Chapter 5
"Promise you won't try killing the guy today?"
I gave Lin a look before walking into the meeting, avoiding any eye contact with Obsidian. Out of the corner of my eye I could see him smirking, believing he tamed me so to speak. Swallowing my anger, I forced a smile and nodded at all the kings in the room. When I got to his spot, I couldn't help myself but stare him straight in the eye. I don't want him thinking it's that easy, I'm not one to submit to men, especially those who use fear to gain fake respect.
"Good morning, Obsidian. How is your leg?" I hissed as I sat beside him.
He rolled his eyes, "Why are you sitting there?"
"Because it's the only seat available that would allow my friend to sit beside me."
Lin waved like the goof she is before pulling out her phone, most likely stalking Brayden on Facebook or Instagram. Obsidian raised an eyebrow before shaking his head, he gave me an annoyed stare before looking away. I grinned, my new plan to shove him face first into a fit of pique, forming in my mind.
"So, any plans to have us do more of your dirty work and kill another irksome warrior?" I questioned, causing him to clench his jaw.
He breathed out, "No."
"Interesting. So, your idea of making me behave around you didn't work, huh?"
"Don't think I won't break your neck next, prince-ass."
I scoffed, "You can go right ahead and try."
Lin suddenly nudged my side, warning me to quit irritating the guy. Internally groaning, I slumped down in my chair. Lin smirked at Obsidian, "Nice try."
Obsidian furrowed his eyebrows but didn't say anything else as my father started the meeting. For the following hour, we reviewed multiple plans about fighting off the hunters, but they all lacked one crucial detail. We have no idea where any of them are hiding, they're humans, they could be living two miles from us and we wouldn't know. Some of the pups or teens could be going to the school with their children and we would be completely blind.
Pursing my lips, I slowly raised my hand to grab my father's attention. He quickly noticed and nodded, giving me my chance to speak before all the other kings. I took a deep breath, reminding myself that this was my chance to show them the type of queen I could be.
"We need to find out where all their bases are first, we know they'll have at least one in each country. We need to know who oversees all of them and how they're managing to get into our packs. One managed to drug me and now a second poisoned King Rafael's mate, we can't go straight to an attack plan if we know nothing about them," I pointed out.
Obsidian laughed, "We don't have time to do research. How about, you do that and us men can do the real work."
I bit the inside of my cheek, adding sexist to his resume of amazing qualities. Smiling sweetly, I gently placed a hand on his shoulder. "You call yourself a real man but couldn't even make me submit in a fight. I wouldn't call you a true man."
"Okay, how about we take a lunch break?" Lin cut in as she tugged on my arm. "We could all use some food."
"I agree, wouldn't want to beat a daddy's girl in this room. Why don't you do yourself a favor and find yourself a man who can lead," Obsidian grinned.
I nodded slowly, "Says the man who doesn't know how to talk and tricks his warrior into coming onto our territory and getting him killed. And who killed him? Oh right, me, a daddy's girl. You just think attack is always the answer, I guess that is what happens when you're raised by a tyrant. We need to be smart about this or else many werewolves will be murdered. Do you even know where to attack?"
"She has a point, we can't do Obsidian's plan and attack a random neighborhood of humans. We'll be just as bad as the hunters," Rafael piped. "Charlotte would hate me if I did that and it's also sort of idiotic if you think about it."
A soft murmur of agreement washed over the room, causing me to feel a burst of pride. I went to shove it in the ass's face, but he was already walking out of the room. Frowning, I went to chase after him, but Lin quickly grabbed me by my arm.
"Don't, he's pretty heated right now. And why are you even trying to go after the guy anyway?"
I sighed, "Because after I'm a bitch to someone, I always feel bad. Even if the person is a complete dick and did attack me yesterday."
"Well, you two did just act like children for a second there with your bickering. Just let him go, you know he'll probably just attack you again. The guy is feral sometimes."
"I guess you're right. At least I won over the guys," I smirked.
She grinned, "See? You just need to speak up and it's a good thing you did. They were being complete idiots about this."
"Well, not complete idiots. For days my dad has been having disagreements with Obsidian about their plan. My dad and several alphas wanted to find out where their bases are first, then form an attack plan from that. Obsidian wanted to go straight to the attack plan."
"So....it wasn't all your idea?"
"Sort of. My dad was arguing because we couldn't just attack nothing, I brought up the point about many of us being killed if we just attack randomly. Rafael had a good point too, if we randomly attacked humans it would set us back so many years."
Lin nodded, "So, you were all being smart about this, Obsidian wasn't."
"Right."
"Makes sense, he and his pack have always been aggressive in the way they fight. I guess, the way they plan things isn't much different."
I shrugged, "Not my problem right now."
I stared at all the maps surrounding me in my father's office, trying to figure out what the best spot for the hunters to have a base at. For the past two days, we have all been watching outside more closely, trying to find a hint of a hunter. While the guy Obsidian had caught did blurt out that they have one main boss, he refused to tell us where the bases were, but that they have them. My father and the others had eventually given up on the hunter and allowed Obsidian to order his death, that Malachi had gladly delivered.
Every single day we had a meeting and every day, it lasted for about four hours. Obsidian doesn't say a word to anyone, he just leans against the wall and watches us. I could care less, after our argument the other day, I've been more focused on my plan. While annoying him can be fun, the reality of the situation had pulled me in. I couldn't go a day without worrying about if a hunter would attack or not. And if they did, if we would lose a pup next time or a warrior.
Running a hand through my hair, I marked another spot where I believe would be easy for them to gain access to without us knowing. It was in rogue territory, of course they had to worry about rogues, but they could kill them off and none of us would know. After all, we kill them most of the time as well. But it was in the center, where no packs ever travel to due to there not being reason to. It would make the best sense, if there was an actual building there. While there hasn't been any sign of movement there for months, something in my gut kept bringing me back to this area. It would be the most convenient for them and probably the safest spot.
"Working hard there, kiddo?" my father asked as he walked in.
I frowned, "Are you sure there isn't anyone in that spot?"
"Obsidian has been watching that area for a while now, they always have since rogues attacked them quite often. He has never seen a human walk in or out of the area."
"And you're just going to take his word for it?"
"Honey, I know you hate him, but he isn't an idiot. He's a good alpha, sometimes, I have to believe him."
I let out a huff, "Well, I don't. He never thinks outside of the box, they could have an entrance where we can't see it."
"And in order to figure that out, we would have to venture deeper into their homes. We can't just go sniffing around a neighborhood without risking a hunter spotting us."
"How would they know we were werewolves?"
He sighed, "We don't age after thirty, we barely have any blemishes, we are practically gods and goddesses in their eyes."
"Well, Artemis did create our kind," I chirped.
He nodded, "Okay, yes but we're easy to see. Besides, we don't hide our abilities that well."
"If we did?"
He stared at me for a moment, knowing I wasn't going to give this up. But I had to know if they have an entrance somewhere else, it would be the only explanation. He groaned, "Okay, fine we can send a group—
"No, I want to go. It's my idea, I'll risk my life for it."
"Don't be stupid."
"I'm not, you can send two strong warriors with me."
He leaned back in his chair, "I know two, but you'll hate the one."
"No."
"Yes. Obsidian will go with you, he has been around them before, he knows how to act."
I let out a whine and sighed, "Fine."
"Alright, it's settled then. You, Obsidian and... shit, didn't think of a third guy."
"How about Lin? She's a sneaky bitch."
"I actually agree to that, she's fast and smart when it comes to handling stuff like this."
I grinned, "Yes!"
"You can leave this Friday evening, I'll find a hotel or something since I'm sure it'll take longer than a few hours," my father explained.
"Thank you."
He nodded, "Don't get yourself killed."
"I won't."
