Chapter 17: Two Vampires At Dinner (Part I)
February
Things slowly returned to normal-well normal for werewolves and vampires. Jordan and Morgan sat on the couch across from Demetri at Jordan’s side of the house.
“So how is your Beloved?” She asked.
He scratched the back of his neck. “I think fine. She’s smiling more and-“ His words stopped as he saw the smirks on their faces.
“You owe me twenty dollars. I told you I’d get him to admit it.” Morgan said laughing, as Jordan handed her twenty dollars.
“Definitely thought he wouldn’t fall for that; he’s been denying it for months.”
Demetri glared at them both.“You two bet on me?”
“Yeah, you’re still in denial.”
“I’m not. She’s not my beloved.”
Morgan shook her head. “Demetri, can I give you a word of advice? You really need to sort out your feelings for Alexus and soon. She’s not going to stick around for uncertainly…especially after how hard she took dad’s death.” He swallowed his spit, as a lump formed in his throat.
Sterling joined them on the couch. “Yeah don’t be like Albert Einstein over here who made the conclusion chewing on Morgan was the best way to ask her on a date.”
Jordan glared at his brother. “Don’t bring your dumb shit in here Sterling, Morgan and I are having a couple's time.”
Sterling’s eyes widened. “W-without me?”
Morgan laughed. “Yes! I’ve literally been with you the entire week while Jordan’s been gone for work.”
“SO THAT’S IT HUH? USE ME AND ABUSE ME AS SOON AS YOUR PRETTY HUSBAND GETS BACK HOME! I WILL NOT BE IGNORED MORGAN! I’M PREGNANT AND YOU’RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THIS BABY!”
She laughed loudly. “Sterling-“
He put his head on her shoulder. “I’M SORRY…I KNOW I WENT TO FAR WITH THAT ONE BUT I’M JEALOUS! I WANT SOME ATTENTION.”
Jordan seethed. “And you think that I don’t?! I’ve literally been gone a week Sterling!”
“I DON’T GIVE A DAMN IF YOU WERE AWAY BUILDING IGLOOS! YOU DON’T GET TO COME IN AND STEAL LITTLE RED! YOU ALREADY GET THE SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT AT DENNYS JORDAN! YOU CAN’T GET EVERYTHING YOU WANT!”
“I’M LITERALLY TWO MINUTES OLDER THAN YOU, YOU LITTLE SHIT!”
“KNOCK IT OFF YOU TWO!” Morgan stood. “I’M SO SICK OF YOUR FIGHTING!” Storming off to the bedroom, Morgan left Jordan and Sterling with red faces.
Demetri clasped his hands. “Umm soo I don’t know much about pregnancy…but I think that you two are stressing her out a bit. Maybe you should try to get along better?”
Tears welled in Sterling’s eyes. “Oh my God! If Moses’ best friend can even pick up on that, we're really screwing up things. Boy sitting over there older than Jesus’s sandals and he more observant than us Jordan!”
Jordan huffed.“Stop it, Sterling…Morgan is really upset, and Demetri might have a point…we have been at each other’s throats a bit much, and she’s still grieving too.” And at the thought of the fact he was stressing out his Little Red, Sterling actually shook his head and sat quietly. Jordan leaned forward. “Demetri, I know we were supposed to discuss the new layout, but can we reschedule? We need to talk to our wife.”
After Demetri left, Sterling and Jordan, knocked on the bedroom door. “Can we come in Little Red?”
She sighed.“Fine.” With their tails between their legs, the two sat opposite sides their Luna.
“We’re sorry Morgan. We didn’t mean to stress you out. We know sometimes we push you too far.” Sterling whispered. They saw the tears in her eyes.
“It’s not just that.”
Jordan’s eyes widened. “What’s wrong?”
Immediately Morgan flew into a frenzy. “I WADDLED YESTERDAY LIKE A DAMN PENGUIN! I’M NOT EVEN THAT BIG AND I WADDLED! NOTHING FITS! I DON’T HAVE THE GLOW! WHERE THE FUCK IS MY GLOW?! RACHEL LOOKS A RADIANT SEAL AND I LOOK LIKE A DAMN ASHY WALRUS! MY FEET HURT, I HAVE HORRIBLE GAS, I SNEEZE TOO HARD, I PEE! I’M SOOO HORNY ALL THE TIME, BUT I HATE THE WAY YOU BOTH SMELL. YOUR SMELLS PISS ME OFF! BUT I CAN’T SAY THAT BECAUSE THEN I’LL CRY FOR BEING MEAN TO YOU! AND I LOVE YOU BOTH, BUT SOMETIMES YOU MAKE ME WANT TO PUNCH YOU IN THE FUCKING FACE! OH NO! THAT WAS MEAN!”
She looked from one of them to the other in horror, her face stained with tears. “I HAVE TWO BABY DADDIES AT THE SAME TIME! IT’S CONFUSING AND IT MAKES ME MAD BECAUSE I CAN’T EVEN DROP KICK THE ONE THAT KNOCKED ME UP BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW! I FEEL LIKE AN EPISODE OF MAURY! WHERE’S THE CAMERA HUH? WHERE’S THE CAMERA MAN THAT’S ABOUT TO CHASE ME OFF THE STAGE BECAUSE I NAMED THE WRONG PERSON?! OH MY GOD! THAT’S MEAN! I’M SORRY! I’M SORRY!”
Jordan clasped her face. “Breathe Mrs. Wolf.” Morgan nodded, slowly calming.
Sterling laid his head in her lap.“Hey…we love you okay? You’re not being mean, you’re sharing your feelings…aggressive feelings that kind of scare me…but still feelings.”
Jordan laid his head on her shoulder. “We’re sorry. We know this is a little stressful, but there are three things I think Sterling and I can agree on and that’s, we’re both really excited to be dads…equally, just like we’re really happy to be your husbands…equally and that you are MOST CERTAINLY beautiful to us both Mrs. Wolf.” Morgan smiled happily as her two husbands rubbed her stomach. “Hey in there, knock it off before your mother kicks our asses.”
She laughed. “OH! That reminds me, I got something today!” Jordan and Sterling watched as she grabbed a bag. “I got a gender-neutral color, that way it doesn’t matter whether it’s a boy or a girl.” She pulled out a little onesie, written on the front was
“Blessed With Two Amazing Dads”
Sterling's eyes widened, and he jumped up. “THIS IS BETTER THAN JORDAN’S SUNSHINE PLANT! I LOVE IT.”
Standing, Jordan kissed her on the head. “Excuse me.” She chuckled and turned to Sterling and they both said the same time.
“He’s totally about to cry.”
---------------------------------------------
Alexus looked up to see a large bat with a football helmet and little pillow taped to its chest. “I-is it safe to come in Mad Scientist?”
She found herself laughing at the sight so hard, that she almost dropped her beaker. “Why are you dressed like that?”
Demetri's batty face smirked at her. “Because last time, you accidentally made a bomb and I walked into it.”
Her face flushed. “Well…at least we can use it for a weapon.”
He nodded. “Yeah the way I tore across the room, I know an enemy doesn’t stand a chance.”
She looked down at her beakers. “Don’t tease me.”
He flew over and kissed her cheek. “No go Little One, I’m never letting you live that down. Now, are you free for a moment? I want to show you something.” Shifting, Demetri walked with Alexus down the large hallway.
“What do you need all these rooms for?”
He laughed. “They came with the castle.” Opening a door to a room she’d never been in, Alexus's jaw dropped. There were beakers, microscopes, test tubes everywhere. “I may have overdone it a bit, but I wasn’t sure what you would need.”
She looked at him. “You did this for me?”
He smiled and nodded. “I even got it ventilated that way Mavier won’t pass out like last time. I know you’re tired of working on stuff in our bedroom and then I realized It wouldn’t hurt to have a complete lab for you in our house.”
Alexus looked at him, wondering if he realized what he’d said. Seeing his face redden, she saw the exact moment the words connected with his brain. Before he could backtrack, she pulled him down to her and kissed him, sliding her tongue into his mouth. She saw his eyes redden, before he pulled away, making her tug on the sleeve of her hoodie.
“Sorry…”
“It’s fine Little One, I really hope you enjoy the lab.” With that Demetri walked away, leaving Alexus wondering what she’d done wrong.
------------------------------------
Demetri paced back and forth in his office on the phone. “I can’t just ask her! That’s a terrible idea! You know I’m horrible at this stuff…but Elijah…no…yes Rachel, I certainly understand you’ll clip me to the clothesline by my little batty toes, if I don’t ask…no, yes…the couch was enough…” He was trying his best to work up his nerve to ask Alexus to dinner. “That was different! I was mad at her; I can be quite charming when I’m enraged.” He rolled his eyes. “So you two really expect me to just walk up and say Alexus would you like to have dinner with me?! I can’t do that, because then she’ll think it's a date!”
“What’s so wrong with asking me on a date?”
“BLOODY HELL!” Demetri screamed, seeing Alexus batty face, glaring at him under his arm. “DON’T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!”
“DON’T CHANGE THE SUBJECT! ANSWER MY QUESTION!”
Getting off the phone with Elijah and Rachel, Demetri glared at Alexus. “Will you shift back?” She rolled her eyes before shifting into her human form. He chuckled. “Guess I won’t have to worry about you colliding with my face again.”
“Not with that attitude you won’t.”
His mouth dropped at the realization of his word choice. “YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANT!”
“Answer my question Demetri. What’s so wrong with asking me on a date?”
He sighed. “Nothing. I would really enjoy it if you accompanied me to dinner, but I worry if I call it a date, it will end up like the last one.”
Alexus tilted her head. “You mean where you admitted that you liked me, and I admitted that I liked you back, and we kissed a lot and held hands. Then came back and you bent me-“
“OKAY! I GET IT!” Face as red as the curtains, Demetri shook his head. “I guess I didn’t think about those parts.”
Alexus wrapped her arms around his waist. “Well, maybe you should. It was the best date I’d ever been on.”
Backing out of her arms, Demetri rubbed the back of his neck. “Alexus, would you like to accompany me on a date tonight to dinner?”
Why does he keep doing that?
He’d been helpful and caring over the last few weeks, but whenever she tried to show him affection, he dodged her like a bullet. Still, he was asking her on a date, and she was excited. Jumping up and down, she agreed.
“Absolutely.”
