Chapter 21 An attack on the witch
Alpha Maximus Alexus - POV
“He sent a rogue to inquire about her whereabouts," the woman told me when my eyes caught a small silver nameplate that was attached to her blouse.
“Did Wilma tell him about Antonella?” I asked Anna when she shook her head.
“The rogue was furious when he figured out that we knew something and he attacked her. It wasn't easy to push him out of our territory when Mrs. Anderson performed a spell that no witch should ever use.” Anna’s voice was barely above a whisper as she looked down at the wooden floor.
“What is it?”
"It's like a curse. The rogue would not have long to survive, but that spell pushed her into a comatose state.” Anna explained.
“I am sorry this happened, Anna. I never wanted Wilma to get involved in this, but she insisted that she would help me and…” Guilt was gradually eating me as I averted my glance. The first time when Wilma showed me my future, I was petrified, then angry, and finally confused.
I have always dreamt of finding my mate, but when I saw that Antonella, Elijah’s mate, was my mate, I didn't know what to do. I kept telling myself that it must be an illusion. But Wilma argued otherwise, and I think it was a little hard to not believe her as well since she was one of the powerful witches among her race.
“Mrs. Anderson was researching ways to break your bond.” Anna’s words broke me out of my trance when I looked at her. Even though my heart squeezed in agony, I know that I would never be able to have Antonella as my mate.
She has kept her distance ever since she came to my pack, and she still sees me as nothing more than a friend who helped her escape. “Did she find anything?” I asked Anna when she shook her head.
“I am afraid not. But she has appointed me to help you from now on, Alpha Alexus.”
“That would be great, but not necessary, Anna. I don't want to put you in danger as well.” I told her and I turned around to leave when I felt her small hand wrap around my wrist.
“I have been with Mrs. Anderson for a long time, and I have learned one thing.” She paused, letting her words sink in. “She never helps anyone. She is a woman who follows every law that our council has set forth, but when it comes to you, she has made an exception. I don't know why, but I have never needed to question her either.”
“Wilma was a stubborn woman, and that was the only reason I allowed her to help me.” I said as you turned around to face her. “She never took no for an answer ever since my sister…” I trailed off, not having the courage to finish my sentence.
Even though it has been two years since she died, I am still not able to cope with it. But that was the first time Wilma stepped forward to help me take revenge even though she has been helping my family for decades.
“I am not asking for your permission, Alpha Alexus. Mrs. Anderson has made me promise that I would continue to help you until she gets back.” Anna was adamant, and I know that there is no point in arguing with her.
“Okay, but I don't think it's safe for you to stay in here anymore. The rogue knows too much, and he must have told everything to Elijah as well.” I held her when a frown appeared on her face.
“I don't have anywhere else to go, Alpha Alexus. And until Mrs. Anderson has told me to never leave this town," Anna insisted.
“You can come and stay with my pack.” I suggested when her eyes widened to the size of saucers. It is forbidden for a witch to step into a wolf, and that is why they mainly stay in no man’s territory.
“Everyone would know I am a witch, and it would only…”
"Well, no one in my pack knows who you are, so you can simply make a scent-altering perfume and then walk into my territory. No one would know.” I told her when I saw her think about my suggestion. “I will tell the pack that you are a doctor from a distant pack who has come to do her internship here.”
“Okay, I will come to your pack in a few days.” She finally told me when I nodded my head.
“I will see you then.” I told her, and when I was about to leave, she called my name.
“Mrs. Anderson had made a fresh stock of the concealment potion. She was supposed to send it to you today.”
“Do you have it?” I asked her when she nodded her head.
“Give me a minute; I will bring it for you.” Anna said when she walked towards the kitchen. Ten minutes later, she handed over a small box that had numerous vials of the potion inside.
“This would be enough for a week. I will make some more when I come to your pack," she told me when I nodded my head.
“Thank you.” I told her as I turned around and walked out of the restaurant.
Madison Smith - POV
The ground was damp as we hurried through the forest. “What’s your name?” I asked the man when I saw him slow down.
"Cedric," he said in a monotone as we continued walking. My lungs were burning from the lack of oxygen, but I did not complain. Cedric risked his life to save mine. The sun was gradually setting on the horizon when Cedric finally came to a stop and turned around to face me.
“Once you cross this river and walk towards the north for a few kilometers, you will find a small town. You can catch a bus from there and leave this place.” he told me when I nodded my head.
“Thank you so much. I will never forget what you did for me.” I told him, but he stood as still as a statue. Letting out a breath, I turned around and took a few steps towards the river when he spoke.
“Are you sure that you are Alpha Alastair’s true mate?”
