop, but I didn't expect her ambitions to be so big."
The secretary watched, waiting for his next words.
"Go send her away."
"Understood."
Nora drove two hours from the set to the city, thinking she could see Kurt today, but instead, she was met by his secretary.
"Where's Kurt?"
"Nora, Kurt asked me to tell you that people should know their place. The benefits given to you last time weren't because of your personal value. Nora, if you can't figure out your position, you shouldn't be in the entertainment industry anymore."
This blatant warning made Nora's face stiffen. She stared at the person in front of her, wanting to say something but unable to speak.
Capitalists playing with female celebrities was common in the industry, but now Kurt wasn't even giving her the chance to be played with.
This wasn't just lack of interest in her—this was looking down on her.
"Can I know why? Did I do something wrong?"
"This is as far as you'll go in the entertainment industry. If Mr. Lowe wanted to play with female celebrities in the entertainment industry, he'd just crook his finger and plenty of award-winning actresses would come running. You're not worthy."
