Chapter 29 Is it my illusion?
Alpha Elijah Alastair - POV
“Alpha Alastair, are you okay?” Alpha Cedric asked me as I reached the main table again.
“Yeah, I am fine.” I said when Alpha Cedric turned around to look at Maximus and his mate, who were huddled together near the drinks table deep in conversation.
“I saw you talking to Luna Evangeline before Maximus came there.” Alpha Cedric asked me.
“I was congratulating her on her new position when Alpha Aleuxs came and interrupted us.” I lied when Alpha Cedric nodded his head and took a sip of his wine.
“She is a strange woman.” Alpha Jace commented when a freron appeared on my face.
“Why is that?” I asked him when a half smile appeared on his face.
“Alpha Alexus told us that she was a rogue and that she lost her parents a few years ago. But the werewolf council keeps track of every rogue and pack member among our kind, and we never came across her name on the records," he said.
You will never find her name in any records.
“Alpha Alastair?” I was broken out of my trance when I saw Beta Murphy standing in front of me with a stoic look on his face. “The meeting will start in five minutes," he informed me when the elders got up from their seats.
“Shall we go, Elijah?” Alpha Cedric asked me when I nodded my head. I drank the rest of my wine and got up from my place, and right then Zane came and stood beside me.
“We are going to the meeting.” I told him when he nodded his head. Beta Murphy led us out of the ballroom down an empty corridor when we finally came to a stop in front of a closed door.
“You can wait inside. Alpha Alexus will be with you shortly.” Beta Murphy informed us as he opened the door to a study. As we walked in, I looked around the place when I heard heavy footsteps come towards the room. As I turned around, Maximus entered the room with his mate beside him.
“Great, shall we start the meeting?” Alpha Jace asked, but none of us said a word as we silently took a seat.
“Alpha Alexus, you know, this war has resulted in the lives of many brave soldiers, and it has deeply impacted our economy as well. ” Alpha Cedric began. “Is there any way that you could stop this war and come to an agreement?”
“Alpha Cedric, you have no idea what he is capable of.” Maximus began, his eyes burning in anger, anger I don't understand. “I have already requested you to arrest him for his crimes, but you didn't listen, so I had to take matters into my own hands.”
“I did not kill your sister, Maximus.” I growled when I saw his eyes glowing in anger.
“Wait, is that why you want Elijah dead?” Alpha Jace asked, but neither of us replied. No one knew why the fight between our two packs broke out since we have been best friends since childhood.
“Your scent was all over the crime place, and you expect me to believe that you didn't commit the crime?” Maximus mocked.
“Why would I want to kill your sister, Maximus?” I asked him when I saw a dark look cross his face.
“Because she found out something you did," he sassed when I felt my heart skip a beat. Maximus is the only person who knows everything I have done. I had to kill a few people in order to remain in power, and I have also collaborated with the witches for my benefits, and if that gets out, I know my career will be over.
A werewolf using magic is forbidden, and Maximus knows this very well.
But I never understood why he never used those against me. He could have simply put me behind bars, but instead he chose to wage war against my pack.
“What is going on in here?” Alpha Jace asked when I broke my eye contact and looked at him.
“I don't think we will reach an agreement, Alpha Jace.” I told him as I got up from my place ready to leave.
“I don't want you dead, Elijah.” Maximus said as I was about to leave when every eye in the room landed on Maximus. “I just want the world to see what you are trying to do," he said in a cryptic tone, and for a moment fear engulfed me.
“I told you this wouldn't work, Alpha Cedric.” I said before I stormed out of the office. I know the only reason I was standing there alive in Maximus’s office was because of the elders' protection. As I walked out of the pack house, Xane immediately brought out the car, and we got in and left his pack.
“What did Alpha Alexus mean by knowing everything about you, Elijah?” Zane asked me.
"That's none of your business.” I snapped as I looked out through the window. “You were right.”
“About what?”
"Antonella," I replied.
“So that was her?” he asked me.
“I am not sure, but I have a strong suspicion that it might be her.”
“It feels like our Luna. But did you realize that her scent is different?” Zane asked me when I turned to face him. I was too occupied in trying to get a reaction out of Luna Evangeline that I didn't pay attention to her scent.
“But you must have felt the mate pull, right?” Zane asked me when I felt my heart drop to my stomach. The spell that I used to create a mate bond between us broke the day she walked out of my pack.
“I know it's her,” I said with certainty.
“Then why didn't you tell the elders about that and bring her home with us?” Zane asked me.
“I can feel it, Zane. It is Antonella, but the elders would not believe me unless I showed them proof.”
“What are you going to do now?”
“I need to find a witch and figure out if it is possible to change someone’s appearance and scent.”
