Chapter 12
"Why do you do it?" I asked, trying to find a way to convince her to help me.
If I could find out why she's working for those who will eventually take her life, then I could possibly use it as an advantage. However, she simply shrugged as she grabbed a small, brown jar. She stuck the needle into it and began sucking out the liquid, I grew confused as I watched the green liquid go into the syringe. It reminded me of NyQuil, making me internally groan at the memory of the taste. While it did help with my cold symptoms, it still tasted awful.
"What will this do?" I asked, growing antsy.
She grinned, "It should make you so weak, you'll believe you're dying."
"Well, that's stupid."
"Excuse me?"
"Just give us wolfsbane and we'll be fine. Let me guess, it's a combination of wolfsbane, nightshade and some type of sleeping medicine."
"How did you...?"
I smirked, "You guys aren't very bright and I'm no fool. Wolfsbane, nightshade, silver and loads of sleeping medicine are probably the only things that can make us drowsy or weak. Haven't seen one chemical that can do anything more."
She seemed to hesitate, glancing at her poison I could see the vexation on her face, giving me a small ounce of confidence. While I'm sure there are poisons that can kill us, such as gallons of wolfsbane, I could possibly fool her into believing me. It'll buy me extra time while they find something else that can kill a werewolf. I know that is what their goal is, it would be pointless to make us all drowsy and then just shoot us. It would be far too much work and it wouldn't be effective enough. We could easily kill them off before they're able to put every single pack to sleep or weaken them to the point of exhaustion. A plan slowly began forming in my head, her dithering gave me the answers I needed. They don't know nearly enough about werewolves and I highly doubt those rogues they have given them any useful information.
She let out a few colorful words before putting the liquid back and storming over to some papers. I pursed my lips as I looked around, trying to find a way out of these straps. However, I couldn't and by the time I was going to wiggle my way out, hunters marched in.
"Take her back to the cells, we're wasting our energy on these damn toxins," she snapped.
The hunters didn't say anything as they quickly drugged me and dragged me away, much to my dismay. I could feel my wolf stir again, this time it was a little stronger, but my mind was too fuzzy for me to do anything. I once again studied each hall, trying to memorize the ways around this building. In the distance I could hear Obsidian yelling and growling, hunters were shouting, and crashing echoed through the darkness.
"Patrick, go check and see if they need help in the interrogation room," one of the hunters commanded.
A shorter man nodded and sprinted towards the first room we were in, disappearing behind a door. I caught a glimpse of Obsidian, my chest constricted when I saw the amount of blood on his leg and shirt. I silently begged him to hang in there until I could find a way out.
I was awoken by someone being thrown into the cell and whimpering, slowly getting up I made my way over to the body. I knew it was Obsidian, we were the only two living werewolves it seems. I carefully pulled him into my lap as he continued choking on what seemed to be blood, I could see a small stream of it coming from the corner of his mouth. I ripped part of my shirt and began wiping his face, trying to clean as much grime off him as I could.
"W-we need to get....out of here," he breathed, wincing at the pain.
I nodded, "I'm finding a way."
A shiver ran through him, causing him to cry out as his leg twitched, moving the bar just a little. I sighed and ran my fingers through his hair to calm him. I bit my bottom lip as I began going over plans in my head, knowing Obsidian wouldn't survive if I waited another day or so. Even so, getting out of here will be a failure if I don't figure out where the exit is, and I'm determined to figure it out very soon.
"Good evening love birds!"
I looked up as the boss stood before the cell, his eyes shining with sick enjoyment when he saw Obsidian. He smirked at me, "Since his body can't take much more abuse for a little while, you're my next toy. I need some more answers and seeing how you knew our three drugs would be useless against you guys, you'll be useful."
Rolling my eyes, I pulled Obsidian closer, "I'm going to be straight with you. I barely know anything, I just knew that stuff about the drugs because it's cliché. Tell me one hunter who hasn't used either wolfsbane, silver or nightshade."
He opened his mouth and closed it a few times, his eyebrows furrowing as he attempted to think of someone. After a few minutes, he gave up, "You have a point there. See, you're a smart one, and being King Dracos' daughter, I would assume you know something."
"No, we barely have any info. Why do you think we were walking around aimlessly in the woods a day ago?"
"You mean two days ago."
"What?"
He chuckled, "Sweetheart, you two were out for about a day."
"We...." I trailed off, not fully believing him.
There is no way we were out for a day, we've only been here for a day. Right? I began second guessing myself, realizing there were no windows so I couldn't keep track of the time that way and I didn't have my phone on me, so that was another dead end. During my confusion, he took that moment to grab me and shove Obsidian aside, earning sheer panic from me. I clawed, kicked and screamed at them, my weakened body struggling to break free. I looked at Obsidian, quietly promising him I'll get us out of here.
"Wolfsbane is almost out of our system, try to distract them from giving us more. They don't seem very smart."
My wolf's voice echoed in my head and I obeyed her, believing in her to guide me. With Obsidian barely alive and without my father, my wolf was the only other one there that I could turn to. As they drugged me once more with that gold liquid, I slumped into their arms and allowed them to drag me out.
