Chapter 75 To The Rescue

Chapter 75 To The Rescue

Jack's POV

My phone buzzed.

It was one of my team members.

They wouldn't call unless something was wrong. I grabbed the phone and answered immediately, bringing it up to my ear.

“Talk to me.” I said casually.

There was a brief burst of static on the other end before his voice came through, tense and rushed.

“Boss, where are you right now?”

I frowned slightly. “Driving, why?”

There was a short pause. “Are you alone?”

My fingers stilled against the steering wheel.
“Yes,” I said slowly. “What’s going on?”

The line crackled again before he spoke.
“We just picked something up through the monitoring system.”

A cold feeling slid into my chest. “What kind of something?”

“Your vehicle is being tracked.”

I thought I misheard him. “What?”

His voice came back immediately, “Your vehicle is being tracked, Jack. There’s a signal attached to it. I think someone planted a tracker.”

Shock hit me like cold water. “What the hell are you talking about?”

I thought I was being careful.

“We ran the sweep twice to be sure,” he continued quickly. “It’s not part of our equipment, someone else planted it.”

“How long?” I demanded.

“We’re still analyzing that.”

My grip on the steering wheel tightened until my knuckles turned white. “How the hell did someone get close enough to plant something on my car?”

“We don’t know that yet,” he admitted. “But the signal is active and transmitting location data.”

My location was being tracked, which meant—a thought slammed into my mind so suddenly and it made my stomach drop.

Elena.

I felt the blood drain from my face, the only reason someone would bother tracking me right now was to find out where I’d gone.

My voice came out sharper than I intended.
“Are you absolutely sure?”

“Yes.”

“Can you disable it?” I asked as my gaze lingered on the red lights.

“We’re trying to triangulate it first.”

“That’s not what I asked,” I snapped, a brief silence followed before he answered carefully.

“Yes… but if we shut it down now, whoever’s watching will know we’ve discovered it.” he responded.

I barely heard the rest of what he was saying because my thoughts had already jumped ahead. If someone was tracking my car…
then they could trace everywhere I’d been including the place I had just left Elena.

A cold wave of realization swept through me.

“Jack?” the voice on the phone said cautiously.

“Elena…” I muttered instead under my breath.

“Boss?” he asked, confused.

I straightened in the seat as adrenaline started to surge through my system.
“When did the tracker activate?” I demanded.

“We’re still pulling the data—”

“Give me an estimate.”

“A few hours ago… maybe longer.”

A few hours? It was long enough to cover the entire drive to that house.

My chest tightened. “Damn it.”

A horn blared impatiently but my mind was somewhere else entirely.

Elena is the target and she's alone.

My pulse spiked.

“Jack?” my team member’s voice pressed again through the phone. “What’s going on?”

I inhaled sharply, already gripping the steering wheel tighter. “Listen to me carefully.”

“Yeah?”

“If someone’s tracking my car…” I said slowly, dread coiling in my chest, “then they know exactly where I took Elena.”

A terrifying realization settled heavily in my gut—she might already be in danger.

I didn’t even remember ending the call.

My phone slipped from my hand and landed hard on the passenger seat, skidding slightly as I jerked the steering wheel to the left.

A horn blared somewhere behind me and another driver shouted something I didn’t bother hearing.

The traffic light was still red, but I was already turning the car around. The tires screeched against the asphalt as I forced the car into a sharp U-turn right in the middle of the intersection.

“Move!” I barked through clenched teeth, even though no one inside the other vehicles could hear me.

The car behind me honked again but I ignored it.

Then my foot slammed down on the accelerator. The engine roared, the force pushing me back into the seat as the car shot forward like a bullet.

Every thought in my head was spiraling around Elena's safety.

If anything happened to her—

I gripped the steering wheel so hard. “Damn it…” I muttered under my breath.

The city blurred past the windows in streaks and as the speedometer climbed higher and higher, it still didn’t feel fast enough because every second felt like it was slipping through my fingers.

It's all my fault.

My mind kept replaying the last look Elena had given me.

“Idiot,” I hissed at myself.

The highway opened up ahead of me and I pressed the accelerator even harder.

Cars ahead of me scattered as I swerved between lanes, ignoring speed limits, ignoring traffic rules, ignoring everything except the gnawing voice in my head.

Elena.

My heart slammed painfully against my ribs.
“No,” I said out loud, my voice sounded rough. “No, no, no…”

Then my car roared down the highway exit that led back to my old place. My pulse pounded louder the closer I got.

I turned into the familiar street too fast, the tires skidding slightly before catching the pavement again.

The house came into view as my stomach dropped. I slammed the brakes and the car lurched violently before stopping. I slid out of the car before the engine fully died.

The door was unlocked but I shoved it open so hard it slammed against the wall.

“Elena!” I shouted immediately.

No response.

“Elena!” I called again, louder this time.

Still nothing.

I stepped inside quickly as my eyes scanned every corner.

Everything looked too bare and normal.
“Elena?” I tried again, but still no answer.

A cold feeling crept into my stomach and
I moved through the house quickly, opening doors one after another.

My heartbeat was starting to pound in my ears now.

“Elena, where are you?” I muttered under my breath.

Everything looked normal and there were signs of struggle in the open areas but that didn’t calm me one bit.

“Elena!” I shouted again, as my voice echoed off the walls.

A bold mix of frustration, fear and rage tangled in the pit of my stomach.

“Damn it!” I roared, my voice ripping through the house as I dragged a hand through my hair.

I couldn't think straight because my mind was racing too fast to keep up with itself.

I forced myself to keep moving room by room—searching everywhere and when I reached the bathroom, I pushed the door forcefully and I saw that nothing looked out of place.

That was when something caught my eye, a small object sitting on the sink.

My steps slowed as I approached it, and even though a strange sense of dread was creeping in, I reached out and picked it up.

The plastic felt light in my hand as my eyes dropped to the small display window.

Two red lines.

My breath caught in my throat when the realization hit me like a punch straight to the chest.

“She’s pregnant?” I muttered under my breath.

I couldn't fully process it.
