Chapter 26 A fake promise
Antonella Erickson - POV
“He is right, Cedric.” Alpha Jace calmly stated when all eyes looked at him. “What benefit does Alpha Alexus have in hiding Alpha Alastair’s mate when he could use her as leverage?” Alpha Jace said when his eyes finally locked with mine. There was suspicion swirling in his iris, which made my heart begin to beat faster.
“I think we should put aside this war for a few days, Jace.” Alpha Cedric said when I quickly averted my eyes. “We are here for a celebration, and I think we should focus on that first.”
“You are right.” Alpha Jace said, but I could feel his stare burn the side of my face while I desperately tried to keep a calm demeanor. “So, what are your parents doing for a living, Miss Malcolm?”
“I…” My mind went blank, and for a moment I couldn't remember what I told the others about my parents when Alpha Alexus quickly intervened.
“Her parents are dead.”
“Oh?” Alpha Cedric exclaimed while a tense silence descended in the room. “I am sorry to hear that.”
"That's all right, Alpha Cedric. It happened a long time ago," I answered.
“Evangeline?” Maximus said as he abruptly hit up from his place, and without a word, I followed his actions. “Evangeline and I have a few things to attend to, so we will meet you at the ceremony.” Maximus told the alphas who nodded their heads.
Before I could say anything Maximus wrapped his hand around my waist and led me out of the living room. “Where are we going?” I asked him as we walked out of the pack house when I saw that the omegas were decorating the front lawn with tiny fairy lights and fresh flowers.
“You don't have a dress for the ceremony yet.” Maximus said in a duh tone, and right then a black BMS stopped right in front of us, and Maximus opened the back door for me.
“I will wear something I have, Maximus.” I told him when he gestured for me to get in.
“You are going to be the Luna of the Eclipse Moon pack, and I don't think it would be appropriate if you wore something simple, Evangeline.” Maximus commented as he got in and closed the door.
It was a short ten minutes' journey when the car stopped in front of a boutique that was in the packed town. Maximus got out of the vehicle and opened the door for me as he helped me out.
Alpha Elijah Alastair - POV
I smashed my hand against the desk as it broke into two pieces, and right then my office door burst open and Zane walked in. He clamly looked at the mess in front of me before he walked over to my coffee maker and made himself a cup.
“You know, there is a reason the werewolf council warned us to never make a deal with a rogue.” Zane calmly said when I glared at him. I know there is no way that Ralph would have told anything about our deal to my beta.
“Only a rogue could enter a witch’s place and come out of it alive.” I said, frustrated.
“I am not only your beta, Elijah. I am your best friend as well.” Zane began while my eyes were locked on him as he moved around my office when he finally took a seat on the couch. “But these past few years, since you mated with Antonella, you have changed a lot.”
“You are concerned that I don't share my personal life with you anymore?” I asked him in a sharp tone when a sarcastic smile appeared on his face. He was right; I stopped sharing everything with him the day my parents died. I didn't know whom to trust anymore, almost afraid that if my secrets got out, that would be the end for me.
“I respect your boundaries, Elijah. But I think you are going a little too far with Antonella’s case.”
“She is my mate, Zane. Do you expect me to just ignore that she is missing?” I asked him with a raised eyebrow.
“I know her disappearance isn't an accident, Elijah. She willingly left you, so why don't you let her go as well?”
“Just because I slept around with Madison doesn't mean I didn't love Antonella.” I sassed when a confused look appeared on his face.
“Fine, but why aren't you looking for Madison?”
“She is not my problem.” I said when he let out a humorless laugh.
“She is definitely your problem, Elijah. Her father has been calling me every day asking if we got any leads. He may be an alpha for a small pack, but if this goes to the werewolf council, it would cause a bigger problem.”
“Fine, send in a few of our warriors to look for her.” I told him when he took his head.
“I already did. But it is like she vanished without a trace.”
“Then I can't do anything about that, Zane. Now why on earth are you even here?” I asked him, staring, to get irritated with his presence.
“The rogue told me that he knows where Luna Antonella is, but I believe he had refused to give out the location?” Zane asked me when I nodded my head. “What does he want in return?”
“Apparently, when he went to meet the witch, they didn't really have a smooth conversation, and she has cursed him with a killing spell.” I explained.
“And he wants you to reverse it?” Zane asked me when I nodded my head.
“I am this close to finding her, but that rogue just refused to give me the location.” I told him as I ran my fingers through my hair, messing it up.
“You have taken a lot of wrong decisions, but I have stood by your side, and I am not going to let you down now.” Zane said when I raised an eyebrow at him.
“We need to find a witch to help us find a cure for that curse, Zane. Where are we going to find someone to help us?” I asked him when I saw a dark look cross Zane’s face.
“I will take care of that. But you need to promise me one thing.”
“What is it?”
“When you find Antonella, ask her forgiveness for what you did and ask if she still wants to continue this relationship with you.” Zane told me.
“What if she wants to leave?” I asked him.
“Then I want you to let her go, Elijah.”
