Chapter 31 An example
Uriel's POV
"Hey babe!"
Chase's voice boomed loud, throughout the hall way.
Students paused their various activities, their eyes pinned on us, curiously.
My eyes fluttered for a few seconds, then I turned to look at his hand that was wrapped around my shoulder.
I shrugged it off, a bit annoyed.
"What..."
His eyes broke off from my gaze, looking into another dimension. Slowly, I followed his eyes only to stop at Ryder.
My breath seized.
My heart slowly picked up it's packing until it was racing fast.
I took a step backward, creating space between Chase and I.
Somehow, guilt gnawed on me. I began to feel like I was betraying him.
Would he think I chose Chase?
But I ran away from both of them...
This shouldn't read something, should it?
Shaking my head stiffly, I scolded myself internally.
"Why do I care? He's with Emma anyway."
As if on cue, Emma came from behind him, trailing her long manicured nails along his chest. Swiftly, she placed a quick kiss on his cheek.
That gained the attention of the students.
Chase frowned, his eyes red.
My hands clenched by my side.
Ryder took Emma by her hand, eyeing me once before pulling her away.
Yeah, yeah, I get it.
She's yours.
It even made me feel more stupid.
"Can we talk somewhere private? Without extra eyes?" Chase asked, his voice a bit rough. Like he was on edge.
"Uhh... Sure." I nodded, leading the way to the corner of the hallway.
Not too closed off, not too open.
"So... I told Emma you were with me when she called looking for you." Chase said in a breathy tone.
My eyes snapped open. My mouth parting slightly.
What?
"Why would you do that, Chase?" I folded my arms, frowning.
"That leads to our next conversation. So a lot of people thing we're dating after that seven minutes in heaven shit we did." Chase said, nonchalance in his tone.
My face contorted into that of confusion, my eyebrows raised. "We didn't do anything but discuss!"
"That's against the rules, you know? We were supposed to kiss or do anything - Look, I don't see anything bad with it."
I scoffed.
"Except...you like someone else." His face turned into a small frown.
Why would I like Ryder?
He likes Emma.
Wait...
Nobody mentioned Ryder, Uriel!
Holy shit.
"So I'm correct, right? You like someone." He tucked his hand in his pocket, his eyes dark as he stared down at me.
"You're not correct. I don't like anyone." I said, a bit irritated. Then I sighed, saying, "I don't want to get in trouble with your female fans."
Chase quickly placed his hand on my shoulder, shaking his head.
"Trust me, you won't."
He didn't know that 'trust' wasn't someone I easily did.
Especially with strangers.
"I promise, I'll look after you." He still tried to convince me into acting with him.
A mind pleaded with me to say 'no'
"What exactly do you even want us to do? Date? Act?"
He scoffed, bringing down his hands down. "Why do I feel like you're judging me from the perspective of a certain person. You're acting this way because you've been fed with lies about me."
Huh?
"That's the reason you don't want to give us chance. At least, give me chance to know you more. In school, we can hang out like close friends. I want to be close to you. But you clearly don't seem interested." Chase spat, his voice hard.
Teenage boys.
"I swear, it's not like that, Chase."
"Then go out with me. Let's eat out. As friends." He said casually.
He was trying.
One mind told me.
"Uhh... Okay then." I forced a smile on my lips.
"Good." He smiled, turning away immediately.
A long sigh left my lips as I watched him leave. I hoped I wasn't making a wrong decision before walking to my class.
Classes went by in a blur. Today wasn't exactly so fruitful for me as I thought over my decision and everything that had happened in the past few days.
They were a lot.
"I'll see you guys soon. I need to see the Principal." I told my girls, walking towards the opposite direction.
A large hand suddenly grabbed my arms, pulling me into a dimly lighted room. The light bulb flickered like those lights from horror movies.
My back softly collided with the cold, steel door. My eyes moved up until it locked with the dark green eyes.
Same eyes that haunted me in my sleep.
He caged me with his arms, occupying just enough space in the small room where the Janitor kept his equipment.
"I used to think you're wise but you've proved me wrong since you started following Chase." I tried to move, only for him to pin me back, "I didn't peg you to be those type of girls who loved attention, you know."
I scoffed, eyeing him.
Then I placed my hand on his chest, shoving him back - away from me. We weren't going to have this conversation.
He was one to judge me!
Him!
His hand grabbed my arm again, shoving me lightly against the door, his gaze feral.
Veins popped on his forehead as he glared daggers at me, "Trust me, you think you got this but you're making a big mistake."
"Big mistake? Oh please." I pushed his hands off me. Then I smirked, folding my arms, "or maybe you're just jealous of Chase, that you try to ruin things for him."
His jaw ticked, his fist clenched tight, it could snap.
"Seriously, grow up."
I turned to leave, my hands on the door when his voice echoed in the room.
"Don't call for me when things go south, Kennedy."
I swallowed hard, turning to face him.
"I won't, Connell."
The minute we both stepped out of the Janitor's room, the principal clapped his hand.
"Wonderful!"
My heart raced.
When I turned to look at Ryder, his face held no emotion in them.
"I'll use you two to set an example to your fellow students. My office, now!"
He was one to talk!
