Chapter 71 Making a mistake

Chapter 71 Making a mistake
Uriel's POV

"He can't make it."

"What do you mean he can't make it?" I eyed the doctor. "He will make it. My Ryder will make it."

"Please, let go."

Shaking my head frantically, I yelled. "No! I'm not leaving here without my Ryder being alive."

"Open your eyes..."

Huh?

I felt a cold hand on my cheek, making my shoulder jerk.

"Open your eyes, baby." The voice was softer this time. Then I felt the squeeze on my hand.

My eyes shot open instantly. Confusion etched on my face for a few seconds as my eyes met the strange empty room that looked nothing familiar.

Then slowly, my eyes circled round until it landed on the dark green eyes - one I had imprinted in my memory.

One I was growing too fond of.

"You're awake!" My voice came out too gleeful, a big smile appearing on my lips.

He doesn't say anything for a while. His eyes just bored right into mine, his pupils dilated. He grazed his thumb gently, on the back of my palm.

"Are you okay, Ry?" I was about to stand up but paused when I saw him nod

"Then why are you not saying anything?" Panic began to creep into my voice as I spoke.

"I'm sorry, Kinky," his voice was husky and low - too low, I almost didn't hear him.

Shaking my head, I held his hand in mine this time. "You didn't do anything to me. In fact, it's all my fault."

"What?"

"It's because you looked at me. If you hadn't looked at me, he wouldn't have attacked you. If I didn't come there..."

He placed his index finger on my lips, shaking his head small, "baby, I took you there. Just pin it on me and let it be."

I sighed.

"Thank you," my voice broke. Instantly my eyes dropped to my thigh. My eyes fluttered, trying to regulate the tears that was threatening to spill.

"I should be -"

" Just ...let me talk," I croaked out, biting my quivering lips.

His loud heave of breath echoed. Then he squeezed my hand for the umpteenth time, giving me a go-ahead.

"Thank you for showing me that place. Thank you for not hiding that part of you from me," I paused, the weight of my next words pressing down my tongue. Sniffling, I mumbled, "thank you for not dying on me, Ryder."

"When I saw you drop to the ground that day with...with blood - I...I just couldn't place my head around it. I felt like I wasn't going to make it one minute. I -" by now, the tears were streaming down my eyes freely, uncontrollably.

"Hey, hey, hey baby." Ryder cooed, pulling me into the small bed by my arm.

When the incident happened, he was rushed into one small clinic where they administered drip and stitched up the cut on his back. Then later that day, he was moved to this small room.

My anxiety didn't even let me stay fainted for a long time. Immediately the mini ambulance came, I had already started regaining consciousness.

"I'm not leaving you, baby. I'm here. I'll always be here for you and I promise you this particular one," He groaned slightly as he pulled me into his warm embrace, pressing my head into his hard chest.

"I'll hold onto your words. I mean it." I muttered into his shirt.

"Thank you for not leaving my sight, Kinky. It's the first time someone has ever stayed by my side during my downtime." He rested his chin on my head.

"Is this the part you ask me to marry you?" My face lifted up into a smile.

His shoulder tensed under me.

"I'm kidding." Pulling out of his grip, I smiled at him. "Damn, you're that scared of marriage?"

His jaw ticked, his eyes darting elsewhere.

Oh.

"Don't worry, we're not getting married or anything of that sort."

"You know..." He held my face up by my chin, looking into my eyes. "We are not the ones to decide that. I believe what will be, will be. You never can tell, Kinky."

His eyes held something. Hope.

Well, that was relieving to see.

"Kiss me." I whispered, eyeing his lips.

"Fuck, I've been meaning to do that since I woke up." He chuckled, crashing his lips into mine.

We held each other's face, savoring and exploring the corners of our mouth. His hands roamed all over my body, hungrily. My chest heaved up and down, my body growing all hot from his touch.

Then, a dull ache - between my legs.

Oh my God!

"I can't get enough of you, Kinky." Ryder muttered against my lips, holding my face in place.

"Then don't stop." I whispered, locking my eyes against his.

"After tomorrow, I won't." He tapped my nose. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Huh?"

"You don't remember what tomorrow is?" He raised his eyebrow at me, pulling me by my waist into his thigh. His hands wrapped around me possessively as he tried to adjust. A muffled groan escaped his lips, making my eyes grow wild.

"Oh God! Your stitch." My hand flew to his back, in search of the little wound cut.

My eyes darkened for a split second, his look murderous.

"Is it big?"

Shaking my head, "no" I said.

"The bastard was trying to carve his fucking name in my back, you know." His temple ticked like a ticking bomb. "Too bad, it'll be the last time he ever tried that."

"Because you quit?" I asked, a bit hopeful. Seeing him in that ring wasn't something I wanted to repeat itself.

"Not that." His eyes did that thing where they suddenly turned empty and hollow.

"Oh."

His head snapped to my face, his eyes brightening up immediately, "baby, it's my last time, don't get me wrong. But that wasn't what I meant in that context."

"For real?" My face lit up with a full blown smile, my heart swelling. When he nodded, I hurried wrapped my hand around his head, pressing it to my chest.

"You know I kinda underestimated these cute little bumps on your chest. They're fucking soft, Kinky." He muttered into my chest, his voice vibrating through my skin.

Giggling, I pushed him away playfully. "Get out, you pervert."

"Only for you." He stretched his lips for a kiss but I covered them, laughing hard.

"I think I remember what tomorrow is."

"Yeah." His voice dropped. "I'm sorry you have to take care of me on the day before you turn big 18."

"Oh, I'll do it again and again, Ryder. As long as it's you." I meant it.

His eyes locked onto mine, holding still, "don't say things like that, Kinky."

"But it's the truth." I smiled at him.

"Fuck, I could just swallow you whole!" He flipped me around, not minding his stitch. My heart skipped a bit but then it got replaced with giddiness when Ryder playfully began to eat my skin with his soft lips.

"It's ticklish!" I giggled, trying to push him away but he wouldn't budge until he was satisfied.

Sighing, he positioned himself in-between my legs, resting his head on my stomach.

"Kinky..."

"Yeah?" I answered after a while, looking down at him.

"I like - I like that you're here with me." He smiled but it didn't meet his eyes.

"Me too."

Or maybe not just that.

My heart began to throb harshly in my chest. Even the circles he traced on my stomach couldn't help calm me down.

The feeling was pushing in stronger.

When he looked up again, our eyes locking... I got the memo - the answer.

"You good, baby?"

My mouth fell open first. Then I forcefully bobbed my head up and down, "y-yes."

No!

Oh my God, no.

I was freaking falling in love with Ryder.

But something told me I was making a mistake. A big one.
