Chapter 60 The Fight

Day Six

The day started as every other day had this week. We ate breakfast and went to training. Around lunch time, the Blood king showed up with his pack of rogues and a few vampires as well.

“Young king, he sneered. “Have you decided what you are going to do?”

“We have. You cannot have Scarlett. You will have to fight us to get to her.” I replied.

“As you can see, that is not a problem for me. But it might be for you.” He laughed.

“We will see.”

Since we had so many groups, and not everyone was a member of my pack, there was at least one member of Hyacintho Lunar in each group. I called through the mindlink for everyone to get ready for a fight.

Just as everyone came running, I was hit with something. I fell to the ground, my head bleeding. I stumbled trying to get up. My mother rushed to me and helped me steady myself. I was seeing doubles, but I felt I could still fight. The blood kings lackeys rushed in. Everyone broke off into their groups and did exactly what they were trained to do. The fae focused on protective barriers around their groups. The witches used their magic and every lycan shifted. I shifted into my wolf as well. We rushed at the rogues and wanderers, splitting them up. Taylor cast the spell to keep the Blood King from teleporting and then joined Mary back in our group.

The fight was going well for us. I spotted the Blood King trying to flee and headed for him. When my group finished off their last rogue they ran to join me. They were a little late. The Blood King turned around faster than I thought was possible, even for a vampire. With his nails elongated, he nearly ripped my throat out as I lunged toward him. I fell to the ground and the light faded.

I found myself in the spirit realm. The moon goddesses were surprised to see me.

“What are you doing here, it’s too soon,” they said in unison.

“I don’t know what happened. I was attacking the Blood King and then I was here.”

“This isn’t good,” Selene said. We went over to the bowl of time and looked down on the battle taking place.

Zeus was still lying on the ground, barely moving. How was he still there and I was here?

“You have separated from your wolf. He must be severely injured.” Celeste said.

“You must return to him at once so he can heal properly,” Selene implored.

“How? I didn’t even know I could separate from my wolf,” I stated.

“We will help you.” They said in unison.

They said a little chant and I was back in my wolf. The fight was raging all around me. I couldn’t see the Blood King anywhere. I managed to heal enough that Zeus was able to get up. We found our group and continued to fight. Zeus’s fur was coated in blood and I wondered if we should shift into Max.

“NO!” Zeus screamed at me. “I will be okay. We must keep fighting.”

“If you think you can then, yes, we will keep fighting,” I said.

We fought with all we had. Eventually the fight was over. Zeus collapsed again, exhausted and still losing a lot of blood. I begged him to shift. But he refused. Mary and Taylor rushed over and began using their healing spells. And I slipped back to the spirit realm again.

This time, the sisters were expecting me.

“You’re back,” they said in unison.

“Why? We won the fight. Zeus was just exhausted. The witches were healing us.”

“Zeus sent you here. He doesn’t think he is going to make it and to keep you and Max safe, you sent you here. He sent you a little early the first time. He still needed to fight.” Celeste said.

“What do you mean? Keep us safe. He’s not going to make it, even with the healing spells?” I asked.

“Zeus was never meant to be your wolf. He was your absorbed twin’s wolf. They are dying. It will be just you and Max from now on. Don’t forget who you are, EJ. You are the King and half god. You have more power than you realize, but the chimera must die so you can be reborn.” Selene said.

I didn’t know what she meant but I was suddenly back in Zeus. He was unconscious. I could hear everyone panicking and Mary trying to reassure them. But I was trapped. I couldn’t even mindlink anyone. I heard Mary say I was in a coma. That I would be until I was fully healed.

I laid there wondering when I would be healed, wondering if I was really going to lose Zeus.

“It will be okay, he will get to go home again,” Max said.

“I know, but I will miss him. He has been a part of us for so long.”

“I will miss him, too. Not his bad breath, though.” Max laughed. I laughed, too. Zeus did have some stinky breath, even for a wolf. His breath just always smelled like death.

“What do you think Selene meant by ‘we must be reborn’?” I asked.

“I hope it doesn’t mean someone will give birth to us again,” Max said.

“Me, too.”

Max and I talked for hours about everything and nothing. We listened when people were in the room to see if there was any news. My mother begged and pleaded for me to wake up. I tried with no success. Taylor and Mary still came in periodically to work their magic. What surprised me was Scarlett. She was in tears apologizing for not doing more to help. It made me wonder what more she could have done.

After she left I realized how tired I was. How can I be tired if I’m in a coma? There must be something else going on. “Hhhh,” I yawned and fell asleep.
