Chapter 26
The first time they met, she put her hair up in a ponytail. She looked shy when she smiled. Her eyes were especially
gorgeous.
A frown crept onto Geoffrey’s face when he realized she’d never smiled like that again, ever since she married him.
The ringtone alarmed him.
Geoffrey took his phone. It was a call from Sean.
“Geoffrey, something happened to Maureen.”
After Sean learned that Maureen was pregnant, he asked the hospital clerks to pay attention to her and keep him post- ed.
Geoffrey’s heart skipped a beat when he heard Sean’s words.
“What is it?”
“I don’t know how it happened, but the doctor told me today that Maureen died.”
As if struck by lightning, Geoffrey was petrified.
She died?
How was it possible?
They had just talked the night before, and she was fine then.
Geoffrey jerked up from the couch and felt dizzy. “What happened?”
“According to the doctor, she was delivered to the hospital last night. They did what they could, but couldn’t save her. She died today.”
Without another word, Geoffrey grabbed his suit jacket and stormed out the door.
He drove straight to the hospital.
Along the way, he kept thinking of what Maureen had said before he left last night.
“Mr. Sutton, if I die, will you be sad?”
Somehow, he felt suffocated.
Even after he pulled off the top two buttons of his shirt, he still had trouble breathing.
Finally, he reached the hospital.

Sean was waiting for him downstairs.
“Where’s she?” Geoffrey trotted to him.
“The nurse said someone took her body. I checked the surveillance camera. It was Gareth.”
It was 1 a.m.
Sean was tired and showed Geoffrey the video.
“Maureen was brought to the hospital at midnight last night. For what, I don’t know. She died of a massive hemor- rhage.”
She was brought to the hospital at midnight.
That was soon after Geoffrey left.
What happened back then?
She died of a massive hemorrhage? He didn’t believe it.
Geoffrey immediately had his men locate Gareth and Maureen.
Tonight, many people were gonna be sleepless.
Sean paced back and forth.
“How could someone suddenly die just like that?
“What’s the deaf girl up to this time?”
Geoffrey wasn’t in the mood to discuss this. He left after asking Sean to find out what happened at the hospital.
The director of the hospital handed Maureen’s examination reports to Sean.
Sitting in a swirl chair, Sean opened the file impatiently.
Before, he only knew Maureen had been hospitalized for overdosing on sleeping pills and that she was pregnant.
But this file contained her medical records at other hospitals.
Due to her aggravating hearing impairment, she’d lost her hearing completely. Apart from that, she also had other problems, including spontaneous car bleeding, severe depression, forgetting, and infertility.
About the cause of her death, the report said she overdosed on sleeping pills due to long–term depression. It led to delusion. As a result, she slit her wrist and died of a massive hemorrhage.
Sean was horrified.
The director of the hospital sighed, “She was a sweet young girl. I can’t believe she suffered so much. Mr. Robson, she saved your life four years ago. You must help her this time.”

“What did you just say?” Sean looked up, confused. “Someone else saved me, not her.”
“Someone else?” The director was puzzled. “I remember clearly it was her. Her arm was left with a long wound from glass. Please look at this picture.”
He remembered that the girl rushed to the hospital, covered with blood, four years ago.
He wasn’t the director yet back then.
Regardless of her own wound, she grabbed him, told him something had happened, and asked him to hurry to save people.
It turned out the person he saved was the son of the Robson family.
He was promoted to director afterward.
Although it had been years, he still remembered what the girl was like, especially the hand–sized wound in her arm.
Despite the severe injury, she didn’t shed a tear. She just wanted to save people. It was incredible.
Sean looked at the picture carefully. There was indeed a hand–sized old scar on Maureen’s slim, fair arm.
He was stunned.
It must be a coincidence.
It must be.
If Maureen had saved his life, why hadn’t she said anything about it?
If it was her, those horrible things he had done to her…
Thinking of this, Sean closed the file and went to his office.
He stayed there all night.
Early the next morning, he called Andrea.
“Andie, can we meet? I need to talk with you about something.”
In a private room of a restaurant.
Andrea appeared, looking fabulous.
A waitress took her coat,
Sean fixed his gaze on her smooth arms. There was no scar.
He had a car accident four years ago,
He was trapped, unconscious, covered with blood.
A girl risked her own life to save him. She reached through the broken window to open the car door.

Her arm was cut by the glass. The director said the wound must be stitched.
Naturally, it would leave a scar.
Sean’s stare unnerved Andrea.
“Sean, you said you wanted to talk. What do you wanna talk about?”
Sean regained his senses.
He withdrew his gaze and said coolly, “Maureen died.”
Andrea was surprised.
Then, she asked, “When? What a shock.”
Deep down, she was ecstatic.
Maureen was dead!
The last barrier between her and Geoffrey was gone!
“Today. There was a massive hemorrhage. The doctors couldn’t save her.”
Sean picked up his glass, swirled the wine gently, and gulped it.
Through the glass, he surveyed Andrea. There was a transient trace of joy in her face.

“It must be fate,” Andrea sighed. “She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Ordinary people couldn’t obtain that kind of wealth and power all their lives. Then, she used her family’s influence to force Geoff into marrying her. Now, she’s dead. What can I say? Karma is a bitch.”
Karma?
For the first time, Sean found Andrea horrible.
Yes, Maureen was born into a rich family. But was it her fault?
And Geoffrey and Maureen got married to form a marital alliance between their families.
No one could force Geoffrey.
Why did Andrea think Maureen deserved to die because of these things?
Sean didn’t respond. The temperature in the quiet room seemed to have plummeted.
Realizing that she had misspoken, Andrea explained, “Sean, you know me. I was only talking about Maureen. She was too scheming.”
“Hmm.” Sean refilled his glass.
Come to think of it, Andrea kept telling him how scheming Maureen was.

But as far as he knew, Maureen had never done anything like that.

If he had to point out one thing, that would be that she loved Geoffrey so much she flattered everyone around him, in- cluding Sean.
Did that count as scheming?
The wine suddenly became tasteless.
Sean had trusted Andrea for four years. How could she be a liar?
She risked her own life for him. How could she be a bad person?
His voice was hoarse when he said, “Andie, I’ve been dreaming of the day you saved my life lately.
“You told me not to be scared and that everything would be OK.
“I survived because of you.
“Do you remember?”
