Chapter 16 She is a savior
Antonella Erickson - POV
“Get down!” Rachel screamed when I quickly went under the table while Cynthia and Rachel ran outside. My heart was hammering against my chest when I saw Rachel and Cynthia shift into their wolves and join in the fight.
I was almost awestruck at how fast Rachel was, and within minutes she had killed three wolves when I saw the pack warriors come and join the fight. “Ma'am, come out!” I heard someone yell behind me, and as I turned my head, I saw the waitress. “Let’s go!” She urged me, and without a second thought, I crawled out from under the table and followed her.
The entire restaurant was trashed, tables overturned, chairs broken, while everyone ran towards the back exit. “Go!” The waitress pushed me towards the door, and I nodded my head as I ran out into the forest.
I had no idea where the safe house was located because by the time I was out of that restaurant the pack members had already left. “We need to keep moving, Ella. We can't stay here.” Lia growled in my head. Even though I am a trained wolf, I have never fought with a rogue before, and I don't think I want to try it out now.
I looked around my surroundings before I ran towards where I hoped the pack house was. I was only a few feet away from the restaurant when I heard the sound of heavy footsteps. I turned around when I saw two gray wolves chasing me down.
Shit!
I forced myself to run faster, but the wolves were faster than me when I felt a sharp claw grab my leg and pull me down.
“Get off me!” I growled as I tried to push it away when a sinister smile appeared on its face. He pressed his claw deeper into my skin, making my eyes water. My hands searched for anything on the ground when they held onto a branch, and without a second thought, I swung the branch hard against his head, making him stagger and let me go.
I quickly crawled out, but before I could stand, the second wolf grabbed me and pinned me to the ground. I squeezed my eyes closed while Lia was thrashing within me to be let out. I felt his claws dig into my hip while his hot breath fanned my neck.
My heart was hammering against my chest when I thought everything was over; the weight was suddenly lifted off. I turned around when I saw a sandy brown-colored wolf had tackled the grey wolf.
She let out a warning growl, and before she could kill him, both of them ran deeper into the forest. I sat up while my eyes were locked on the wolf who began walking towards me. “Rachel?” I called out, and within seconds she shifted back into her human form.
Her face was etched with worry when she quickly came to my side. “Are you okay?” she asked me while she examined my wounds.
“I think these will heal.” I replied as I looked down at my thigh and my hip. The adrenaline rush was gradually dissolving, and that was when the pain hit me. “Thank you for saving my life.” I told her when a small smile appeared on her face.
“Like I said before, you are the Luna of this pack now, and I will protect your life with my own,” she vowed.
“Evangeline!” I looked behind Rachel when I saw Maximus running towards us with a few warriors in tow. Rachel quickly got up from the ground and shifted into her wolf before she ran deeper into the forest. “Are you all right?” he asked me when he knelt down on the ground.
There was panic in his eyes while his hands traveled down my body until they stopped by my wounds. This was not the first time I got injured, but no one has ever looked this petrified seeing me in pain, not even Elijah. “The wound isn't healing," he commented, breaking me from my trance.
“It will heal.” I said, but Maximus shook his head. He looked extremely worried when he got up and soon scooped me in his arms and began walking toward the pack house.
“Why didn't you shift into your wolf and fight back?” he asked me.
“I have never shifted in front of anyone except Elijah.” I replied when a frown appeared on his face.
“Why is that?” he asked me when I shrugged my shoulders.
When I first shifted, my parents were shocked and alarmed when they saw my coat color. They never told me the reason for their reaction, but my mother made me promise to never shift in front of anyone except my mate. It wasn't easy living a life like that, but after some time, I got used to it. “Antonella?” I was broken out of my train of thoughts when I looked up to see that Maximus was already looking down at me. “Why didn't you shift?”
“I wasn't sure if I still had the Luna mark or not since my bond with Elijah broke.”
“I never thought about that," he muttered, and right then I saw the hospital come into view, and Rachel was standing by the entrance wearing an oversized black t-shirt with a pair of shorts.
“I have already informed the doctor; you can take her to the emergency room," she told Maximus when he nodded his head and walked inside.
The emergency room was crowded when Maximus placed me on a private bed, and soon two nurses came to take a look at my wounds. It took them an hour to shop for the bleeding, and once the wounds were bandaged, I was given some painkillers, which instantly put me into a deep sleep.
“Was it Elijah’s men?” I woke up to the sound of whispering.
“No, they were rogues.” That sounded like Beta Murphy.
“How did they even enter our pack?” The curtains around my bed were drawn, but I could see Maximus and Beta Murphy standing right outside.
“That is what we are still investigating. But there's no clue.”
“If they can...”
“Maximus?” That sounded like Rachel when I heard her soft footsteps approach my bed.
“Rachel, I told you to take some rest.” I heard Maximus’s sharp voice.
“Did you find anything about these rogues?”
