Chapter 189
After leaving Alex’s room.
Heather hurried to his side: “The doctor said Alex’s recovery this time is a miracle. I believe it won’t be long before he can stand up again.”
Geoffrey had no mind for blessings at this moment, radiating coldness.
“I rather hope he never stands up again!”
With that, he left without a care for Heather’s shocked expression.
Geoffrey drove all the way back to Pearl, with Maureen and Alex’s voices echoing in his mind.
“I mistook the person.”
“The one she likes is me, and the one she wants to marry is also me.”
Geoffrey had a terrible headache. The continuous lack of rest was wearing him down, but he didn’t want to sleep.
Finally, he arrived at Pearl.
Geoffrey took a bottle of wine and sat alone on the sofa, listening to the wind and snow outside, recalling what had happened after he got engaged to Maureen.
After he ignored Maureen and even treated her coldly, she once said: “I feel like you’ve changed.”
It turned out that it wasn’t he who had changed.
Geoffrey poured the wine into a glass and downed it in one go.
One glass after another, until the whole bottle was finished. His headache grew worse.
Leaning against the sofa, Geoffrey muttered to himself: “You lied to me!”
Perhaps because of the alcohol, he finally managed to fall asleep.

On the other side, Katherine had known all along where Maureen was going. So she bought two plane tickets and prepared to set off the next day.
Jacob asked worriedly, “Aunt Katherine, are we leaving now?
Won’t people find it strange?”
He actually wanted to remind Katherine that leaving now might draw Geoffrey’s attention.
“Yes, your Mommy’s waiting. She won’t rest easy until you’re with her.”
Hearing this, Jacob fell silent.
He knew what troubled his mother.
If only he weren’t so young and helpless.
But he wouldn’t give up. When grown, he’d return to make everyone who hurt her pay.
Before dawn the next day, Katherine took Jacob to the airport car.
Their tail called Geoffrey.
Geoffrey fought dizziness grabbing his phone: “Report.”
“Katherine’s taking the kid to the airport.”
Geoffrey shot up from the sofa.
“Follow them. Learn their destination.”
“Sir.”
Hanging up, Geoffrey snatched his coat and rushed out.
The nap had cleared his head somewhat.
He’d guessed it – those kids weren’t Gareth’s at all!
Geoffrey didn’t head to the airport. Instead, he returned to Springwood and had someone deliver Ethan’s used toothbrush to the hospital for testing.
Meanwhile, Katherine and Jacob had already boarded their flight, unaware they were being

followed.
Staring at the endless expanse of white clouds outside, Katherine sighed in relief.
“We’ll finally be able to live in peace.”
Jacob remained silent, seemingly lost in thought.
Katherine assumed he missed his kindergarten friends and reassured him: “Don’t worry, I’ll bring Dongyang to visit you later.”
Only then did Jacob snap out of it, glancing at her. “Okay.”
Before Katherine could say more, Jacob picked up the in–flight newspaper.
The headline still covered Andrea’s scandal–public interest won’t die down within a week, especially since the world saw her as Geoffrey’s girlfriend.
Jacob skimmed a few lines before losing interest. He covered his face with the dozed off.

Katherine watched the little rice cake beside her, struck by how unnaturally mature he acted for a child.
No wonder he’d never asked for his father or home during their days in Karaville.
Even now, returning abroad, he remained utterly composed.
With seven or eight hours until they reached the port city of Metro Center where Maureen lived, Katherine too drifted into sleep.
Eight hours later.
Due to the time difference, it was nighttime at Metro Center when they arrived.
Maureen had been waiting there early. She saw two figures, one big and one small, coming

“Jacob, Katherine.”
She jogged up to Jacob and hugged him.
Jacob, being hugged, blushed a rosy pink.
“Mommy.”

“Let’s go home first.”
At home, Zoe and the nanny were preparing dinner, with Ethan helping nearby.
“Grandma, you forgot to add salt again.”
Zoe patted her forehead. “Oh, my memory is failing me.”
“When Ethan grows up, he’ll cook for Grandma.”
“My Ethan is so thoughtful.”
The nanny came over. “Auntie Yun, you’re not feeling well. Go rest.”
“When Maureen comes back later, she’ll blame me again.”
Zoe had no choice but to take Ethan to the living room. While waiting, she watched the domestic news.
The news anchor ranted: “After the scandal of famous diva Andrea, Sutton Group’s stock has hit limit–down for days straight. Still no word from CEO Geoffrey.”
Zoe clenched her fists.
“Serves him right!”
The door clicked open. Zoe turned off the TV and hurried to greet the three.
