Chapter 53 Chapter 53
Chapter 53 Chapter 53
Liora's POV
I went about my day as I normally would.
The whole of Velaryth was buzzing with news of my return.
It was not particularly strange when I did not show up for days, but three weeks?
There were already several stories.
I was just abusing my status…
I was punished for being useless…
My personal favorite, I eloped…
So many silly stories.
But the most annoying one and unfortunately, the most popular one, was people assuming I went off the grid due to the embarrassment of losing to the anonymous dude I last fought with.
That freaking assassin was messing with my life in all aspects.
Ugh!
I gritted my teeth in anger as I made my way to the library, my head racing with a million thoughts.
I was well aware of the presence of the people following me. Not so discreet.
Or maybe I was the overly observant one.
The plan Kysen had rang through my head.
He had sent it through our drakyns as usual, and it was kind of brilliant. Not like I would ever tell him that.
There was a girl in Velaryth who possessed the power to make herself invisible.
Well, she was not the only one that possessed that power, but she was the easiest to use in this situation.
Because no matter how visible she was, she was basically invisible.
She existed, yes, but she moved alone.
I mean, I moved alone too, but at least, I got bullied. I was still known in some way.
She was not.
No one even knew her name. She was literally called ‘the invisible girl’.
Well, it turns out someone does know her name.
Aurora.
According to Kysen.
And they were… friends-ish.
But secretly.
Now, one unique thing that people did not know about Aurora’s power was that she could turn anything she touched invisible too, if she wanted to.
No one else besides Kysen, and well, now, me, knew about it.
The way this one little secret could boost her entire social status…
But apparently, she liked things as they were and that was admirable in a way.
Now, back to the plan.
It was simple.
She was going to touch me, and make me invisible.
The tricky part was that the invisibility only lasted for ten minutes, so I had to be as fast as possible.
I eyed the corner where she was most likely waiting behind and slowed down.
Here we go.
Out of the blue, I used my speed and raced, not stopping until I turned the corner.
As soon as I stopped, my eyes made contact with brown, doe ones.
I gave her a grateful look and she nodded briefly as she nudged me slightly, nodding when she was done.
I blinked.
I did not feel invisible. Wait, what was it supposed to look like?
I wanted to ask but she was gone. Basically disappeared into thin air.
I sighed as I stared at my hands. I looked the same.
Three men rounded the corner, completely out of breath and I turned to them.
They looked panicked.
“Where is she?!” They asked while looking right at where I stood.
A wide grin laced my lips.
It worked!
Okay, ten minutes, Liora.
I inhaled sharply, before using my speed again, heading straight for our underground spot in the library, where Kysen was likely already waiting for me.
In record time, I breezed into the library, my speed leaving a gust of wind behind.
I could almost see the confusion on Joan's face as a blast of wind but her, but I didn't stop.
I couldn't.
I had to be in before I was out of time.
I didn't stop until I was sure the door to the secret chambers was locked behind me.
Only then did I let out the breath I did not know I was holding.
I nearly collapsed against the wall.
My speed put out the lights that Kysen had set up for me.
I sighed as I stared down the dark, narrow and cold staircase that seemed to spiral into nothingness.
I really dreaded the dark.
I wanted to shout out for Kysen…
But I didn't.
Instead, I swallowed my fear and traced my way down the stairs, my hands tracing the walls as I picked my steps one by one.
I had been down the very stairs several times, yet my throat felt like it was about to close up the next minute.
Come on, Liora.
Don't be a coward.
Finally, I made it down.
I let out a sigh of relief as my eyes finally saw light again.
The moment I saw Kysen, I froze.
He was on high alert.
He looked around warily.
“Liora?” He called for me.
He must have heard me sigh.
I almost laughed. It was quite the sight.
For a second there, I forgot he couldn't see me.
I was about to respond when I decided to just keep quiet.
He frowned, a little crease forming between his brows.
How cute.
He walked towards where I stood, and I tiptoed to the side, as quietly as I possibly could.
I was now by the table, watching him in amusement.
Obviously confused, he tilted his head to the side and gods, it was the cutest thing ever.
“Liora, I know you're in here” he said, suddenly turning around.
I almost scoffed. I was so sure he didn't know whether I really was there or not. He was clearly bluffing.
I had to cover my mouth with my palm to prevent myself from laughing out loud.
But that ended quickly. I froze in place as I watched him turn slowly and his eyes focus right on me.
Wait, did the invisibility wear off?
I narrowed my eyes as he walked towards me. Was he just winging it?
My head tilted to the side in confusion as he began sniffing the air.
Was this what the Dravon heir did in his free time? I eyed him cautiously, giving him a weird look.
He was almost in front of me when I decided to move again.
I stepped to the side and slowly moved backwards, till my back hit the wall.
Now, imagine my surprise when he stopped sniffing, hummed thoughtfully, before he started sniffing again!
No. It couldn't be.
He was… sniffing me?
That's nuts, Liora. No way that’s actually true.
But it was.
He sniffed again, and actually followed the path that led to where I stood.
I was too shocked to move. Was this even real?
Again, it was.
I almost did not believe it until he completely had me cornered and all up in my space.
I could not breathe, even with being fully aware that he knew I was there.
I turned my head and met his gaze. Wrong move. Those damn eyes.
“Someone does not care about language again” Vyrmoth said, and I blissfully ignored him, too distracted to even realize I had cussed.
