n’t won even once.”
“Losing to a kid over four, if it gets out, it’s really embarrassing.
“Grandpa, if you’re still not convinced, we can play again, you can search me”
“Jacob actually wanted to go easy on the old man, but he was too shrewd, if he deliberately held back, he’d spot it right away.”
“As a chess player, he still needed to keep some competitive spirit.”
“Scott looked at his grandson’s outfit he bought himself, it couldn’t fit a phone, and the kid played so fast, cheating was impossible.”
“You must have inherited it from me, I was this smart when I was young.”
“Scott laughed heartily and decided to take Jacob to see his old buddies tomorrow to show off.”
“Yes, and remember to bring the chessboard, so Jacob can win back those lands he lost before.”
“At home, Katherine poured tea for the grandfather and grandson.”
“It’s almost ten o’clock, time to sleep.”
“You go to sleep yourself, you have another blind date tomorrow, don’t mess it up.”
“Scott wished he could shoo Katherine the third wheel away.”
Katherine sighed helplessly, ready to leave.
Then came an even more exasperating development.
Scott’s phone rang–Grandfather Albert calling.
“Well now, Grandfather Albert! What can I do for you?”
Scott switched on speakerphone.
“Isn’t young Alex getting engaged the day after tomorrow?
Why not strengthen family ties? Let’s arrange an engagement between Sean and Katherine too.

What do you think, in–laws?”
Grandfather Albert repeatedly called him “in–laws” with unusual warmth.

Scott had worried Katherine’s pregnancy would deter the prestigious Robson family. Yet here was notoriously difficult Grandfather Albert proposing an engagement with such affection
Under Katherine’s frantic gestures, Scott blurted: “Absolutely! Yes!”
“But… our Katherine made some mistakes in her youth…”
Scott felt compelled to mention Katherine’s pregnancy.
Grandfather Albert cut him off: “I know everything. Sean confessed. He’s not exactly a saint
either. As long as Katherine accepts him, it’s settled. We’ll host the engagement banquet later–just piggyback on Alex’s event the day after tomorrow to announce it publicly.”
“Perfect. Wonderful.”
Scott beamed with joy, nodding emphatically.
Katherine never imagined Scott and Albert would settle her marriage in just a few words.
She knew she had no right to refuse–only to accept.
“Let me make this clear: Jacob isn’t his son. If they kick me out later, don’t blame me.”
“Nonsense! Go buy some nice clothes tomorrow. Now get out of here–don’t disturb Jacob and me playing chess.”
Scott wished he could disown this daughter and focus solely on raising his brilliant grandson.
Katherine left utterly dejected.
Fearing Maureen might be unprepared, she called her privately to warn her.
After the Edward incident, Maureen stopped helping. Heather said nothing–family matters should stay within the family.
Edward remained hospitalized, publicly claiming he’d “accidentally fallen into the river.
Lounging on the sofa, Maureen asked Geoffrey: “Do you remember Sean now?”
Geoffrey kept lying: “Not really.”

“It’s either remember or not. What’s ‘not really“?”
Maureen pressed, “I don’t think Scan is a good person.

That man was volatile and ungrateful. Someone as devoted as Kate deserved better than him
“Hmm, I agree.”
Geoffrey immediately chimed in.
Sean, far away at the Robson residence, sneezed.
Maureen hadn’t expected Sean’s friend Geoffrey to agree with her. She pressed on, “Then what if he bullies Katherine?”
Geoffrey answered without hesitation, “Don’t worry, he won’t.”
Katherine was Maureen’s friend–he’d never let Sean mistreat her.
“How can you be sure?
Do you know him that well?
Didn’t you say you don’t remember him?”
Geoffrey faltered, then backtracked, “Just a gut feeling.”
Alex, who always relied on skill, now leaned on intuition.
“I hope you’re right. If he dares hurt Katherine, I’ll make him pay!”
Maureen murmured.
“I’ll back you up,
Geoffrey added.

His promise settled Maureen’s nerves. Sean might be trouble, but he feared Geoffrey most.
Even blind, Geoffrey still commanded Sean’s respect.
Warm conversation filled the room.
Outside, Alex sat alone in a car.
He stared toward Geoffrey’s room, eyes dark with memories of moments shared with Maureen.

Chapter310
“Brother Geoff, I don’t want to go back. Why can’t we stay out here forever??”
“If only time would freeze right now.”
Alex coughed heavily, unable to stop for quite some time.
He loathed his current disease more than anything–if not for this illness, Maureen should have
married him.
Why hadn’t he dared to tell her his real name back then?
Night fell, and Alex spent the whole night sitting in the car.
The Engagement Party was set to begin the next day.
Even before the festivities started, many high society figures had arrived.
Maureen attended with Geoff. Since he couldn’t see, they chose a quiet corner to sit.
