Chapter 47
Mason let out a cold snort. “Don’t try to intimidate me. It’s just transferring hospitals. How could she possibly become disabled?”
Jonathan glared back coldly. “Go ahead and try.” The atmosphere between the two
men was tense, on the brink of exploding.
Annabel, massaging her temples, spoke up. “Stop arguing. I’m already settled here. Why go through the trouble of transferring hospitals?”
Máson quickly replied, “This is Jonathan’s place. I don’t trust it.”
Annabel cut him off. “This is a hospital.”
Seeing that Annabel seemed unhappy, Mason feared her condition might worsen and kept quiet, only glaring at Jonathan.
“And you, Jonathan, what are you still doing here?” Annabel said. Jonathan was taken aback, while Mason felt a flicker of hope, about to make a sarcastic remark, when Annabel continued, “Aren’t you going to take care of the injury on your back?”
Jonathan’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Little Wildcat, are you worried about me?”
Annabel almost choked with frustration and simply stopped talking.
Jonathan, however, narrowed his eyes slightly, a clear sign that he was in a good mood. “I’ll go take care of my wound.”
Mason watched the two of them, his face darkening, but in the end, he didn’t say a word.
Once Jonathan left, Mason carefully asked Annabel what had happened and warned her to stay as far away from Jonathan as possible. Their relationship was becoming increasingly complicated.
Annabel didn’t say much, which only made Mason angrier.
During Annabel’s hospital stay, Mason frequently visited, and Jonathan made a point of showing up every day. People from Aether Studios also sent plenty of flowers and fruits, filling the ward.
One time, Mason and Jonathan happened to run into each other in the ward again.
Fed up with their constant bickering, Annabel sent Mason out to buy, something first.
Then she gritted her teeth and glared at Jonathan. “Mr. Turner, you don’t need to come to the hospital every day to see me.”
Jonathan spoke earnestly. “You got injured while saving me. I need to take responsibility.”
Annabel rolled her eyes. “I just didn’t want Aether Studios‘ reputation to be damaged. There’s no other meaning to it.”
A flicker of displeasure crossed Jonathan’s deep eyes. He took a few steps forward and placed both hands on either side of Annabel’s head.
Because they were so close, Annabel could clearly feel his breath on her face. Her heart remained calm, but her cheeks flushed red in an instant.
“What are you doing? Get out,” she said, pushing against Jonathan’s chest.
He suddenly grabbed her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it almost reverently. “Little Wildcat, be good and don’t make me angry.”
“Or,” Jonathan lowered his body even more, his eyes filled with
barely
trained desire, “I’ll have to punish you.”
Annabel, having experienced sex once before, was acutely aware of the change in Jonathan’s body.
Her cheeks turned even redder and felt hot. “Move away,” she said, her tone cold, which contrasted sharply with her expression.
Jonathan deliberately avoided Annabel’s injured leg with his long legs and pressed against her other leg, murmuring, “We’re both single now. Wouldn’t it

be perfect for us to be together?”
Enraged, Annabel tried to slap him with her other hand, but he caught it again and pinned both her hands above her head.
She glared at him furiously, but before she could say anything, her lips were captured by his cool, thin ones.
Annabel’s lips were soft and sweet, and the scent of citrus that lingered on her body only served to further arouse him. Jonathan wanted nothing more than to take her home right then and there. He deepened the kiss.
At first, Annabel resisted, but gradually she felt her strength ebb away, her mind going blank and her body feeling weightless. Sensing her state, Jonathan released her with a satisfied smile.
“Drink this soup. I had it specially prepared for you,” Jonathan said, pulling Annabel into his arms and holding a spoon to feed her.
Annabel had never been held like this before. When she came to her senses, she struggled again. “Let me go.”
“Finish it,” Jonathan said, his tone brooking no argument.
Annabel’s eyes turned slightly red with anger, and she felt a bit undignified as her eyes misted over.
Jonathan seemed not to notice, blowing on the soup to coot it before bringing the spoon to her lips. “As long as you finish this, I’ll let you go.”
She couldn’t use her fists now, but she thought to herself, ‘Once I’m better, I’m definitely going to teach this jerk a lesson. I won’t let him off the hook.”
Annabel still held on to her last bit of pride. “I’m not a child. I can drink it myself.”
She reached for the spoon, but Jonathan held it steady, chuckling lightly. “It’s a bit hot. Let me feed you.”
Annabel gritted her teeth, enunciating each word. “Jonathan, that’s enough.”
Seeing that she was genuinely angry, Jonathan quickly handed the spoon to Annabel. “Alright, you drink it yourself.”
Annabel took a few sips and had to admit the soup tasted really good. Once she finished, Jonathan kept his promise and gently placed her back on the
bed.
Jonathan was about to leave with a lunchbox when Annabel finally couldn’t hold back. “Jonathan, we’re not a good match, so you shouldn’t waste your
time on me.”
“Little Wildcat, you just drank my soup,” Jonathan said with a smile playing on his lips, turning to look at Annabel with amusement. “And now you want to get rid of me?”
“Get out,” Annabel threw a pillow at him in anger, but he easily dodged it and left with a laugh. Annabel clenched her fists in frustration.
When Mason came back and saw Annabel’s mood, he asked, “What did Jonathan do now?”
Annabel changed the subject, responding nonchalantly, “Nothing.”
Mason’s eyes darkened, his emotions unclear, but he just smiled easily and handed the items to Annabel.
They chatted for a while before Mason left. “Annabel, I’ll come pick you up to check out of the hospital tomorrow.”
Annabel was taken aback for a moment before nodding. “Okay.”
The next day, Jonathan didn’t come but sent a message: [Little Wildcat, remember to eat well. I’ll have some soup sent over tomorrow.]
Annabel replied: [No need. Thanks for before, but let’s just forget about it. We don’t owe each other anything.]
After sending the message, she sat in her wheelchair, waiting for Mason to finish the discharge procedures.
Chapter 47
As they left the ward, Mason asked, “Annabel, are we going to Magnolia Heights or back to the White residence?”
“To Aether Studios,” Annabel said flatly.
Mason frowned. “Your foot isn’t fully healed yet. It’s easy to
to get bumped into with all the people at the company.”
But Annabel didn’t respond, instead changing the subject. “Did you find out if it was a machine malfunction or someone deliberately trying to harm Jonathan?”
This was attempted murder. If Jonathan pursued it, the person who tampered with the machine could end up in jail for a very long time.
But if it really was related to Jonathan, Annabel had to get rid of him to avoid dragging Aether Studios into the mess.
Mason was pushing Annabel into the elevator when she suddenly stopped him. “I’ve found signs of human interference on the machine, but I haven’t been able to figure out yet whether it was targeted at Jonathan or not.”
Mason already knew Jonathan’s true identity, and he just wished that Jonathan could get as far away as possible.
Mason was pushing Annabel into the elevator when she suddenly stopped him. “Has my grandfather been discharged yet?”
Mason nodded. “No, he’s still in the hospital. Do you want to go see him?”
Annabel glanced down at her leg, which was still in a cast, and shook her head. “Never mind, let’s go.”
Back at Aether Studios, Mason handed Annabel the information he had found. “The person has been fired and sent to the police station. He claimed it was out of jealousy towards Jonathan.”
Annabel looked at the employee’s file in her hands, folding her arms. “I still feel like something is a bit off.”
Mason scoffed. “It’s not strange. With his personality, it’s normal for him to make enemies.”
