Chapter 79: Delusion

"Now?"

"You may go, ma'am. We will accompany you," he said.

"No. Don't dare."

"We can't let you go alone," he spoke. She can't go anywhere alone. Shehryaar had made

sure of it. Even in his absence, he was keeping an eye on her. He had appointed bodyguards

who would follow her every time, everywhere she goes. They would inform him about her

whereabouts.

"I can go and don't follow me. That's an order," she replied, and they exchanged helpless

glances before she walked away.

As she strolled around, she found the place awfully quiet. Rather, the whole floor was silent.

There was no one. Not a single being. A frown marred her brows.

She spotted an elevator and decided to go to another floor when another guard came in

front of her.

He looked at her and then stepped aside, letting her go. "You may go, madam," he said,

giving her the way.

Her grey eyes filled with astonishment as the doors of the elevator opened. A smile made its

way to her lips, and she walked inside, taking a deep breath. She appreciated every moment.

Those four walls made her realize that. After days of loneliness and confinement, she was

feeling peaceful, for the first time in so long.

The elevator dinged open, and the doors revealed to her almost another world, full of

people walking here and there. The area was busy and loud compared to the previous floor.

She had missed this. She had missed meeting people.

She smiled, ear to ear, and walked across the people where her feet led her to. She found

herself standing in front of a pool. Squatting down, she dipped her hand in the water. At

first, it felt cold, yet slowly the temperature felt cool to her as she began to splash the water.

The room filled with her giggles. It had been long since she had been so peaceful. She was

happy right now, forgetting her miseries and pain for a while.

"Excuse me," a voice caught her attention, and she frowned, standing up.

"Yes?" She found a man standing there. With his hands behind his back, his deep blue eyes

stared at her.

"Hi," he said, and a smile made its way onto his lips.

"Who are you?" she questioned.

"No one. I just wanted to ask you about the way."

"Which way?"

"I couldn't find the reception on this floor," he said.

"Is there a reception on this floor?" she asked with a frown, and he laughed quietly.

"I'm sorry. I think you are not the person I need. I was looking for someone. Maybe I met the

wrong person. Sorry for bothering you," he replied. "By the way, I'm Wali," he extended his

hand, and she gave it a suspicious glance.

"I'm engaged," she set forth her hand in front of him.

He laughed. "I didn't mean any harm, nor was I trying to make any advances, Ms..."

"Sheharzaad,"

"Ms. Sheharzaad, I didn't mean any harm," he withdrew his hand. "I hope you didn't mind."

She gave no response to the smile he passed. He was about to walk away when she asked,

"Are you from Pakistan?"

He turned around, his deep blue eyes staring at her. "Yes. I am. Why do you ask?"

"Nothing," she gave a tight-lipped smile. "Just like that." For a moment, her eyes looked

around subtly, making sure that no one was around. "It was nice meeting you, Mr. Wali

Umer Khan," she whispered his name so only he could hear.

The mask cascaded down his face as a knowing look took its place. "Thank you, Ms.

Sheharzaad. I appreciate that," he said and walked away.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as soon as he was gone. The breath that had

been struck in her throat. It looked like she had been holding her breath all along.

The mission was accomplished. She had taken the first step towards her freedom. She

wanted it, or rather, she prayed for the mission to be successful. One mistake on her part,

and she would be a gone case. She prayed for the fates to be on her side this time.

She was playing with fire.

But it was better to play with fire than let the fire play with you. She was desperate to taste

freedom once again. She couldn't let this fire burn and destroy her.

'Sheharzaad. The FBI chief will come to meet you in Dubai. He just wanted to confirm

whether you deem fit for this role or not. He is a tall guy, with blue eyes. His name is Wali.

Real name: Wali Umer Khan. Many of us don't know his full name. Many are unaware of who

the new FBI chief is, as his identity is kept hidden on purpose. When he comes to meet you,

just call him once by his full name. Mr. Wali wanted to meet you, and the few minutes of

meeting would be enough for him to assess whether you fit for the job or not. If he gives a

positive response, then be assured, he has selected you for this mission. We are sure, with

his help and your cooperation, we are going to bring him down, and you will be free. He is

already under the radar of the FBI for his involvement in illegal activities, but due to lack of

evidence, he has not yet been caught. But it looks like we will finally be able to get a hold of

him.'

~Khaleda

She recalled the last letter Khaleda managed to send to her. The moment she called Wali

back to ask about his whereabouts was the moment she had sealed her fate with her own

hands.

This was the only chance she had to escape from his clutches. She knew she was taking a

huge risk. If she was caught, she would be doomed for life. But she had to take this chance of

escaping from him. The FBI is powerful; they will surely stop him, she believed.
